It's normal. Its the left over fuel getting ignited. I love that sound!

I just gave the bike for this today, he insisted that it was just a seepage, due to a connecting wire running across that length of the bike, so not sure what he's going to do really. Any suggestion?

      Thanks!

Hey guys, if someone could give me a very quick reply, how much is the life span of the chain sprocket? And what causes it to wear out?
I got a call saying chain sprocket is worn out, and its just been 7.3k kms, which I think is really soon, could someone confirm ASAP as I'm going to SVC shortly.
        Thanks!

Hi. The chain set usually does not get worn off within 10,000km. Mine lasted till 13,000km. However, the following might reduce the life :

          1. Running the chain without lubrication for a long time.
          2. Rapid acceleration and decelaration.
          3. Running the chain either too loose or too tight.

Note : It could also be a defective sprocket! That is why it wore off so quickly.

7.3k is too less of a mileage for the chain-sprockets to give up unless you have been neglecting maintenance. And I assume you are using the bike normally, the chain-sprocket will easily last at-least 15k km if you keep it lubed every 1000km and not run it too tight.
The svc might try to swap parts to make some money, and to avoid such situations, i never leave the bike out of my sight during repairs.

I wanted to be there too, but I have exams and such and I wasn't able to. I have been mostly getting it lubed at SVC every 800-900 kms generally.
I did tell them I want my old parts back, which isn't really any verification as they could give me any old part. I guess I'll just avoid this SVC in future. Any other way I might possible be able to verify this?
              Thanks!

Chain sprocket should last 15k+ with sedate riding and lubricating after every 300-400 kms. Avoid leaving bike @ svc as much as possible.

The only way to 'verify' is for you to learn and be aware of the basic mechanical aspects of the bike. This awareness comes from experience (including pitfalls and rip offs) and educating yourself. You must always have a basic awareness of the condition of your bike in terms of parts such as tires, oil, battery, brake pads, chain-sprocket, filters, clutch plates.. these are some basic stuff that you should know (like their present condition, when were they last replaced/serviced, their approx life etc..).
Avoiding a svc is not going to help because most of them operate in a similar fashion. Am sure you will learn along the way and will be wiser in a couple of years . One way to learn is to watch and observe, so try to be around during repairs and services. Apart from that, read the owners manual and the workshop repair manual.. these two books have a wealth of information which one should acquire.

Yeah you're right, I've had it for 10 months now, and learnt a lot more.
I got back the parts from the SVC, and as far as I'm aware, the chain sprocket teeth should be worn out, which doesn't seem to be the case here. Posting detailed pics, if that is indeed the case where this was unnecessarily changed, while I can't do anything with the SVC, I'll at least write a strong mail to KTM and make sure that some action is taken (hopefully :P)

Please do advise. Also, if pics of the chain are needed, do let me know ASAP

                    Thanks a lot!

From the pics, those sprockets appear to be in normal condition for 7k km, and would probably easily last another 7k km at-least.
It would be difficult to ascertain the chain's condition from a pic (apart from the obvious), but looking at the sprocket and considering you ride normally with proper slack and chain lubing, I believe the chain should have also been in good shape.
Take a close look at the chain and see if you find any of the o-rings brittle/missing or damaged rollers/links.

They told me about the sprockets, not the chain, but I will check the chain once too.
So they pretty much scammed me with then right? And quite to my insult, this isn't even the first time, it's happened before with brake pads too[emoji85]

I'll inform KTM via mail, and let's hope I get a response or any action.

PS which is the email I can contact them at?
                        Thanks for the quick replies!

Unless am missing something in those pics, those sprockets look just fine to last at-least another 7k km.
Yeah, brake pads are another part where they scam customers.. it's common for svc's (not just bajaj/ktm) to do this since it's easy money.

Availed amazon's lightning deal and bought 2 cans of Motul 7100 20w50 engine oil. Whereas service centres fill 10w50. Would the difference really matter?

Just curious, how much did you pay for them? A couple of months ago, I was lucky to pick them at 589rs per can! Got 3 and saved around 650 bucks. The svc also uses 20w50 (depending on whats in stock), at-least the svc i go to has both 10w50 and 20w50. I've used both these grades and there isn't much of a difference. You can safely use it.
