since this bikes production is almost stopped, any idea if we can expect a new 150cc commuter from Suzuki?

Re: Suzuki GS150R
There seem to be some serious problem with your bike's engine.Originally posted by blitzz577 View PostHi everyone
I would like to confirm few points regarding my GS150r's recent problem. First off bike has done ~35K on ODO now. I changed to shell synthetic oil (10W40 which is okay as per manual) when ODO was 32K since the oil level was at L level. When the ODO was 34K, I noticed that engine oil level was dropping to level L in the engine oil window again which is not expected. Worried I took it to service centre to check it. They noticed that
1. Dark powder like deposits on the silencer interior walls
2. Oil level drained down was less than 100mL.
They said the bore of the engine might be damaged and reboring may be required. Service manager (saptagiri suzuki) blames the petrol (adulterated ones can damage engine and he suspect this is the case.. I always fill petrol at shell.. Where else can I fill petrol now?
).. the mechanic blames me that I haven't regularly checked the engine oil - come on dude, i service the bike atleast once in 3K kms at your showroom.. never got it serviced from a outside guy. I have been taking good care of my bike and check engine oil levels every 500kms. We buy 150cc desi bikes just to have least worry about the maintenance part but I am expected to take care of it like its a 1000cc GSxr...
They filled another 1000mL oil at 34K filled to F level..
its 800kms now and oil level is back to level L...
I just CANT IMAGINE a 150cc motorcycle from suzuki can have CRITICAL issues such as this at just 34K kms?!! May be my bike is the unlucky 1-in-100 but still this is not the quality that I expected from SUZUKI. If there is a real issue with the engine now (which I am sure is the case), I am just deciding never to buy another suzuki or any locally manufactured motorcycle just because of the kind of quality they provide us and kind of SERVICE the showrooms offer, the skill set they have .. I am just afraid to upgrade to a new motocycle now.... Better I switch to my cycle
.. And yes speaking of pollution when cycling.. I am just fed up!
If bore is worn out and oil is getting burned, you should be seeing smoke from exhaust on revving hard.
Also, drop in mileage and power should be there.
Check the opinion of your trusted local mechanic if you know someone.
34k is nothing for GS150r as there are bikes which has done more than 1 lakh without issues.

Thanks for the info. Yes I checked these points today at service centre. Everything looks fine.Originally posted by Freak inExile View Post1. Dark carbon powder deposits at the exhaust exit => rich AFR. Check choke, idle and air-filter...
2. Synthetic engine oils may get burnt, 100ml is not a big issue.
3. I'm not sure if it's ideal to have engine-oil level at maximum.
Good luck with cycling and CKD/CBU motorcycles.
Yes dark smoke is seen. Loads of it.. Mileage i am seeing a steady fall... Power wise i dont see an issue yet... Yes 34K is too less of a life for an engine from suzuki.. I dont rip apart the bike... Today I took bike to service centre followed by a local mechanic... First off 600mL was what left of 1000mL after 800kms.. Service centre guys were again quick to blame me and shell engine oil + petrol
.. Anyways they suggested half engine overhaul and estimated 6K expense.. Checked it with a local mechanic.. he suggested to go for complete overhaul .. it can cost 10K + .. He believes only reboring might result in issues later as other engine parts might have been affected due to this...
I went through experiences of fellow riders from xbhp and other forums and derived following conclusions
1. Do not go for engine overhaul unless its really required lik in cases were engine failed completely lik say stalling etc..
2. Most of the cases it might be a minor fix. Should try these before attempting reboring etc
3. Most of service centre mechanics/ local mechanics do not have the required skill set to do this job.. If done wrongly can spoil the engine to a great extent...
@all: let me know your opinions on this.. Anyone or any of your friends have done such engine fixes and are happy/unhappy with it?

I was suggested only to change the Piston ring size in my Unicorn by our forum members.
However I re-bored as the lathe guy was not ready to work on increasing piston ring size. Costed around 4500 including fixing issues with the Engine head / valves in my Unicorn at 38000 Kms.
Now My Unicorn has done 46000 Kms, and is returning a good 53 KMPL if driven below 60KMPH however it drinks 100-150 ML of oil in 2000KM oil interval.
Better to rebore the engine (+0.25 to current size - others please correct me if I am wrong). The approx cost will be 2500-3000 only (with new piston head & rings). You have to run-in the bike again for next 2000 kms (similar to new bike)
Even my GS which has completed 37500 KMS is drinking oil but not more than 200 ML. I make sure I change oil around 1800 - 2000 KM interval.2005 - Hercules MTB Thriller | 2018 - Apollo Evade

And don't wait for a condition you mentioned in point#1, such as engine would stall mid of road.
I have run my Hunk for around 10k in similar to your condition and at times I missed to check the oil levels regularly, though I knew that oil level is reducing.
Finally engine started to die in mid of road due to a busted spark plug (High levels of oil in combustion chamber causes this).
Finally when I decided for engine overhaul, the crank also had problems. The silencer was full of carbon and there was hardly any exhaust note. These bikes have sealed exhaust and it is difficult to clean them. It took me almost a year to burn the carbon inside the silencer after the engine overhaul. Note that a blocked exhaust will hinder the performance.
I had to spent around 10k for the overhaul(with OE Hero spares, new Bore/piston) at a local garage. The bike runs fine now.
I think your SVC guys are planning to overhaul the top part of engine for 6k with a new bore and piston.
IMO, it is always better to rely on SVC than going for rebore at local garage.

Everyday cover 30-40kms. Max speed 70-80kmph. Highway rides (not more than 60kms) once in 2 months. Reach 100kmph at times.
Run-in period maintained speeds below 60kmph and never crossed 5k RPM.. Post that upto 2.5K kms never exceeded 80kmph.
Post that Had a bad accident when ODO was ~6k km. Had left bike in service centre for a month or so. This is where I doubt what the service guys might have done to my bike because post this I had series of issues with lower gear shifting becoming really hard.
For the gear issues, changed sprocket, clutch plate, even gear assembly (was done under warranty period).
Used 15W50 motul oil for sometime. Switched to service centre oil fearing issues since I had gear issue at the same period. I admit it was a mistake switching oils.
Ever since then used service centre engine oil. But once switched to shell synthetic since oil level was so low and I badly needed a refill.
At times, very very rarely, havent gone for service for say upto 3-4K kms.
I have never ever crossed 9K RPM!!

Thanks. This gives me more confidence on going ahead with the repair job. I am just wondering what's gone wrong! Is it the way I ride the bike or is it that the service centre guys have screwed up something at some point. I just can't accept the fact that UNICORN/GS150r is having such issues. Cant these motorcycles withstand a little more than NORMAL riding??

Thanks this was helpful SatSon.. I am just thinking whether to go for these repairs and use the bike for some more time or sell the bike (yes I may need to sell it at a lower price). I am really unhappy with the way saptagiri suzuki guys attend to my problems. I am sure that might be the case with most service centres.

Just yesterday I did a 513km trip (Goa-panhala-Goa via Belgaum)
I maxed out at 128kmph in strong cross-winds on this all-stock(no mods) bike. That too I had accelerated from 70 kmph in 6th gear. I am sure if I had pulled it in 5th gear, 135kmph was achievable.
Also the stance I took helped to reach this top speed. Legs rested on the pillion foot pegs and head ducked with chest resting on the tank. With normal seating position I was doing 120.
Btw hats off to Suzuki. Doing ~90kmph continously was so smooth and comfortable. I never felt out of power.
Though I would like to mention, while I was at 125kmph 4 KTM RCs overtook me. They must be around 135-140. At that time I wished I was on Inazuma. Sadly Inazuma is no more on sale in India.Last edited by rsk_kelkar; 05-25-2015, 03:34 PM.

Re: Suzuki GS150R
Hi, maybe the repairs carried out for the hard gears resulted in your current problem. Even my gs150r had hard gears since day 1, and the suzuki service center guys just refused to acknowledge that there was a problem. Instead, they asked to continue riding as is and said it will be sorted in first service. But they did not do anything even after fourth service. The hard gears became really worse to the point they could not deny it anymore. I was forced to mail suzuki head office to get the gear problem rectified under warranty.Originally posted by blitzz577 View PostEveryday cover 30-40kms. Max speed 70-80kmph. They said they changed clutch plate and clutch bearing and then the gear shifts became better but not smooth. After repairs, they did not seal the bike properly, and there was oil leakage, for which i again mailed the head office and had to again leave the bike for service. The oil leakage was fixed.
Please check if your bike is leaking oil underneath. Also, suzuki service is just not good. They do not even check the basic adjustments, like clutch cable play, chain slackness, and brakes. They usually leave the chain too loose or too tight. They also overtighten the drum brakes, like they did to my cousin's Access. They just deny any problem or blame the customer for it. When they do carry out repairs, it is substandard work done urgently.
In my experience, service at Value suzuki is okay and Aerolex is good. You can try leaving your bike at Aerolex suzuki bangalore. You have to book a service at Aerolex.
I know with 1 liter fresh oil inside, with bike on center stand, it shows oil only up to half level. So, while filling oil do not fill excess oil, it will result in problems when the oil expands due to heat. Maximum you can fill 1.1 liter of oil.
Also, i too have been using shell fuel and semi-synth shell Ax7 oil, which is 10W40 grade. I even change the oil filter with every oil change. I do not know if the type of oil has to do anything with it. I have done 4k since my last oil change, and after i read your post, i checked the oil level in my bike. To my shock, the oil level is less than 20% now. I can only see oil if i tilt the bike. Seems like Shell Ax7 10W40 semi-synth does not suit our gs150r; it is getting reduced. Not sure if my engine has a problem now.
My 2012 gs150r has run just 18k km, and now i am again getting the hard gears problem slowly. A local mechanic told me my chain and sprocket has a problem, as it is loose at some points and tight at others when i rotate the wheel. And he says i get a smooth gear shift or hard gear shift depending on the position of the chain at that time. Even this chain and sprocket problem was pointed out to suzuki service within first year, but they refused to change it under warranty saying those parts are prone to wear and tear.
But as you can see from the posts above, bad service is not limited to suzuki; it exists with every brand, be it Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Hero, Bajaj, or TVS. But for a company like suzuki, whose market share is very less compared to others, their service attitude really sucks. They do not bother about customer once they sell the bike.Last edited by antonysg; 05-28-2015, 09:43 PM.

Re: Suzuki GS150R
I had huge expectations when I was buying this GS150R. I purchased this in June 2014 and now it has run close to 13k. I would rate this bike 2 star (out of 5).
1. Pick up is almost nil. Sometimes overtaking I have to downshift and pull forward. This happens when the pillion rider is there.
2. If you ride this bike in the range of 80 kmph - 100 kmph, you can expect only a mileage of 35-40 km/l.
3. I never got 70 or 60 km/l as people claim on this forum even after riding in the 60-75 kmph range.
4. Sitting comfort is not that good. I like the Pulsar seating position/posture.
5. Service centres are pathetic. Areas where one dealer is there, they treat you bad.
6. Servicing is not up-to-the mark.
7. With pillion rider, handling is not that great like Pulsars/Apache.
8. Illumination is pathetic, can't see properly in dark (needed projector lamps or something)
Likes:
1. Almost vibe-less even in 100 kmph
2. Powerful horn
Overall, please don't buy this bike. There are lot better bikes in market now. Stay away from suzuki.
Better bikes for this price are Apache, PUlsar 180/220. You get the same mileage there as well.

Yes, I had several other options as well. But there were big +ve reviews everywhere. So went for this one.
Even the showroom sales person asked "May I know why you are purchasing this bike, sir?"
No offence meant for GS owners. Everybody has their own choice and likes.
