Gixxer rear disc or drum brakes ?
I am 5'8 , 35 year old IT professional from Chennai
I have driven the safer Hero honda CD-Deluxe for the last 15 years.
Partly I did not have much money to spend on bikes and was more commuter oriented.
Now I wanted to buy something faster.
I have shortlisted Gixxer but not sure whether I should go for the Rear disk model
or drum brakes.
I am going to be driving 90 % within city limits and occasional drive down the ECR.
What do you guys suggest.
I understand there has been issues with the rear brakes does it justify the extra premium
???

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
10w40 works fine for Gixxer. No Idea about 20W50 though :/Originally posted by srinath2494 View PostPlanning for some new accessories - A brand new helmet and a jacket. OMG it's so chill these days to take the bike out in the mornings and ride against wind.
Also, it's time for a service and I am planning to go with Motul 7100 20W50 engine oil. Is this oil good for gixxer? because I have seen pulsar 220 users using it.
I already feel old typing this :| haha anyway! Hope you all are enjoying your ride!

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
I have tried oils with viscosities like 5w40(Shell Helix Ultra, Total Quatrz 9000), 10w30(Honda Throttle), 15w40(Mobil Delvac 1400), 10w40(Shell Advance 4T Ultra, Mobil mineral, ELF Roadstar, Shell Helix HX7, Total Quartz 7000), 20w40(Gulf pride 4T), 10w50(Elf Tech 4T)Originally posted by srinath2494 View PostThanks, I'll see if someone's using it and go ahead buy it depending on their feedback.
and all I can say is 10w40 is the best viscosity grade (recommended by Suzuki).

I've been riding a rear drum Gixxer since March 2015 with no issues till date. Take a test ride of both versions & decide. Opinion from current owners of rear disk version should help further.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Hi Guys,
Just faced a very Critical issue. While going down the flyover I observed complete loss of acceleration. Upon getting off the bike I couldn't kick start the bike. It felt the lever was out of it's place. Self start would make the shrieking noise but the engine won't start. I dragged the bike all the way from Sector 62, Noida to ShriShakti Suzuki, Jagatpuri but alas, it being Tuesday, could not find the Service guys. I am totally worried and surprised as how come this thing happened. It has been just 14 months from purchase and all services were done at the regular intervals. I am more of a calm rider and have touched max of 97 kmph and that too only twice in this 14 months of my ownership. I would like to get a opinion from this strong community as to what could have been the damage or what to expect tomorrow as I take it back to the Suzuki guys. Awaiting eagerly for a reply!

If you felt like the engine is lacking compression when you tried the kick start, then it could be due to a sticky valves, typically seen in Honda/Hero bikes.Originally posted by urahara.kisuke View PostHi Guys,

You could've tried putting the bike in 2nd gear, roll the bike on a slope and slightly release the clutch. Sometimes this works.
Another solution is to remove the plug and pour couple of drops of 2T oil through the plug hole.
I can't confirm if this is your problem though. So, let us wait for the findings of ASC!

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
nd & 3rd is not your case since they are expected to occur only after 50-80k kms, the only reason is leaky valves.Originally posted by urahara.kisuke View PostHi Guys,

As Satson rightly said above, pouring few drops of oil thru the spark plug hole might solve the issue temporarily, but only in case the loss of compression is due to worn out piston rings/cylinder wall. But this is to be used for diagnosis purposes only.
For 1st time I faced this issue, I called Suzuki on road assistance & the technician could manage to start the bike & took it to ASC. Finally they adjusted the valves & the issue was sorted.
Do ask your ASC what your issue was & do let us know.

I have rode drum version for past 1.5 yr City + highway (600km a day) didn't face issue in Braking if you manage properly by applying Front disc in sync. I'm too waiting for review from someone using rear disc version.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
any semi-synthetic oil is ideal for the Gixxer. I've heard that even the Motul 7100 is an overkill for the Gixxer(as the Gixxer's engine is not an highspeed/highrev unit like the R15, Duke/RC etc). Don't know if anyone used the Motul 300V and experienced better overall performance/efficiency from the engine.Originally posted by presidency View PostDid anyone use motul 300v 10w40 factory line fully synthetic oil for gixxer?
I heard many used this n experienced more smoothness of engine n gear shifts.....good performance n mileage, but lil costly 1+kMy Motorcycles :-
