Is 40K a good price for this?

New one OTR is 85.7K where I live!
If the kms covered is genuine, you may go for it.
Check the service background by checking the service slips.
Check the bike thoroughly for rust, if the bike was sitting idle for a long time.

Also, you can try to negotiate the price a bit

Thanks for the quick reply mate!

KMs covered is indeed genuine. Will ask for service slips when I visit him today though.
Rust is not present anywhere. I guess it is also helped by the fact that I live far away from the seashore and in a dry/dusty place.

Nevertheless, many many thanks for the tips!

As for price, he came down to that after negotiating a fair bit. How much lower do you think I can get this down?

I\'ve used 120/80 for quite a while on my Hunk. Later switched back to stock 100/90 as the tire was rubbing the chain guard, though lightly.
There was slight difference in speed at specific RPM.
I didn\'t notice much of a difference in mileage though.

If the negotiation is already done, I don\'t think he will be ready to bring it lower considering he is an enthusiast and the kms covered.
Hope you have Suzuki spares/service center near you, as Suzuki spares are difficult to source in local spare shops.

          Hi GS owners,

I want to buy a GS150R. Took the test drive and loved it. The engine is very smooth and rev happy motor. The gears are tall and love to pull more. The electricals are good quality and the display is pure bliss.
The on road here(SM Suzuki Wagholi, Pune) is 83.5K INR. If i pay cash they are ready to give for 81.5K.
Can any owner give a unbiased review whether I should buy it on today\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s date or should I confer another bike.
My riding is 80percent in the city and occasional highway trips with pillion. Just the fact that there is low resale value and not so good in pickup(its a heavy bike)is a hiccup for me.
          Please advise.

            Hi There @ani_iceman

GS is best pick in my opinion.
I went through long checklist before opt for it and I am quite happy with decision.
Ideally we all have certain views and notions towards every bike and no bike is perfect.
GS150R is underestimated in India where Bajaj and Hero are leading brands. But tech savvy & hard-core motorcyclist definitely will go for Suzuki & Yamaha bikes.
If you have decided to choose GS you may consider below facts and figures.
            • High Price: Compare to other brands in its category 83000/- pretty high cost. You can easily get Indian made (TVS-Bajaj-Hero) 180cc bike within this range and Gixxer or FZ from Yamaha. Mine from Pune location (Bhaiji Suzuki) was 80200/- purchased in May-14.
            • Ordinary Looks: Boon of 6th Gear: Indeed this is uniqueness of this GS150R and this factor makes it very spatial. On highway you could realize how firmly and calmly you can enjoy speed of 90-110 kmph where other 150-180cc bikes struggle to catch you. I personally enjoy this scene when guys try to catch me on old Pune Mumbai Highway with great efforts and look at me madly. Touring is best due to highest top end.
But either way, this is horrible bike I have ever seen in city and handling is pathetic. Forget 5th & 6th gear and quick response. I will suggest go for other High low end torque bike like (apache/fz/gixxer) if you will be riding 80% in city.
            • Heavy weight: A big boy compare to any other 150-180cc bike but if are above 5.5 tall then no need to worry. Dry weight of GS and Unicorn is nearly same. Ground clearance of GS is higher and hence stability is best. Control at high speed is even better than any other bike due to lower center of mass/gravity.
            • Servicing:No DC lights , No rear disc break, No tubeless tyres, No Fuel ejection system ( GS is having Bikuni carburetor),

Best Quality Buld, hence long lasting and long term companion, yeah, my GS 150 is testimony to that, 1,12,200 happy kilometers. Every kilometer has been a joy to ride this. Pity it is made by Lazy Suzuki India. An upgrade with DC Lights and optional Rear Disc Brake will make this best 150 CC in India. Fuel Injection, and tubeless tyres, all dreams. Hi fellow riders,
It\'s been a while since I got back to this thread. Used to be an avid follower of the thread even before I owned my beloved GS. Some how I slipped off my online presence. But, it really feels great to see that there is still a lot of love for GS150R and Suzuki. I wish the number of happy riders multiply as time goes by.

By the way, I have a few doubts. (I used the search function, but it is returns only a blank page on all the browsers I tried - Opera, chrome & Firefox)
                1. Should the oil be of a golden-brown colour after a fresh oil change when viewed through the oil level checking window on the side of engine? Mine is quite dark when I check that even after an oil change. The service centre said an oil change was carried out, but could there be some other way to cross check this?

                2. What size spanner should be used to remove the front sprocket cover? I tried with the No. 8 spanner in the bike tool kit, but that is slipping. No 7 spanner won\'t fit too. So I\'m guessing either the enclosed No. 8 spanner is not up to the standard or could the screws be not following metric standards - that is highly unlikely! Can anyone with prior experience with them drop a comment please.

                3. I just grease my chain whenever I lubricate it. Should I be using a liquid lubricant instead? If so, can anyone recommend one.

                Thank you very much.

There will be no new gs150 R coming even they are not taking any bookings for gs if any body wants to buy it should wait for a period of 1 month after the booking.
The next launch will be the faired version of the gixxer.

Suzuki is now getting very popular by this little monster.

                          Use a good 8 mm T spanner.

                            Hello Everybody,

Just a few updates from my side:

                            1) 1st servicing completed on bike - 29 Days, Odo 710 Km, service guys at NineStar (Hosa Road, Bangalore) skipped many of the checks as mentioned in the manual (valve clearance check, battery fluid+ charge check and exhaust emission/CO analysis they said are not required to be done at all since the bike is new....I said \\\\\\\"but the manual says so\\\\\\\"...they said \\\\\\\"ok, we will do\\\\\\\"....I was there at the workshop throughout, they didn\\\\\\\'t do it I am sure. This is my first owned bike, so, I don\\\\\\\'t know if the guys skipped these things cuz they are lazy OR it really not required to be done.

                            2) Till the 1st service, I was using all the gears but always in ECO mode and usually 3500-4000 RPM and very rarely RPM 4500 usually cuz of slope. The speed would correspond to between 40-52/54km per hour. After the 1st service, I have been riding at 4000-5000 max RPM, still always in ECO mode and max speed corresponds between 48-59/60 Km/hr. The bike completed 1000 kms a few days ago.

                            3) As mentioned so many times in this thread, 3500RPM vibration is easily felt near the foot rest but it\\\\\\\'s okay.

                            4) When I accelerate for an upshift, there is a strange vibrating sound. For several days I tried to trace it and I was convinced that it\\\\\\\'s the sound tyre makes when air pressure is slightly less. I always checked bike tyre pressure and it was ok. Then yesterday I figured the sound is actually coming from the display console area (some sort of vibration when engine rev\\\\\\\'ed gently and the console is vibrating against the headlight/body or something, not really sure yet)

                            5) Early morning/first start takes a few kicks(3-4) without choke, takes 1 kick with full choke. I don\\\\\\\'t use throttle while starting the bike in either case.

                            6) Upon delivery, the warm idle rpm was around 1500-1700. During the 1st service, I got it changed to 1000-1100 rpm. I had reported this to the service guy during pre delivery inspection itself, at that moment he said \\\\\\\"the bike is new, let the idle rpm be high else bike be off during idling\\\\\\\".

                            7) So far I put 20 liters of fuel in the bike (of course, not all together) and maybe there was 1-2 liters of fuel in the tank when I got delivery. The odo right now is around 1070 kms and bike in reserve with 2 bars on the fuel indicator. I guess I am getting a mileage close to 48-50 kmpl. Mostly (80%) of the times I have been riding with pillion in the past month.

                            8) The rear shock absorbers/springs make squeaking sound from the last 1 week. I don\\\\\\\'t really know if this sound can be muted in any way.

                            9) The longest ride so far was from Electronic city to Nandi hills and then back. Forgot to check the TRIP counter but maybe it was a little over 120 Kms. Both me and pillion didn\\\\\\\'t have any complaints (maybe cuz of the break journey in between) towards the end of the day regarding the seat comfort. The suspension is still set at default \\\\\\\"3\\\\\\\" from the factory.

At the moment, overall, I am quite pleased with the bike. Still a few hundred kms to go before 1600 kms (official end of run in period as per manual) so, I guess bike\\\\\\\'s performance will become clearer after that. I have a white colour, so, the smoky dust deposits during traffic and even the slightest water/dirt is easily visible on the body but just a normal water/wet cloth wipe and it is beautiful again

                            Happy riding everyone!

Its is common, value clearance etc is only inspected if the customer complains of any abnormalities in performance.

                              2) Till the 1st service, I was using all the gears but always in ECO mode and usually 3500-4000 RPM and very rarely RPM 4500 usually cuz of slope. Just so you know, dont ride the bike too slow that the motor lugs, it will put undue load on the crank bearings as well as cause cylinder scarring.

                              3) As mentioned so many times in this thread, 3500RPM vibration is easily felt near the foot rest but it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s okay.

Resonance vibrations, mostly evident on all single cylinder motors.

                              4) When I accelerate for an upshift, there is a strange vibrating sound. For several days I tried to trace it and I was convinced that it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s the sound tyre makes when air pressure is slightly less. Fairing rattle is a common problem, especially if you ride in uneven terrains. But nothing to worry about, you can either take it apart and double tape it, or just ignore and learn to live with it.

                              5) Early morning/first start takes a few kicks(3-4) without choke, takes 1 kick with full choke. I don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t use throttle while starting the bike in either case.

Use the kicker only when you really need it, generally I would just crank the bike for a few seconds, then turn the choke on and crank again. It is fine to give some throttle and help maintain a healthy idle, else there wont be proper oil circulation.

                              6) Upon delivery, the warm idle rpm was around 1500-1700. During the 1st service, I got it changed to 1000-1100 rpm. I had reported this to the service guy during pre delivery inspection itself, at that moment he said \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"the bike is new, let the idle rpm be high else bike be off during idling\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\".

Dont think too much about idle speed, just make sure that the bike is able to idle a bit above 1k RPM when cold.

                              7) So far I put 20 liters of fuel in the bike (of course, not all together) and maybe there was 1-2 liters of fuel in the tank when I got delivery. Ride without revving too much or lugging the motor and it will return a decent mileage/liter, and also understand that there are much more important things than the bikes fuel efficiency to worry about.

                              8) The rear shock absorbers/springs make squeaking sound from the last 1 week. I don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t really know if this sound can be muted in any way.

Pressure wash and get the dirt out, if its still not solved, then replace it under warranty, which is a bit too extreme, but who gives a eff\', new suspensions hurray!

                                • Ordinary Looks: Like Unicorn (Honda) Suzuki also didn’t bother to make any sort of cosmetic changes. Recently Suzuki announced to launch next version of GS in June-2015 (Ref Google images) wherein Honda Unicorn new version with better looks is already hit the showroom. New Honda unicorn is amazing and its 160cc bike (I believe).
                                • Boon of 6th Gear: Indeed this is uniqueness of this GS150R and this factor makes it very spatial.
                                • Servicing: Best quality build hence long lasting and long term companion. Care need to be taken for oil change and frequent chain tightening. Suzuki service center are disastrous hence don’t anticipate best service. Choose good local service center.

                                  6. No DC lights , No rear disc break, No tubeless tyres, No Fuel ejection system ( GS is having Bikuni carburetor),

I dont know in which city you stay, but even in Bangalore traffic, i am able to use 6th gear. And with the 6th gear, my Gs150r really cruises effortlessly on ring roads and highways. Gs150r is not a bad handling bike in cities as you are saying. It handles decently enough. But rider should be around 5'8" in height to handle this bike. To see if a bike height is suitable for rider, when seated on the bike, the rider should be able to place both feet on the ground.

Yes, the initial pickup is not instantaneous, but all other 150cc bikes too have similar initial pickup.

Another plus point of gs150r, is the ergonomic seating position with slightly rear-set footpegs. But the gs150r handlebar is tall, so you can slightly adjust the handlebar position and bring it backwards closer to the rider for more comfort. The unicorn has forward-placed footpegs which are not ergonomic, but its handlebar is lower.

I frequently ride the yamaha Fz-S too. And though it is lighter, i find the initial pickup on Gs150r to be better than Fz-S. But the yamaha Fz-S being lighter and with smaller and wider tyres is purely made for street riding and easy handling. It is a fun to ride bike because of wide tyres, as you can lean in more confidently while turning. And everytime i ride the Fz-S, i find it a bit small and cramped, and i really miss the 6th gear and the digital meter with gear position indicator of Gs150r. But maybe the new Fz is slighly bigger and may not be as cramped.

In my opinion, if you are not riding on highways or ring roads frequently, buy a bike with 17-inch wheels and wide tyres, as you have easy handling in city. But wider tyres mean slightly lesser mileage. Be prepared to sacrifice a few kilometers mileage for some fun.
