But then I guess the wait makes this bike even more special as it is going to be my first bike ever. Does anyone know if this waiting period can be cut down in anyway?
Since the wait is the same everywhere, can anyone recommend a good dealership in Bangalore where customer service and satisfaction is a priority over sales/bookings?
    Thank You.

    Hi,

You can check out the electronic city showroom, If you are taking the bike on cash then they might give you the bike immediately within a day or two, for RC 200 there is a waiting period.
Guys in this showroom are Ok not the best I would say, but whenever I go with my concerns the guys do assist nicely.

there are differences in the indian manual (i have spotted a typo that leads to confusion on setting the rpm1/rpm2) compared to the version available online which is essentially the eu manual. Also if you notice the EU manual recommends a higher front tire pressure even though they use the same mrf/metz (depending on if its a 200/390).
Hoping someone will post a pic from the desi version of the manual.

Oh. I wasn't aware of that. But even if it's not a typo, wouldn't the Desi version of the bike have higher ground clearance, if at all?

according to ktm's website (both the indian and international/eu pages) the ground clearance mentioned is the same.
the confusion here is about what is mentioned in the indian version of the manual..which according to the guy who posted this question was supposedly 157mm!
nobody has posted a pic from the desi manual so far.. no point discussing unless we see some 'proof'

Did Ccose to 740KM on the RC390 last weekend, which sure was a piece of cake on it. I had a backpack which messed up my right shoulder, other than that - no issues what so ever.
Maybe for a 600km+ ride in a single day, the RC may not be a good option; but anything less than that I don't see a problem. The projectors were to die for during the night run on the highways.

PS : Got around ~40kmpl on one instance on the bike, then around 33-36 on subsequent fills

Thanks a lot guys. I made some calls yesterday and found that KTM Marathalli has a couple of RC 390s ready for delivery and even if they get sold out before I book, they have promised a delivery in 30 days at most. Since today is a Tuesday, it is considered inauspicious to make a booking by my mother. I have no say in that. So probably making a booking tomorrow if everything goes well. Will join the RC Club very soon.

Congrats buddy! Happy Riding. Please do post some photos of your "Orange". Cheers!!

Woah...tho miles one can put on a bike in a day differs fron person to person. ...this comes as auper news bro.... I dont think ill ever do more than 500kms a day on a bike anyway (dnt like just riding and riding all day) ... super news!

                          Any other observations/thoughts?

Will be doing ~600km in a day soon, will post comments after that :P

For the short run of approx 350km a day : The tank capacity is is adequate, just that you have to take your breaks accordingly. I was paranoid about it the whole time ( which is a problem, agreed) but never had a real problem finding a fuel station.
The main difference I felt is about the heat from the engine - in city traffic it pretty bad ( compared to other bikes) but is negligible on the open roads. Never had issues with road clearance - took it off the road(not "off-road") too, and never had a problem. Butter smooth highways, bad roads, and practically no roads - the RC handled it all and with ease. Touched 134 on the speed, and the bike barely showed signs of trouble. The only problem was the person riding it ( me) and his limits as a rider.
The suspension is really soft. Though I felt better on the current setup ( moved it to +2 on the harder setting), the folks riding behind me said that the suspension travel was a bit too much. Compared it to a D390 and RC suspension looks looked like a block of sponge. Might tighten up the suspension one level up.

The cons - Cleaning it. I just cannot get my head around the idea of having to clean this bike every week, but thats something I have to do. Lubing the chain - again a pain. I didn't have to do it during the tour because I had got it done at the service center. Will be taking it to the service center tomorrow to check on the brake liners, lube the chain and maybe change the suspension setting.
