*Carb is still factory-set, bull returns 60-65 kmpl on highways (60-65 kmph @ 6th cog, absolute minimum braking and re-acceleration).

    *Valves/tappets untouched

*Getting a peculiar grinding/vibration at 4000-4500 RPM, uncharacteristic of GS - tightened the lower engine mounting bolt-nut after removing
right foot peg. My Taparias fouled with the crash bar so couldn't tighten the front ones. Observation: When the vibration happens, silencer vibrates like mad - is it actually silencer vibration and nothing to do with engine?

*OEM chain loosens easily and too often !

RSK, did you get your 4000 RPM vibration solved?

    Great Ashwanth.

I dont think it is required to change front fork oil unless it is leaking. Let it run for another year / till 30000 Kms.

You dont need to replace the disk oil. Just check and top up if required with the recomment brand. I have a TVS girling Dot 3 handy.

My GS has crossed 36000 kms and I remember changing the Front fork oil somwhere around 25000 mark. Never changed the disk oil yet.

    @ others,

Has anyone serviced the rear forks. My mechanic asked 300 to service one of the rear fork. It is leaking oil for a long time now and I have no time to spend with the mechanic.

      Hi All,
Got little busy yesterday and was not able to update the events related to the my mad obsession with valves and even people close to me advised me to consult psychiatry.

Somehow I managed to get the motorcycle inside the service center workshop for the valve clearance and one of my friend inside told that he will take good care if I get the motorcycle inside. So as per his suggestion I had 2 hours as he wants the engine to be perfectly cold as possible. So I goes out for getting some of the works done meanwhile my GSD150R gets fixed. Which was a poor decision as I ended up walking in mid day sun for 1 hour which was not pleasant at all and I missed my ride so much. I was sweating like hell and like never before and close to dehydration.

Reached the ASC during the lunch break and checked with the service supervisor and he said with great joy that repairs are pending because they were very busy that morning and I should come after 5:30 to collect the motorcycle(now I know why they always use the F'ing busy word, its just a F'ing excuse tool to not get anything done with their laid back attitude.). As it is their lunch break, I decided to retire to the air conditioned waiting lounge to compose tired self and recharge from the water cooler. I never felt a deep feeling of love and respect to a almost invisible simple accessory of our offices after that walk of mid day hell of a sun. I cursed myself profusely for taking the damn decision to end up in a urban trek and blaming it on the irregular less frequent transport after office opening and closing hours.

10 minutes after lunch break and asked the lady in reception to check with the friend inside that if my motorcycle works are done or not, she comes back and tells me that the settings are done and that he invited me inside to check the works done (I am confused with what the service supervisor said) . I was taken to my motorcycle and friend asked me to start the motorcycle and feel the difference myself.

So I starts and just could not believe the difference. Friend tells me that himself and the senior Japanese engineer from Suzuki and friend fixed the valve for me. He tells me that there was huge margin of valve clearance of almost 2.5 feelers according to the Japanese Suzuki engineer and which is unacceptable for standards and he himself sets the clearance of my motorcycle valves. At first I thought he was being funny with me for a while(I know this guy for more than 12 years and he used to fix my one of first Bajaj motorcycles I owned and he lives in the same locality and we became friends through common friends and overall and nice fun loving person). I asked him, dude what the f**K do you mean by these Japanese fixing my motorcycle buls**t and you are more than enough for GS150R just to find him pointing at a senior Japanese engineer standing behind me and looked at my friend and said a very nice thank you and to the nice Jap guy. I told him that the sound of the engine is very refined and clear now and less harsh. I that I can't wait to take her for a test drive. Now all are happy!

      Test drive
Most of you guys would not able to believe me and how a properly set valve clearance could do t o the ride.

@animeher - Daddybob, why so angry about valves?! So many *** and coloured language?
Just, give a try fixing clearance of your motorcycles valves properly if it is due for a long time and find it out yourself .

      List of improvements.
      • 30-35 percentage drop in noise level checked with android app before and after (super swiss army knife - a great must have tool - Google play)
      • 15-20 percentage increase in pickup and power
      • Drastic reduction of vibration and roughness.
      • Auto decompressor started to behave properly at low idle speeds.
      • Idle speed increased without any adjustments.
      • Engine does not have vibrations over 3.5K (I should do that rubber bush fix for the silencer. Arrgh its long pending thing to get done. Oh and I have the lazzy A** explantion that I was busy, you know)
      • Over taking is smooth in sixth gear and do not feel out of breath.
      • Cold starts are super easy in the morning.
      • Overall the exhaust note and engine feels more composed and refined..
      • According to the Suzuki expert it avoids early failure of valve train components and wear.
      • Less carbon deposits and much better and powerful combustion.
      • No loss of combustion pressure and conversion.
      • Better timing of combustion.
      • Evident increase in mileage after the 65 km ride after the valves go fixed (will post figures after a proper usage and check)

      My suggestion for everyone.
Demand the valve clearance to be inspected and adjusted on every General Service (it's free for and includes in GS for most makers) or every 4K/8K after the first 4K's depending on your make. Demand adjustments at every 1K for the first 4K, this is really important. This gives more life for valve train components and delays engine head overhauls. And ride quality and performance will be better.

      VERY IMPORTANT SUGGESTIONS

Never get this done by anyone who does not understands why it's done, the procedure, workings and standards thoroughly for setting clearance of valves. As improper setting can backfire and cause chain reaction of permanent damages to components and unnecessary huge maintenance and spares expenses. Experts can play with valve lash for better performance and a earlier or late lash for inlet or outlet valve could give a small performance boost as the engine sees less cam in each cycle.

Be sure that the person uses proper tools and feeler sizes depending on cold or hot engine and feeler sizes appropriate for inlet and outlet valve as per standards. Compiled from inputs I received and they adjusts the setting and valve lash before every track race for performance cars and motorcycles and for us it should be done in regular intervals as per the service manual and should be demanded from the service manager to let you know the periodic valve adjustment schedule of your vehicle if you are in doubt about the same.

So what ever happened during my adamant search for a proper valve/tappet clearance and adjustment my GS150R is pretty F'ng happy now.

      Happy riding everyone!

Hello there, Good to see you get your job done with so much hassle.. I was on same boat last month as i was crossing 22K with not so normal NVH and most importantly my average dropped on longer ride to almost 25% of original. I did not bother to go play with the authorized service/trained monkeys and bought a Stanley make feeler gauge from nearest available location thanks to @sibun and tappet adjustment tool (both costs 250+50 odd INR) and went to usual outside mechanic explained him what to do and told him the clearance on both side, and overlooked the whole procedure and at the end checked the adjusted level myself and done for 50 INR. Yes you wrote down the Improvements somewhat one would expect. FE and NVH are back to stock..

Does any one know when a when GS150R is the due for decarbonising and valve seating. Lately I've been hearing the tik noise related to tappets or valve from the cylinder head. Seems like the service center guys skipped the check, inspect and adjust procedure of tappets clearance for more than last couple of general services. I asked them to do it in the last visit and according to them it's a complex job and skipped it shamelessly when they already had to remove the fuel tank for other works. My belief is that the clearance can be adjusted in 15 minutes and less if the fuel tank is already removed. Does not able to adjust tappets periodically causes damages or higher maintenence cost? Any suggestions.

I bought this black bull (GS 150 r ) 8 months back. Untill 1st service from SMK Suzuki porur ,I had no issues other than hadlebar bent due to a minor accident which i replaced later.Let me list out the problems hoping to find help from this thread..

I use to get a mileage of 58-60 kmpl when ridden in economy mode with a speed range of 50-60kmph on highway stretch
Got my 1st service when odo clocked 890kms.Since then i face low mileage issues my bull delivers only 40-44 kmpl with same road and same driving patterns.I rode numerous times to service centre, but all i got was some eye washing like loose chain is the reason,2nd time they tuned the idelling screw from 1200rpm to 1000rpm but no change in mileage,3rd time they did some tuning in the fuel screw but still no change in mileage,4 th time despite of my forcing got MILEAGE CAN test with 100ml fuel i got a reading of 5.6 kms .but i used reserve to reserve method which gave me only 42kmpl,half litre homemade coke bottle mileage can also returned the same low mileage figure..

          *Before 1st service = 60 kmpl * after 1st service = 40-42kmpl..(now my bike reads 2040kms on odo).

*2 nd service at smk .NO improvement .walked in many times with this low mileage issue.no improvements.
*Then I got my bike serviced at ABT (6000ms odo)they cleaned and tuned the carb, cleaned brakes ,but no improvements.

I am really frustrated of this issue ,hope someone could help me here..I will post my ownership review after getting these problems solved.Help me guys please..

*I checked my airfilter .Its clean as new
*I spark plug have no issues as I can see blue sparks clearly, optimum gap and plug is clean.
*My carb fuel screw is 2.5 (360+360+180 degrees) from lock position.Noted it while the svc guy tuned.
*Fuel I use the hp bunk nearby since the first day of buying this bike.So no prob with fuel.
          *Both wheel rotates freely
*chain tight seems to be normal

          *no leaks in petrol tank.
          *nothing abnormal.
          *no hiccups while riding

Help me I loose around 100rs per 500rs fuel + waste of fuel in environment extra pollution

          Thanks ....

I have experienced the same with my motorcycle when I used to ride in harsh bumper to bumper traffic in a harsh manner. Kindly check if this is the reason. And I would always suggest a fuel can for checking mileage or may be you could get the mileage checked from service center itself. They will always carry the cans for checking mileage

If I may suggest...please use average method of reserve to reserve mileage check rather than 500ml or even 1 liter. This means...
          1. Note down the ODO when the bike hits reserve
          2. Fill the fuel for some 8-9 liters (or even more as I don't know the capacity of GS)
          3. Ride as normally as you will
          4. Note down the ODO when the bike hits reserve
          5. Do the calculation as [(Step 4 - Step 1)/Step 2], which will give you near to accurate FE
          @DaddyBob, satson,

My mileage issue is not solved...frustrating
..refilled from a reputed bunk,10 litres of fuel returned 423 kms (42.3 kmpl)
..I dont crawl in b2b traffic,my riding routes consists of 80% of highway and i drive in eco speed so I believe my riding style does not contribute to mileage loss

--To hell with SVC people.Shouldn't have left my bike for service with them

Sorry to know that you are still facing the issue. From your post you have mentioned that the ASC tech have set the idle speed to 1K this may not affect the mileage but could affect auto decompressor to kick in unnecessarily. The standard setting should be 1.3-1.5K RPM.

Coming to the mileage issue. I believe that your motor cycle is under warranty and I would suggest you to speak to the manager directly and tell him the issue that you are facing and tell that you want a replacement if no one is not able to fix from the service center.
