I had installed K&N on my D390. Later converted back to stock as there are some warranty issues arising out of installation of aftermarket air filters. But I felt K&N to be better compared to stock. The engine note is deeper and the exhaust gets bit more bassier and also I felt the acceleration to be tad better. With stock I felt the bike to be a bit tied up under hard acceleration, I mean the lunge and the surge is more linear. Remember, engine warranty will be void as per KTM if you are installing non oem air filters. Hope my experience helps you out of your predicament.

Typical old racer - you wobble when you walk, not when you ride

Guys I am facing few issues here:

        1) I am getting a very low average of hardly 20 in city, In my consideration this is very low, though I have to accept that during my daily comute the traffic is quite high and I have to consistently keep changing the gears. so is this average of 20 ok given the conditions or i should be getting a bit more?

        2) Yesterday I was trying to lube the chain and dam its difficult without the centre stand, i tried to put the bike in such a position that I can tilt it on the stand and my friend could keep spraying the lube, but to my surprise the bike refused to start when i had tilted it, but then I removed the stand and the bike started immediately I know that RC starts even with the stand down but couldnt understand why the bike didnt start when I tilted it....any body has any Idea, please help me here...

I'm assuming the bike is new and is still in the run-in period. The mileage you are getting currently in the severe traffic conditions in Bangalore is actually pretty decent. It will improve in a few days and after the first service you'll probably get around 25. The guys in the showroom claim 20-25 in the city and people get that much. In some cases people are getting 30+ and some people get around 15-17 also. It'll improve after the 1st service for sure as long as you ride well in the run-in period. Cheers!

well actually I have finished my first service also and clocked more than 1500 KM, the average of 20 which I am getting is the same before and after the service, i was thinking i should be getting atleast 23-25KMpl.

I think RC has tilt sensor to shut off engine when it detects fall. Could be one possible reason for the bike not starting. Also, bike does indeed start even with side stand down but only when in neutral. If slotted into gear with stand down, engine shuts off.

Has anybody noticed the difference between RC brake lines and Duke brake lines? Duke ones are definitely steel braided and even appear so. But the RC ones appear to have plastic cladding. When I checked this on mine, I was actually puzzled and then compared with other in showroom and all RCs have plastic-clad lines.

Is there steel braiding for RC brake lines or not??

Duke 200 uses steel braided lines but duke 390 uses fibre coated steel braided lines. Its just added protection. RC and dukes have the same brake lines.

I was startled by the same when I went to book mine
I felt the pipe and it felt quite stout. It would have felt a bit flimsy had it been a rubber one I guess??
The showroom guy said that they're only covered in plastic, which I believe is true since a lot of reputed motorcycle review sites do claim that they are steel braided.
The front brake on the test RC that I rode pathetically lacked any bite whatsoever!!
Brakes on its rival Kawi 300 felt so good. Even the ones on pulsar 200NS!!
Hows your experience with the brakes??

I believe even Duke 390 has the steel braided lines. As in ones where one can see steel braids clearly. Also, RC lines appear to be thinner. I may be wrong or it may just be an illusion due to different colours.

Even mine don't have much of an initial bite. Also, mine has quite longer lever travel than any other RC i saw in showroom. I did inform the mechanic during first servicing and asked him to take a ride. However, he said that it is fine even after acknowledging that the travel is more.

But I didn't pursue the matter as I really believe in "don't fix if ain't broken". Also, during city ride front brakes are mild enough and in emergency, clutching lever hard brings bike to halt reassuringly.

Though I very much doubt anyone will like such brakes on track but I am not going there anytime soon!!

the ktm's all use steel braided lines.
why don't you get the pads scrubbed a little on a sandpaper.(i had to get this done a couple of days ago since they were making a noise after i did a 600km long ride and a very bad stretch of 14km dusty 'off' road.) Its a 10 min job and should improve the bite provided everything else is ok (you can also tie the lever down to the handle with a rope and leave it overnight, it might let the air in the hoses if any rise up to the reservoir). the only rc i rode was a 390 test ride bike and it did have good bite at the front brakes. And of course what one person might find good enough, might not be sufficient for another

Dukes have steel braided lines which are coated with a special fibre sheath for added protection against the elements. The RC has the same lines.

                                ok i have an update.
bike is pretty smooth though while downshifting i hear a vibration i guess frm the front number plate holder at some particular rpm.
ok now the real issue- when i got the bike, it was like i opened the throttle for 2 secs and the car before me was 20 meters behind.
now it does not seem like it!
is it a case of me got adjusted to the acceleration or there can be some real problem crop up?
ps- i know its a noob question but please somebody help!
