• Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155

Hello everyone,

Couldn't locate the 'Introduce yourself' thread by a keyword search -- so thought would start from here.

My name is Sasank- aged 26 and currently based out of Gurgaon. I am recruitment consultant by profession and true wanderer by heart.

Have been following this thread pretty closely and finally got convinced to join xBHP. The posts are informative, detailed (which I am very particular about) and so are the advises.

I became a proud owner of Gixxer (black colored) on 8th Feb, 2015 -- the odometer reads somewhere around 1800+ kms now. Have extensively ridden my father's Rajdoot (1968 manufactured) and Pulsar 180 UG III.

Sharing my experience till date with Gixxer:

1. Light, nimble and flick-able motorcycle with a good stance for city rides

2. The engine is responsive, vibration free with good low end and mid range torque but the top end torque is a bit let down. Considering it is a 150cc motorcycle I am not bothered about the top speed much rather the speed at which my mill is comfortable cruising through out the day i.e 60 - 65 km/h.

3. The highway riding experience is average as cross winds makes the bike unstable at times. I stand 5 ft 10 inch tall and weight around 90+ kg -- so, for someone who is between 60-70 kgs things would be a bit tipsy (please correct me if I am wrong). I did a 200 kms run without a stop with no sign stiff back (other than numb finger and toe which is common for naked bikes).

4. Bought Motul chain clean and lube for INR 1000 from Ashish Bike Center (near Gurgaon Bus stand) as conditions here is dusty. I prefer cleaning/lubricating after every 700 kms.

5. My bike is Jan'2015 manufactured -- the paint from the engine peeled-off. Will get that fixed in next servicing.

Not planning to buy engine oil from outside until free servicing gets over. Will switch to Motul V300 10W40 (factory line) if I have to.

Hoping to be active here and be a part of meaningful discussion.

Thanks, gentlemen.

Use kerosene and tooth brush to clean the chain or the expensive chain clean spray. Use motul chain lube easily available at yamaha SVCs.

I am concerned as I am now not sure how to handle this situation.

Also Bangalore members, could somebody advise where can I find OKS 451 or Tribocor TC 40 in North or East Bangalore? I am having a hard time find these.
Not advised as it will attract lot of dirt. Get it cleaned again and use Motul chain lube.

mate, I know the chain cleaning process and I already have the 3M chain cleaner with me. Just that Bangalore is battered with random rains for the past few weeks, my bike is in a bit of a mess. I thought I would quickly get the chain cleaned for now and wash up the bike later when the rain stops.

I feel Motul is expensive and would prefer using the other alternatives which I am having trouble finding here in my local market. My only query for now is will using grease on the bike chain(temporarily) harm the O rings?

raintree, as far as i know, based on my research, nothing is gonna happen in a short period of time, grease is an excellent lubricant. Things go bad only when dirt and sand get into it and forms a fine mixture. Then it will work as a sandpaper. [emoji1]

Cheers !

You can use grease but the only drawback in grease is that it'll not penetrate into the O rings. Just leave the grease in chain & in addition to that apply less amount of new or old engine oil to it. But this is temporary bcoz oil will attract dust.

Life is full of irony and something pulls back to me to the lovely Forum back again.
Need to buy a Commuter Bike and Gixxer would be my choice primarily since the SVC is near my place.

Would be daily to & fro of 35-40 kms in pathetic Bangalore traffic.
Waiting to sell my Two month old Suzuki Swish scooter by this weekend and then would be ready to go.

Can any of the good Samaritans help me on the Pros & Cons based on user & ownership experience?
Also the quick mods that need to be done and the legality of the same.
From my personal front would prefer a Headlight change & AutoCop Remote.

Other suggestions are welcome. Also see some Old Folks Divya & Mohsin giving their insights as well.

Thanks Biker Buddies.

Look who is back! Woo hoo!!!
Do you crave for dhoom bikes? Gixxer SF, else Gixxer Naked.

I'm not recommending any other bike because you're my daddy and you'd have arrived at the Zuki keeping worthy pointers in mind.
Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Before I have even got it in my stable you have started your usual banter.
Has to be the Gixxer naked and had my experience with Suzuki Swish in Chennai and the newer one in Bangalore as well.
Also had a Test Ride and felt quite good while On Road is approx 91,000 INR.

Honestly tell me do we have any other option of other Bikes below One lac.
Need to gulp the Bangalore craters effectively with large tyres and flickable as well.
Selling my TWO month old scooter for this only.

More so with my family Four Wheeler is coming for sure and hence do not want to go overboard.
And since you know me personally something bigger 2W will definitely come in the long run

For moon like craters, Impulse would do, but dismal sales and poor spares inventory in BLR (speaking w.r.t Hero), you better stick to Gixxer. In fact faired one is just that, extra plastic. Get whatever, I'm coming in for a long test ride.

If you need to tackle Moon Craters then beware of the ground clearance of the Gixxer. It has perhaps the lowest ground clearance amongst the 150cc class. Pot holes wouldn't actually trouble much but road humps surely will. Get a test ride on the roads you need to tackle every day, you will get a better idea. Nonetheless Gixxer is the best 2W in its class.

From what i know, Grease is not recommended for O-ring chains. Chain lubes specifically meant for O-rings (like OKS/Motul/etc.) are recommended.

May be a quick soution as of now but not advised as its raining frequently at bangalore and all dust will get accumulated. You can order Tribocor duo(cleaner and lube) from ebay and would get in 4 days. I ordered last weekend and it got delivered in mumbai yesterday. it was couriered from somewhere in karnataka. you may get it faster I suppose.

One thing I noticed is ZMR is having less Ground Clearance than Gixxer.
And since I used ZMR extensively and moved to scooters later on for practicality.
Guess things would be manageable in Gixxer but again these are perspective and varies from person to person.
