Thank you for your comments/answers. I have a small doubt...

"Just so you know, dont ride the bike too slow that the motor lugs, it will put undue load on the crank bearings as well as cause cylinder scarring"

I try to keep the above it mind, but I will admit that a few times so far I have made this mistake (mostly cuz previous bikes I've ridden only had 4 gears and this one has 6)...so, just for a very rough reference, may I know at/above what speed do you shift up to the 6th gear? I know it can depend on several things like traffic situation, slope (uphill/downhill), RPM etc but just from plain speed point of view, (and this question is for others reading this post too) when do you shift to the 6th gear? Above 53/54Km/hr I feel the engine starts becoming noisier in 5th, so, I shift up to 6th. But once my pillion (a friend of mine who own a 5 gear Honda Trigger) told me that I should only use the 6th gear for cruising. so, ideally I should try to only shift up once I've crossed 60km/hr and plan to stay above that.......I'm not sure but how far is this true?

Thanks

We cannot blindly trust technician and service centers as they don’t bother so much about our bike for oil grade / oil change.
I have changed Shell 15w40 recently and oil has got pale yellow color and could clearly visible through glass.
Tool-kit provided is not good quality & spanners are improper size, so I recommend don’t rely on them and prefer garage tool to avoid wear n tear of nut-bolts.
Using grease will be great choice over normal oil coz oil is having tendency to ooze out and only fulfills short term purpose. Any oil could fit the lubrication purpose whether it’s used or fresh, irrespective of grade.

Thank you very much RaviRaj and Punarvasu.
I guess I'll try changing oil myself next time. And, that drained oil should turn out to be a general lubricant too in that case. I'm going to buy better tools in two days time. I'm planning to do some electrical tweaks too very soon. A better head-lamp bulb and planning two custom made DIY LED narrow beam lights (guess I can't call them fog lamps). Full DC conversion is still a little far!

New version GS150-R is launched in Colombia and they renamed it to GS-R ( source GS-R | Suzuki Motos Colombia ).Not sure if only graphics have changed or something also changed, but this GS-R looks a lot better then existing GS150-R..hope this will be released in India also...

I have completed 35500 kms in my 42 months old GS

Oil level was gradually decreasing for the last few thousand Kms.

Bike was parked over a week and noticed that oil is dripping slowly from the drain plug.

Removed the drain plug and found the the thread in the Oil stainer cap was broken.

Use a 8mm ring spanner to remove the Oil stainer cap (3 nuts).

I would salute Suzuki for this model. In most bikes I noticed, the bike/engine has to be taken to lathe to be fixed.

On the way to Office today purchased a new Oil stainer Cap (77 INR), Drain Plug (14 INR) and Gasket (Washer-10INR) from SMK Suzuki, Porur.

I did not find the gasket with my GS earlier..

COuld not find even a single GS in the showroom today.. Full of Gixxers.. Model being refreshed/discontinued ?

Also the rubber washer (to be fixed in the oil stainer cap) was not available in the showroom.

Hi,

am a happy owner of GS since sep2013..

bike is going rock solid..completed 18k on Odo...getting around 54kmpl ..sometimes 48kmpl or 62kmpl..

i do hav a few issues with the bike....i hear a screeching sound both from the rear brake and front disc when applying brake..

the rear sound appears every morning and disappears after a few kms but the front disc still makes sound whenever it is applied..

what could \be the reason?

also my digi console stopped working..the service center said it is out of stock and he said it is under warranty so can be replaced..

i bought the bikw in sep2013 and one year warranty is over..he said it can be replaced free of cost ..

does console still comes under warranty..?

waiting for replies.

thanks,

Hello Kiran,

Did it rain recently in your place ?

The rear brake making noise is because of moisture in the break drum.. You should remove the brakes and blow out dust stuck to the brake drums. Clean it with a dry cloth and fix it back.

Small mud particles must have stuck to the disk pads making the noise. You will have to remove the front wheel, use a sanding paper and scrub the disk pads and replace them.

Perform these only if you are so much annoyed with the sound. They will disappear in few hunderd kms.

Not sure of the console.

Regards,
Anand

Hi guys,
Been a long time since I posted here.

I had been posted to work in a different state for 3 months and had left my bike at home to be used by my brother. The bike was serviced in October 2014. Since then, my brother used it for his daily office commute which is about 50 km daily, without getting any services/ maintenance done. Now after my return, I see that the bike has run 5000 km after the last service without oil change and is making a harsh noise on startup and running. After I took my bike to the SVC, they informed me that the bike needed an engine overhaul and the same would cost 17,000 rupees INR. I want to take the bike to another SVC to get a second opinion. Now I'm debating if it's worth spending 17 thousand rupees on a 3 year old bike that has run 32000 km.
In today's world, quotes don't matter. Quotas do!

5k running since last servicing isn't too much, I think. Better to take opinion of other SVC. I agree with you and I too don't think spending 17k on engine overhaul is worth it. But surprising to see GS150 not withstanding some use. Better take second opinion.

Hello everyone,

With 1650 kms clocked on my bike's odo, officially the 'run in' is complete I think. So, yesterday I was out to test it at higher RPM (max 7500 RPM I think), I picked the electronic city flyover (Bangalore) for the same. Tyre pressure checked just before proceeding towards the flyover. Myself and Pillion + backpack combined weight around 150 kgs. More than 10 liters of fuel in the tank for sure.

In ECO mode: Top speed clocked exactly 110 km/hr, the pick up was not very quick but I felt ABSOLUTELY NO vibrations. Steering, handle bars, the bike in itself absolutely smooth and stable. Really impressive. However, I felt that jerky effect (like the bike was going to go in Reserve fuel mode) for 1-2 seconds at around 80-82 Km/hr and then again around 97-98 km/hr. It went away very fast or maybe I just didn't notice it long enough.

In Power mode: Top speed again clocked exactly 110 km/hr. However I didn't feel that jerky effect this time. I don't know, maybe something to do with the mode OR something else. Bike was smooth and stable again. Pick up? I was accelerating uniformly. I'm not sure if it was really that good or maybe just psychological effect of being in "power mode" that I felt acceleration response was quicker.

Without any doubt there was still some scope to go up the speed some more, but on both occasions there was something about some car or another bike etc and I had to slow down to keep safe distance. Sorry, no photos were clicked at the moment of top speed cuz we thought maybe it would have been risky for the small experience I have...

Have a nice day! Safe biking!

Rahul

PS: the bike running + gear shift seems smoother post carrying out this 'test' above...again, I'm not sure if it's psychological or something really changed haha

At 32k, for an otherwise nicely used bike, a top end engine overhaul would be sufficient and no issues should be there with crank and all. 17k is too high for that. Take opinion of another SVC. Just check with a trustworthy local mechanic also.

roamer, all the things mentioned in your post are psychological Change of bike reaction in both the modes, bike getting smoother post a speed run.

The modes are nothing but lights triggered to come up at different points of RPM depending on your selection. That's it, there is no engine/ecu relation.

Animeher, thank you for clarification Well, I had called up the showroom to ask the same about the different modes, the guy was trying to explain similar stuff what you have mentioned I think. BUT he did get slightly confused and thought that I wanted the settings changed in my bike and he mentioned that (in ECO mode) IF I WANT then I can get the light to blink at 4000 RPM instead of the factory set 5000 RPM. So it means essentially the bike will give you an indication that you're out of ECO mode as soon as you exceed 4000 RPM. I politely declined saying 5000 RPM for the blink is good enough for me since my usual riding speed is 40-60 km/hr depending on traffic.

Hello all,

Today I installed a small rubber washer near the silencer to dampen the vibrations felt near foot peg/silencer/engine at around 3600 RPM. The steps to do this are already available within this thread. Many thanks to the original contributors for the idea and 'how to' explanation.

The vibration which was felt while RPM going up has totally vanished. But slight vibrations still felt while RPM going down. Nonetheless, a great 'change' overall.

Happy Riding!!!

Hi all,

A few weeks back, I had asked the below on this thread.

A used 2011 August model GS150R peacock blue color. Run just 7622 KM.
In top condition as owner is somewhat of an enthusiast himself but left biking due to health issues.
Is 40K a good price for this?

New one OTR is 85.7K where I live!
SatSon was helpful enough with a couple of quick responses. Further digging through this thread and a test ride of the bike made me fall in love with it. Here I was looking for an SZ bike from Yamaha and suddenly I had to have the Suzuki. I finally bought this exactly a month ago and loved every moment on the bike since. Made two separate long (for me at least) 400 KM trips on it within first month of ownership. Have already rode close to 1.8K since I got the bike on 25th last month. Serviced it once immediately after purchase. The kind of notchy gear shift was smoothened a bit while the oil change (synthetic) definitely made the bike ride better. Since last week though, the familiar issues (i saw them frequently mentioned on this thread) of front disc brake squeaking noise and excessive engine heating (even
after short rides at steady speeds) have started. Apart from that though, it has been a great experience on the GS.

I have written enough for an intro post so I'll end with a couple of pictures.

A bit on the higher side I know but I don't mind it considering bike's condition.
