Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
Hi guys,
I'm from Chennai, bought a Used AS200 2016 model 22k on ODO.
Previously a RTR160 owner 2013 model. It served me well on all of my long trips these years.
My requirements changed so bought a AS200. There is 3 major issues I'm facing now.
Tachometer:
It goes crazy once I open the throttle regardless of engine's actual RPM. It just goes haywire touches redline and after may be a second or so returns to actual RPM.
Engine Clatter:
Engine feels clattery though power is good no hiccups or so.
Just clattery when it gets heated up.
I feel it's the tappets (if there is anything else I need to check?)
Fairing rattles:
Is there any particular place I need to dampen using PU foam or double side tapes.
Thanks

Here's what I think of your problems :
First one might be some loose contacts on the wiring or short circuit
Second and third issues are normal and there is nothing to worry about it. When heated, metal expands and the tolerances inside the engine changes, so the sound will change.
Once it cools down, it will return to normal.
Solution : Replace engine components with forged aluminium or titanium parts.
Vibration : Plastic and metal contacts makes most of the vibration sounds.
Solution : Put rubber or fibre washers between every fairing screws.

I'm really concerned about the wiring issue. Did anyone face the same ?

I faced similar issue on my previous bike (RE Thunderbird 350).. It was due to one of the battery terminals getting damaged due to battery acid. So, I think current was not flowing properly. You can also cross check cables near battery terminals or is there any wiring related issue.

Have double checked the terminals regreased with petrojelly.Originally posted by rohitsalvi31 View PostHi Manoj,

Since it has a new battery terminals and bung connectors are pretty neat.
There is something going fishy with wiring.
Bike is torn apart
Checking all connectors for oxidation.
Will update....

Thanks for your reply... and what about the vibrations comparing with your previous RTR and how is your experience & braking performance while doing highway rides ...Originally posted by Manoj Sivaraman View Post40k

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
RTR vibes are higher, but it vibrates in much lower frequency.
AS on the other hand has tingling feel occasionally.
RTR's panels never make any hum or noise. But AS and RS is exactly the inverse.
AS Engine feels more refined and less stressed at higher speeds, I'm happy with it. But missing the low end punch of RTR.
A bit of low end punch would have been awesome (around 4k RPM). Power feels too linear. Top end whack is extremely satisfactory in AS.
Braking is good enough nothing to complain, Did a full DIY brake rebuild last week. Rear feel excessively sharp.Originally posted by Nanda SS View PostThanks for your reply... and what about the vibrations comparing with your previous RTR and how is your experience & braking performance while doing highway rides ...

Thanks for your reply ... What will be your choice for touring in & around South India ... I bet to choose RTR because of their Tank Range (or) mileage and ABS...Originally posted by Manoj Sivaraman View PostRTR vibes are higher, but it vibrates in much lower frequency.

Definitely AS200
More comfy ergonomics
More sure footed feel at higher speeds..Originally posted by Nanda SS View PostThanks for your reply ... What will be your choice for touring in & around South India ... I bet to choose RTR because of their Tank Range (or) mileage and ABS...

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
Hi Folks,
Had some time to debug the tachometer issue which I previously posted.
The culprit was the ignition coil (primary one, single output)
The previous owner had installed some other model coil or a counterfeit one.
Cleaned all connectors and bung terminals coated them with WD-40.
Did a whole wiring overhaul costed me as follows:
HT coil - 194/-
Zip ties - 60/-
Insulation tape - 30/-
Wire sleeve or jacket - 50/- (various sizes)
WD-40 - 90/-
Lot of patience...
It all started from diagnosis where my handy DMM helped me.
Where i checked Crank position sensor aka pulse coil.
Stator coil was also checked.
RR unit and battery health was also noted.
Also got some leads from a Service technician regarding key areas to check.
Tracked down the wires replaced them with same gauge automotive grade wires.
Since it is a pre owned vehicle I did the above said checkups.
This gave me a peace of mind as I got to know what's gone wrong and where.
Also other updates include:
Coolant reservoir tank replaced due to the plastic got brittle and foggy level indicator.
Also installed Minda K95 horns with separate wiring harness.
Both brakes got a minor overhaul (fluid flush and bleeding).
Front pads replaced and rear one got cleaned.
Lever feels much more responsive now.
Cone Set is yet to be replaced will soon post a DIY guide.
Wheel bearings and seals including. (Will do as I replace the tyres)
I just wanna register this update here as someone in the future will find this helpful.

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
Hello Brothers!
It's been a long time since my last post. It's been hectic and busy year. Finally got some time.
Yes, I still have her but there are some consistent issues I am unable to resolve because I am unable to find a reliable mechanic. Issues are primarily with the engine and spares.
Had the valves changed, cam and timing chain too but the problem with lose tappet remains. Unable to find the clutch assembly since it's not available. Changed the front tyre, stuck to FX1. Upgraded the rear monoshock to that of KTM Duke and man dies the ride feel soft and planted. I am going to change the brake lines to steel breaded one, had the battery changed to Amaron and the Armature short circuits in the middle of my ride home.
Oh I am sorry did not mention, I have moved to a town about 180 kms from Kolkata, it's Durgapur so I get the pleasure of riding her on the highway more often now. She use to top and 153 but since the engine issue, she now keeps at 139. Cruising is at about 120 comfortably.
After I had the valves changed, I noticed a lot of oil leaking from the cylinder and head joints, gotnit rectified but now it's the Magneto side spitting oil on high speeds. There is this clatter noise from the engine which wasn't there earlier, the idiot who worked on my bike used a hammer to take off the engine head. Yeah, I know, I felt it hard on my heart too, almost felt like dismantling his anatomy. Still looking for a mechanic though.
I ain't letting her go, maybe get a knew one soon. I am working on tuning the monoshock, it's too damn soft and won't do well on corners. The handling is still an issue, it is as if there is a particular point which is too damn precise to figure, exactly where to have everything about the front right. The cone set, fork oil, fitting and nut torque. You miss on any one and the handling goes haywire.
No problems with brakes though, apart from the front caliper. Had to rebore it twice till date, too much torque, one hard bump and it loses the winding. Had the seat made, ass still hurts, too much vibe mostly due to the issue with the tappet. Will have it sorted soon. Sorry for not being around though.
I am here now, let's keep talking. I am at 40k on the ODO guys. May need a new rear tyre, advise on the same would be helpful. I have the Michelin Street, stock size at the rear, may stick to it if not Timsum. Let me know all.
Ride Safe Brothers!!
