Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
The Engine is harsh in the lower Revvs! Since you are at 200kms its a good idea to change the oil once now. 5.5K RPM is pretty good till may be about 500kms, after which you can occasionally rev it around 6.5K RPM. Many people recommend Bajaj oil, but I personally feel its crappy, esp the gear shifts feel rough when I am on Bajaj oil. If you want to experiment on something else, you can use the Motul 3000 mineral oil for the rest of the Run-in period.Originally posted by VaruaG View PostHey Guys, how is it going?
Clocked 200 odd kms on my AS. Enjoying the experience as of now. Had a few concerns :-
- Strange rubbing, repetitive noise continues at low speeds! Driving me crazy! Goes away when I jam the rear brakes, though...
- Trying braking hard to test the brakes. Rear fishtails like crazy!
A strong "khat khat" sound comes when using the rear brake hard! HELP!
- Strange generator like vibes felt when riding. Transferred through the entire bike. Repetitive & oh so weird! Suddenly started from yesterday.
The engine harshness continues at lower revs. Haven't gone upwards to 5.5k due to run-in period though.
Khat - Khat noise from the brakes - I can relate to that, I don't get the noise but there is a lousy feeling from the rear brakes. I braked hard and the wheels locked up but It felt like there was some play in the wheel, some weird movement. I need to check what it is, there might have been a sound too, but I couldn't hear it due to traffic noise. I suspect the bush that sits in the wheel hub, but its way too early for any wear. That said, I also had a complete failure of my rear brakes couple of weeks back, which the Svc fixed doing some jugaad. Need to get this sorted out in the 2nd service.

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
Bajaj oil is semi synthetic.motul is mineral. His bike is used to semi synthetic. Switching to mineral wouldn't be nice for his bike.try motul 3100 gold although Bajaj till 2000kms should be okay.Originally posted by anand.js View PostThe Engine is harsh in the lower Revvs! Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
my ns used to have a 'Tak' sound when using rear brake hard. It was because of loose axle nut. Tightening it solved my issue.Originally posted by VaruaG View PostHi @xplod566, thanks for the input.
The weird rubbing sound only comes at low speeds, <15~20 kmph. Tried avoiding the rear brake method, the disk was NOT hot.
The khat khat sound only comes when using the rear brake hard! pretty weird! Are the callipers broken?
The generator type vibe feels like the entire vibe is vibrating at regular frequency. Not like a high rpm buzzing vibe which generally comes from revving the engine.
much like a electric genset! Started recently.Last edited by Hari Krishnan R; 07-21-2015, 09:02 PM.

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
Damn this thread has so much of negativity on AS200. :/
Are the vibrations on AS200 so bad like the Enfields?
Are there any good things about the AS other than the Looks, styling, headlight?
Whats the current mileage/FE, you guys are receiving?Last edited by Sal; 07-22-2015, 03:38 AM.It's a lot like nuts and bolts - if the rider's nuts, the ride - bolts!

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
Aah, that sounds very possible, on my bike, it actually felt like a loose wheel/hub bush, it might actually be the axle nut. Will get it checked out tomo.Originally posted by Hari Krishnan R View Postmy ns used to have a 'Tak' sound when using rear brake hard. It was because of loose axle nut. Not really, there is nothing much to talk about the positives because it has been done already on the NS thread. Since there is nothing new apart from the Fairing and Fender, we have been discussing more or less the niggles we are facing which are mostly minor. Its a familiar engine, with well known +ves and -ves, and more or less a hassle free bike.Originally posted by Sal View PostDamn this thread has so much of negativity on AS200. :/

NO! there isnt any enfield like vibes, Enfield vibes increase with speed, and is so unbearable at the top end that the engine actually feels like it would explode! In the AS there are vibes at low RPMs which will eventually die down, but there is some harshness in the engine, which I hope will go away as we add more miles.
Good things : Of course, most significant is the looks, styling etc, apart from that I find it very comfortable in City, its perfect as a powerful commuter.
Mileage : Reserve - Reserve, got around 39kmpl, that was fully ridden in b-b traffic. Ideal mileage should be anywhere between 35-42 kmpl as reported by many.

I'll be using whatever mineral oil the Bajaj SVC has for the moment. Planning to switch to Motul 7100 after 3~4000 kms. Or is it too early to switch to a FS oil?Originally posted by xplod566 View PostOK cool.but put only Bajaj dtsi at least till 3000 kms.people in forum complain about it a lot but trust me its one of yje best.my experience .they might ask u to put motul but don't do it now.whatever happens or whatever he says just don't put any other oil except Bajaj.its an excellent engine oil to run in your bike.

Well that is news! Maybe the wash removes any excess grime, dirt, etc. from the moving parts. How to dust the bike in the mornings?Originally posted by xplod566 View PostAlso it might sound funny butbibhad pulsar 180 and I used to hear noises like yours.i took to service centre but those shitty guys say NO problem. Hyderabad is extremely dusty, and a wet wash is not possible every morning. I'm afraid just dry wiping will/has scratch the clearcoat!

anand.js thanks for the prompt reply! Haven't crossed 5.5k yet. 6th gear hardly sees any action!Originally posted by anand.js View PostThe Engine is harsh in the lower Revvs! The rear does feel out of place. today I identified that the strange rubbing noise comes when I depress the rear brake. specially in slow moving traffic.
My rear wheel felt wobbly on hard rear braking.
Loose Axle nut!Originally posted by Hari Krishnan R View Postmy ns used to have a 'Tak' sound when using rear brake hard. It was because of loose axle nut. Tightening it solved my issue.
I thought I'd get it checked in the first service. Is it dangerous?
Hey Sal, just as anand.js said, most of the great facts about the AS has already been discussed in 200ns thread, plus numerous positive ownership reviews.Originally posted by Sal View PostDamn this thread has so much of negativity on AS200. :/

Thanks for your inputs guys. Took a Test drive today, here is what i found :
I liked :
- Zeh rear brakes work like a charm ! Unlike my 220 where the rear brake was used just to decrease speed of 5 kmph. Found em to be better than the NS' brakes.
- The bike feels homely, it took me just seconds getting used to it and it didn't really feel heavy, inspite 3kgs heavier than my current steed, i could maneuver (pushing with foot) it easily inspite of having a pillion. Has a taller seat height, recommended for people with height of at least 5.6"
- Riding stance, Looks, pickup, lights, etc ...
- Excellent handling, i was doubtful about its handling in traffic as it has a longer wheelbase. The bike is easily flick able in traffic. I didn't find the turning radius to be so huge as it has been mentioned in this thread, my 220 has a bigger turning radius than the AS200.
I disliked:
- Vibrations once 4.5k rpm was crossed. They were all over the place - the handle bar, foot pegs, the seats.
- The fact that AS150 looks similar, and can be differentiated only by a Motorcycle enthusiast. Kids would be running around in their 150ASses trying to race the R15 kids.
Conclusion : I liked it. This bike is really fun, inspite of the vibes - well this was a TD bike!
P.S : The odometer of the TD bike had been disconnected. So i guess there would be one Bakra who will be sold this bike. Beware those who would be going for black AS'es! [emoji14]Last edited by Sal; 07-22-2015, 08:07 PM.It's a lot like nuts and bolts - if the rider's nuts, the ride - bolts!

I am investigating the rear brakes/wheels too, will let you know whatever I find out.Originally posted by VaruaG View Post@anand.js thanks for the prompt reply! Haven't crossed 5.5k yet. 6th gear hardly sees any action!

Unfortunately, I might have to sell the bike in a week or two since I would be traveling out of India for a couple of years atleast. If only I knew this a months back!Originally posted by Sal View PostThanks for your inputs guys. Took a Test drive today, here is what i found :
