Till you get it tuned on a co machine,it'd be hard to deduce the issue bro.Otherwise, like we spoke of,try reading the spark plug, but for that you'd have to use a new stock plug NGK R CR7E.

Hey guys, i am vry sick from the milege my bike is giving....
Its a Fiero F2, with RTR 180 chain sprocket set.. front tyres are default, rear ones are 100/100 profile. I am just getting 35-38 kmpl.. Prices of petrol are 84.11Rs in pune... so very very uneconomical.... i get only a range of 200-220kms in 500Rs of fuel...

If i cannot solve this problem, then i might have to sell it and buy a new 100cc-125cc bike....

      So plz help me out...

        Guys,

What tyre pressures does the Fiero Manual state for the front and rear. I have mis-placed mine, can anyone check it.

You have answered yourself Get the fat-ass tyre removed(nothing against wide ,full rears,as long as they are of the feminine kind ) and go for the stock. Get the stock gearing as well,if you can manage it,then 14/39 would be even better! and then get her tuned on a co machine. If you're still not happy then go for either the suzuki hayate,it's really a good bike,or any other 110's.

            @Bprags

            Tyre pressure : Front 1.75 kg/cm*2 (24 psi)
            Rear 2.25 kg/cm*2(32 psi)

Spark plug : NGK R CR7E Cleaning at every 3k and replacement after every 12k.
            Gap : 0.6 to 0.8mm

            Compression : 9.4:1

As specified by the manual, when the engine's cold, the starting procedure is to depress the clutch lever and to kick the bike 4 to 5 times before turning on the ignition. This is to ensure that the oil gets circulated to GB,clutch and the engine. When the engine's warm, the throttle is to be held open 1/8, or 1/4 while kick starting it.

            Chain slack 25 to 35mm.

Oil filter is to be changed at every oil change, which is 3k.

Valve and spark plug clearance were adjusted yesterday. The popping has reduced considerably, but RPM fluctuation&jerking issue remains when the engine is hot.
The mech said the carb setting was perfect (I think he's also scared to tune it) but the valves didn't set properly coz I ripped it after they were fit. I shoulda run it in like a new bike supposedly.
I still wanna get the carb tuned on a CO machine before concluding, but I really donno whether I'll be able to do it here.
Maybe I need to wait till the bike (with me) moves to Bangalore!

It was 17th May 2001, when I brought her home. 12 years and 6 months, this is the second speedo, the original speedo got damaged in an accident I had in 2003, the old one has done around 22K. In between the speedo wasnt working for close to 10K, on in all she must have done around 1.32 lakh kms.

Took her out for a ride today, I was surprised how well she performed on the highway smooth and peppy.

Fiero/RTR engines are high revving engines, with bullet-proof reliability! These are built to take abuse all day long!

Adventurer this link will ,to an extent show what it's capable of outside the racetracks and rally scene. The common factor between all your engine failures according to me is the K&N.
About the tyre air pressure, nothing's mentioned about whether it's for solo,or with a pillion.

                      Wow!

Thanx to all the contributing members in this priceless thread. I was looking to upgrade my 2001 model Suzuki Fiero and i think I have hit the right place.

A brief history about my bike :

My bike has done more than 2 Lakh kilometers in past 12 years. Bike is mostly in stock condition except for few minor upgrades like round dome, K&N Filter, Iridium spark plug etc.

I had bought this bike during my college days in Bangalore. I took the bike later to Mumbai for 2 years and finally it is still with me in Chandigarh since last four years.

The bike has never disapointed me all the years. Now its the time to pay back and make the machine more powerful and rule the streets.

Looking for valuable suggestion from senior member on how to go ahead for the upgrade.

Lets bring the thread back to life again.

Gixxer anna, Thanx for responding ! Happy to see that the fiero bug is still alive inside u. I was checking the old posts in this thread and I could see u active right from initial pages to the last page consistently.
About my bike, Its a 2001 model bike is very much in stock condition till now. The bike had lost its pick up and smoke was coming out from silencer. So, the ring piston was changed at 1.2lac kms in 2008 at a tvs service center. Other minor changes are a K &N filter (2008) and NGK irridium spark lug. I have removed the fiero dome & tachometer as it was giving lot of vibration sound and put a round Pulsar dome. The bike is running fine till date and not lost the charm of typical Fiero.

What I want from the bike now?

                          - Was looking to upgrade it to 180cc to increase the power band. I checked with my mechanic for rtr 180cc set up in Fiero and found out that these things are not common in Chandigarh (unlike Bangalore). The lathe work will not be satisfactory as they are not experienced to do all this stuffs. This is the first obstruction in my way. Further, when I read about the pre ignition issue with Nano technology's 180cc set up ( arround page 80) , which has further made me worried on this plan.
I am happy with my short and mid range but I want to better my long range and want to increase the top speed by another 20 km/hr. Gixxer anna, kindly advise a minimum invasive surgery ( one which will not require lathe work ) and help me to increase my long range.

                          - some cosmetic modification like lower and long handle bar like FZ. For this, I want to decrease the height of seat andmove the foot rest a little back. Not sure how to go ahead for this.
-upjetting if this will help to get the extra top end that i want.

                          - Mono shock if it has any significant difference in handling and finally paint job.

Hope to hear from u on all thse points soon.

Thanks bro .Since your bike's in good condition,i'd advise you to go for cosmetic changes for now, like you've rightly decided. Go for the stock air-filter and keep the stock jetting as it is. If your bike does come to bore, then go for the stock fiero bore kit and keep her mechanically stock. That's because,if there's no knowledgeable mechs around ,then even a bolt-on job of going for RTR head and bore kit will not be advisable.Keep her stock and enjoy the performance. Handle etc ,you can choose any which suits you.

Gixie sir, I agree with u. But i am running the stock engine since more than a decade. Its a high time to give some xtra bhp to my bike. Yesterday, I watched a local drag event (organised by fmsci) and met some racers who are into this mod job. Here, it is mostly about pulsars, impulse, r15, rx, shogun etc. But nobody has raced a fiero here and one of the guy tried my bike and was quite impressed with Fiero. He even asked me if I am looking to sell it. The bug is biting me again now
All i want is to gain enough knowledge at least to tell the mechanic what needs to be done.
