Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
I would say visit a store and try on some gloves, but for 3k don't buy anything that doesn't have leather. Full gauntlet or short is your decision.. I have seen short cuff gloves come off during a crash. Full gauntlets would just stick to your palm but might be a pain in summer(my gloves don't have any vents) but if you're mostly doing freeway riding, they will be good. But do try on the glove before buying and buy a slightly tighter glove because the glove will have a break-in period and will get looser after that period. Try them on and get a neat fit gloves.Originally posted by mehernosh View Post

KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Like seriously??Originally posted by mehernosh View PostJust hope I get 2016 RC 390 with headlight switches. I would rather keep my headlight off during the day instead of having it on and people asking me to switch off my headlights. Will let y'all know this Thursday or Friday.
You want to go against the safety feature and government rule because you don't want people showing you hand gesture that your headlight is on? [emoji52]
What's a race kit?Originally posted by mehernosh View PostI'm not planning to get racing kit anytime soon as I might drive mostly on ECR and OMR (free roads on the outskirts with minimal traffic except during office hours). Do you think I should still get full gauntlet or short cuffs? Can you suggest any short cuff leather gloves under 3k? Sorry for going OT mods will post on accessories thread after this.
At first, i thought KTM has launched something like the Daytona kit, Yamaha did for R15.
Imagine you're riding in 2km range in your home at low speed.. Any fall would lead random injuries. It does not give you any assurance of not hurting your wrist and upper part.
Half glove = easy to wear
Full gauntlet = takes double time to wear than short glove, double safe as compared to short glove.
On December 8,2015.Originally posted by mehernosh View PostI get what you're trying to say but I'm a disciplined rider and drive slowly on city roads and I don't think I've crossed more than 80 even at night on well lit roads. That is why my parents have agreed to get the bike for me even though I'm only 20 because they know I don't drive rash unlike my brother who'll just turn 18, so we'll most likely get bullet 500cc for him and I'll have a quarter liter sports bike and a cruiser.
I was doing around 70kmph and applied brake to get low. Other guy on his hero Honda splendour appeared from a wrong side without headlight on a road that has no streetlight and hit me from front.
His damage = a broken headlight, dislocated shoulder, a broken helmet and forehead swelling:
My damage = a broken GoPro mount on helmet and bike repair estimate was 1.13Lac!
Guess where does the sane rider part goes now?
RC390 is a RaceBike or TrackBike but not a SportsBike.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Okay an important query for me and maybe for others too.
I had a Pulsar220 earlier and had no issues while being ridden during Holi time.
Because next day after a wash and polish, all colours gone and it's still Black.
Last Holi I had RC390 but it was Mumbai.
This year it's Delhi.. It will be cats & dogs of colours right from 8am to mid day.
Do I have to park bike to keep it safe from colours or I can ride it during Holi while enjoying and there will be no permanent patch later on??
I don't want those colour patches. Anyone had his experience from last Holi.. Please shred some help here!!!First I was Scared But then We Made a Deal

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
I think that they've implemented it based on European norms not Indian safety feature. Nevertheless I do agree it's safer but I'd prefer one with the headlight switchOriginally posted by Sird View PostLike seriously??

I meant racking apparels. This is my first bike so I'm not exactly familiar with the correct names but sure you can make fun of me if it makes you feel better about yourself.Originally posted by Sird View PostWhat's a race kit?

I'm going with short cuffs for now because my dad's friend has an extra pair might buy full gauntlet later.
Sorry to hear that but that is something that could happen to anyone whether the person is riding an RC or an Aviator.Originally posted by Sird View PostOn December 8,2015.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
bro even Indian Govt. has made move to make daylight runnin headlights mandatory. Upcoming bikes should have this feature as a must so all that hand signalling and weird looks will fade off in few months.Originally posted by mehernosh View PostI think that they've implemented it based on European norms not Indian safety feature. Nowhere did he make fun of you. He's advising you full gauntlet for your own protection but in the end it's your call.
And about the accident happening to anyone is exactly the reason he asked you to go for best protection possible ie the full gauntlets.
And there's no such thing as racing apparel, the more protection you wear the better, whether it's on the street or the track.
I sincerely hope you are going to get at least a riding jacket which qualifies as bare minimum on high powered bikes.

Now Indian government has also made it compulsory for the 2-wheels to have a dedicated DRL. Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
I did not know about that. I saw a video about the 2016 model and the reviewer said the always on headlight is because of European norms. Do you mean Daylight running lamps or headlights? I don't think I'll be able to drive in the city in such humid conditions with a full gauntlet so I will buy a jacket and full gauntlet gloves for weekend getaways.Originally posted by paradoxx View PostNowhere did he make fun of you. The question about racing kit was a genuine query from his side.

You're right the government has made it mandatory from April 2017 but KTM are implementing it from this year.Originally posted by Sird View PostNow Indian government has also made it compulsory for the 2-wheels to have a dedicated DRL. (Check google or xBhp news)

Alright man. I thought you mere making fun of me since I'm a novice/noob and this is my first bike.
And to be honest, this is my opinion but I really don't think we need always on headlights in India. I can understand for Europe because of daylight savings and fog but I live in Chennai and I really don't think always on headlight will make that much of a difference.Last edited by mehernosh; 03-22-2016, 01:36 PM.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
once you get the rhs fairing off, you need a regular spanner/socket (i think its a 10mm) to remove the drain bolt that on the rhs bottom. download the workshop manual for reference.Originally posted by SpeedyKol View PostPlz suggest tools and things required for coolant change. Just got delivery of engine ice.wanna do it myself tomorrow. Gotta rush to office now.
do it on a cold engine.
1. open drain plug nut, drain coolant
2. open radiator cap and expansion tank (plastic one near petrol tank) and leave it for a couple of minutes for it drain. (tilt bike towards right to make sure you get as much as coolant out)
now at this point you can simply close the coolant drain plug and refill radiator with the coolant of choice and once radiator is full, top up the expansion tank.
Go for a ride and let the fan come on.. and then wait for the engine to cool down and check the level in expansion tank.. if its below min, top it up to between min-max
Otherwise you can flush the radiator with water (using a hose) and let the water run clear thru the drain hole, and then proceed with the step i mentioned above.
there are other more time consuming lengthy flush-drain-clean procedures, but i don't think that's necessary since yours is a relatively new bike.

2. Same goes for the people ahead you, they can see you clearly in RVM
3. Jaywalkers who run blindly to cross road can see you coming.
4. An always on headlight is like a horn, with a benefit of no irritating beep sound.
5. Sometimes even your honking will not save you but your headlight will.
6. So many other points.First I was Scared But then We Made a Deal

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Accidents happen when you least expect. The aim is to not say "it'll not make much of a difference" the aim is to say, the other party can make a difference in both your lives, you got the point.Originally posted by holy View Post

Flashy objects always catch the eye, remember, for a car, van, SUV anything that has four or more than four wheels, their drivers, 90% of the time you're always in a blind spot, from their perspective, it's not their fault, closed space defines claustrophobic behavior, you, me, anyone who drives a car will know that. Why do ambulances have flashing red/blue lights, why are their headlights flashing, IT IS to attract the attention of the driver in front, so that the driver in the front can see the ambulance back to him from long distances, making the right move for him to pass, earlier instead of at the last moment. Horns are effective, but remember LIGHT TRAVELS FASTER THAN SOUND, basic old school principle, but saves your life.
This is a lengthy subject on which I can go on and on, but remember, safety isn't a one person treaty, it's a multi functional law.
Cheers!

The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
