Now, for the mechanic, take word of mouth suggestions from someone who owns an RS in your locality and is well maintained. That means, the mechanic has the level of patience it take to take off and put back the fairing and takes his time to assess the problems. Visit the mechanic and ensure you know whats wrong with your beloved. Don't tell him though, just tell him the symptoms not the disease. Give him the keys and let him assess himself, hear what he says. Test him about his knowledge, ask him about engine oil grade you should use, anything apart from Motul 5100 and 7100 15w50 / 20w50 turn back and leave. Just hear and look how he handles other clients, what is he doing with the bikes in his garage. You would know if he is upto the task. [emoji4]

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
Thank you, I am overwhelmed reading your words. Well, this is my love, my antidepressant and the reason for my joy. One would always take efforts towards retaining and maintain someone or something they love. I just do the same. Moreover, it feels nice to solve problems for others too. I provide inputs to resolve issues which I feel I have a solution for to make life of others a little better in this world. Thank you again.Originally posted by the_one View Post

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
I am a irregular visitor to this forum.
As I mentioned previously, I own red AS200. Maybe I am partly lucky and partly because I listen to the bike, I have not faced any major problems with the bike.
Here are my 2018 updates:
1. Switched over to Sahyadri crashguard: although the guard is perfectly alright, the crash guard mounting bolt size which the Bajaj has designed is very small and weak it's just adequate for the dwarf like guard that OEM gives. Trying to fit the heavier guard is not satisfactory since the weakest link in the guard are the 2 small Allen bolt. Currently managing with the same. Researching on a better mounts.
2. I've decided to do all maintenance myself and acquired most of the required tools. As and when the need arises for new tools I've decided to aquireit. Last week I replaced the oil. I had got the engine oil warned up well. And the filter wet before filling. 1.5L motul synthetic was just adequate to reach the lower sight level. Also drained the old coolant (3yrs and 33kkm later) drained the system using 1L distilled water. I could find a lot of debris while draining. I would recommend all of you to replace coolant much earlier.
3. Planning for fork overhaul, chain slider, air filter replacement as soon as all the parts arrive from 99rpm(trying them for the first time)
4. Chain tensioner and timing chain have started making noise, will have to work on than within next 5kkm.
5. From oversize Michelin and rear stock spec MRF are not good combination for grip. But the front Michelin grips amazingly. Next set of change is far away I'll stick to stick size but better tyres.
6. Also some of the clips in the fairing looks fatigued, need to buy clips and replace all whenever possible.
7. Chain was replaced 10kkm before, they are holding up well due to good maintenance.
8. I swear by tribocor chain lubes. Right now I'm trying dry lube variant of the same lube, the experience is mixed. Will give a detailed review soon. I clean my chain using diesel.
9. Clutch has gone a little weak. Needs replacement within 5kkkm.
10. Had replaced clutch and acc cable 5kkkm back. Now I ride with not apprehension. The mechanic botched up the routing though. Needs correcting asap.

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
Hello Brother, glad to know that, you take such good care of your ride. I am envious of you for acquiring all the tools dude ! Damn! And here I am still wondering about it. Anyways, I think its a brilliant initiative and I support you for that. Just few suggestions for the future maintenance.Originally posted by g.anekar032 View PostI am a irregular visitor to this forum.

1. 1.5 Litres is too much I feel, if you are opening the clutch cover only then you would need 1.4 l of engine oil. Otherwise 1.25 or 1.3 should be adequate. Pouring in extra oil will restrain the movement of the parts in the running engine, which will further create stress as well. Just an advise brother.
2. Use Motul 20T for Fork Oil, clean the inside of the Forks with WD40 or Kerosene. Check for spring dampening by placing them on Glass. For chain slider, you will have to bring down the swingarm and the exhaust. I would suggest to change the slider when you will be working on the swingarm bearings, pivots and oil seals.
3. Check for Rocker Arm noise when planning to change timing chain, also the Cam bearing play. It is always advisable to change the group of parts which work together for one purpose. Rocker arm, valves, cam, cam bearing, timing Chain and Tensioner are a group.
4. Always use stock size for front, you can upsize rear but do not upsize front.
5. Try and replace the sprockets and chain to DID or JT next time. Thank me later. Always clean with kerosene, even diesel has the tendency to swell up the rubber between links, once a while wash is ok but not frequently. Try Wurth Chain Spray. Or Gear oil 85w140 GL5
6. Get an entire housing (from flywheel to the end nut) for clutch, use the RS200 part number BS3. Will cost you 2500. You will fall in love with the launch. ENSURE to align the the housing correctly when installing the clutch assembly, most fail critically at this stage.
Also, do please check the wheel bearings and sprocket bearing, use marine grease for the greasing.
RIDE SAFE!

Thanks for all the suggestions, will be coming back to this post again and again.Originally posted by Hunterkol View PostJust few suggestions for the future maintenance.

1. I am a little cost concious at this point of time, so all the part changes will not be carried out
2. I differ with you on oil quantity front. If the engine oil is hot while draining, the draining will be complete. While refilling 1.5L is minimum requirement. When Bike is standing on its wheel vertically the oil should reach above the lover level in the sight glass, that's my reference. Also I check oil level after idling the engine for 5 min.

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
Indeed your technique of draining the engine oil is perfect. However, the upper level is reached in 1.3l of Motul 7100 20w50 on double stand, with previous engine oil flushed out, even after the clutch and magnet housing is fitted after servicing it takes 1.4 max. Anyways, conditions differ for every machine, they might be the same model but every bike behaves differently.Originally posted by g.anekar032 View PostThanks for all the suggestions, will be coming back to this post again and again.

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
Hello everyone. This thread has gone cold.. no wonder many would have sold off their machines and moved on. My bike has been going good and has clocked 28000kms in two years now. The recent problem that I am facing is that the top end has drastically reduced. I can barely keep 110 on the highway with engine just roaring heavily. There is no change in tacho reading bike does 100 at 7000 rpm. The chain set is badly worn out so its makes a very rough noise even after service and lubrication. The tappets were recently adjusted so no clicking sounds or any cold start or overheating issue.
Can't figure out the problem. Mechainc says worn out chainset and partially worn out clutch plates are to blame for reduced top end speed. Chain set replacement is due but clutch plates??? Could they be an issue?

It would only help me to help you if you could provide me with a brief history of your last service and maintenance, as in what was changed or adjusted.Originally posted by Anubhav M View PostHello everyone. You are right, this thread has gone ice cold. I come here everyday but find nothing, no one talks. Anyways, taking her to Bhutan on 9th and no, not a Thimphu and Paro tour but an expedition to explore the entire country. I want to see edge of that Godly Country. Won't be around from 9th September for 20 or more days let me know if I can help before or after that.

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
The last service i got spark plugs changed and both front n back wheel bearings greased. Oil changed. Using motul 7100. And other routine jobs like new air filter etc. Carb was not touched. Chain was serviced. As of now the chain set is almost gone because the chain becomes tight at some places n loose at other so it can't be adjusted for tension anymore.Originally posted by Hunterkol View PostYou are right, this thread has gone ice cold. Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
Check the clutch, it could be burned, the residues in the used engine should indicate that. Yes, worn out chain could affect the speed but, the way and symptoms you indicate are signs of burned clutch or worn out clutch hub springs. Hows the gears slotting in? Clanky? Sticky?Originally posted by Anubhav M View PostThe last service i got spark plugs changed and both front n back wheel bearings greased. Oil changed. Using motul 7100. Yes the gears are sticky specialy 1st neutral n second shifts. Will get them thoroughly inspected. Also when on center stand i hold the clutch n shift the tyre starts spinning not fast but yes little.Originally posted by Hunterkol View PostCheck the clutch, it could be burned, the residues in the used engine should indicate that. I am glad to know that some of us are still holding on to the bike with dear patience..as i am. The bike got discontinued after one year of purchase which made me rethink my choices. The seat is a bit hard but i use extra cushion strapped on on touring rides. Fairing noise is a little irritating at speeds upto 60kmph but then bike goes up smoothly.
Have installed extra cree fog lamps but nit satisfied much with it. Anyone here using fog lamps of any kind.
Also i have bypassed the relay now i can turn in the headlights and parking light and console lights with engine off
Second thing i did was rewire the indicators for hazard lights because i travel in foggy conditons as well.

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
There are no reasons for me to let go of this wonderful bike. I was skeptic too at first but then I asked myself why? Over the years I learned to take care of her and she never did disappoint me. I have honestly spent a lot of money on her to rectify certain issues, got her new tyres, made seat, 2 chain sprockets till date, KTM Clutch, regular checks, detailed servicing, premium engine oil, premium fuel, nitrogen, new carburetor, etc. I just ensure she isn't deprived of anything she needs.Originally posted by Anubhav M View PostYes the gears are sticky specialy 1st neutral n second shifts. My headlight, console light and other lights work right from the time I turn the ignition switch on. No need to start my engine, dunno how it works with yours.
Got myself these, yet to install but very effective, have then installed at the level of the headlight for better beam.
I just put in a switch with the wires in the front indicators and it works fine but, not when I take the key out. Gotta get a separate line for that.
My fuel efficiency is 34 to 37 in the city, depends on the riding condition, had dropped to 28 because of the faulty carburetor.
Have new sets of rocker arms and timing chain with new spark plugs.
Going to Bhutan next weekend, not the tourist trip of Thimphu Paro rather, gonna explore the entire country for 20 days.
A friend wants to experiment with 7100 10w50 for this trip, I am not sure if it is a good idea.
Let me know what do you think of it.

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
FZ250 is a very good bike, does what a 250 is suppose to but, lacks power when needed. Has some tappet issues and I feel it greatly lacks ABS and a 6th gear. The headlight is a pain in the ass and as a personal opinion, I am not very happy with the mileage. Like I said, the next bike I would upgrade to after this would be dominar or something which will give me the same VFM and better specs.Originally posted by #bpk View PostA youtuber named infoclone got bored of his as 200 and got himself fz 250, is it a wise decision
