• Run-in

Hello.well I posted the same before but I guess its deleted don't know why....

Anyways I got a Pulsar200AS.its 800 kms now.so for the 1st 480 kms I didn't cross 4k rpm.bike is good now.changed engine oil at 480 kms.however m following the motorman way of run-in.I am going at 5k rps and ocfassionaly for 30 sec I reach 70-80 speed and then stop d bike to cool it down.so am I doing the correct thing.is this the eaybits meant to running.I don't want to follow the manual because its a shitty solution they give.it only ends up doing piston glazing.also in every gear I go till 6000rpm.
Am I harming my bike or this is the correct way of doing it.
Experts please....

Approved and merged!

Funny how you call the standard and proven procedure as shitty and yet you're scared of your approach.
Anyways, you're not following motoman per se, just a 'little' more aggressive than the 'shitty' stuff you so hate. Motoman's on our mopeds would mean 7k+ in every gear right from the 1st km.
Don't worry, you're not harming your engine.

Quoting a senior rider:
1. Bursting to 120 Kmph for a minute & then dropping is quite different from riding at 120 Kmph for 15 min
2. Riding at 60 Kmph for about an hour is different from varying speeds for an hour between 40 Kmph to 100 Kmph

Ohk cool.I call it shitty coz its pretty much shitty.imagine a bike running for 55kms for 1000 kms.piston glazing just occurs.I call it shitty coz I followed up the same procedure on my previous bike and then pretty much f@#₹ed up my bike with low pickup and continuous problem.and I am not scared of following manual.its just that i think people in xbhp are having much more practical knowledge than manual otherwise u will see people reading manual more than in xbhp site.
BTW thanks a ton for your suggestion bro.so now I can just take it to 7k and then change it.but occasional speed burst for 1 minute is till how much speed for a Pulsar 200AS.and is it only on top gear?

Well I don't find the manual shitty at all. Ok, 55kmph may seem less but one should look at rpm instead of speed.
Increase the speed linearly without sudden bursts. That's it!
You can do 100kmph for a few sec too, just ensure you reach there linearly and not with sudden wide open throttles.

Thanks for your suggestion. I took it to 100 kmph for some 2 min and then stopped the bike for 5 minutes to let the engine cool.speed was very gradual

Yup, the idea is to expose the engine to all possible revs while up-shifting as well as down-shifting. All in a linear fashion.

If I am not wrong, doesn't the Motoman way of run-in require an oil change after 100 kms? According to him the method needs to be followed during the first 100 km and then, the oil change. It seems to me that you are mixing up the two methods.

Hey Guys, how is it going?

Clocked 200 odd kms on my AS. Enjoying the experience as of now. Had a few concerns :-

1. Strange rubbing, repetitive noise continues at low speeds! Driving me crazy! Goes away when I jam the rear brakes, though...
2. Trying braking hard to test the brakes. Rear fishtails like crazy! A strong "khat khat" sound comes when using the rear brake hard! HELP!
3. Strange generator like vibes felt when riding. Transferred through the entire bike. Repetitive & oh so weird! Suddenly started from yesterday.

The engine harshness continues at lower revs. Haven't gone upwards to 5.5k due to run-in period though.

1. Strange rubbing, repetitive noise continues at low speeds! Driving me crazy! Goes away when I jam the rear brakes, though...- It might be brake calipers touching the disk(Generally when there is dust inthe brake/Disc calipers). Also ride for 4-5 Kms in an empty road and try avoiding the Rear brake.THen check by touching the Disc plates if its hot.If its too hot then its touching it or else its just fine
2. Also the shock absorbers make a funny noise. Can you confirm if its not the one.
3. Trying braking hard to test the brakes. Rear fishtails like crazy! A strong "khat khat" sound comes when using the rear brake hard! HELP! -Bike will fishtail when you brake hard. But strange its making noises.I never heard any noise though. Please check with the ASC.and if they say its fine just blast those guys and tell you will escalate to Bajaj. They will fix if not replace it for you.
4. Strange generator like vibes felt when riding. Transferred through the entire bike. Repetitive & oh so weird! Suddenly started from yesterday.- Can you elaborate more please.Just need a little more clarity on it.

Hi xplod566, thanks for the input.

The weird rubbing sound only comes at low speeds, <15~20 kmph. Tried avoiding the rear brake method, the disk was NOT hot.

The khat khat sound only comes when using the rear brake hard! pretty weird! Are the callipers broken?

The generator type vibe feels like the entire vibe is vibrating at regular frequency. Not like a high rpm buzzing vibe which generally comes from revving the engine.
much like a electric genset! Started recently.
