      GS Disk Brake

Hey guys! the GS disk brake plate seems to be made of very soft metal. It seems to bend easily. I had a little bump and the disk was bent. The mech tried to fix it but could not and some scraping sound kept on coming. So I had to go for a replacement. I also visited a lathe guy and he said that the center piece (the whitish aluminum) is slightly raised than the edge (actual brake plate). He said some polishing had to be done to make them of equal width. He asked me to confirm with the mech if this was ok or not… the mech could not confirm, so the lathe work did not go through. I guess I should have taken the chance and had it done.

That polishing is not advisable as it reduces the thickness of the disc. So, replacing is better. Mine was replaced at about 36,000 kms.

        • GS150R Issues

          Dear xBhp'ians

I own a Suzuki GS150R bike, Aug-2010 model, done 39600 km on ODO. Always regularly serviced. I used to live in Pune, recently shifted to Mumbai.
I am having following difficulties on my bike

          1) For past 1 year, my bike draws constant 40-43 kmpl of mileage, it used to be 50+ earlier
          2) There is a lot of engine noise
          3) Original smoothness/thrust from bike is missing, low pickup
          4) Vibrations

I've tried almost all the Suzuki Service Centres in Pune, no luck, they always do the CO setting and it doesn't help. I always ride my bike in 55-60 kmph range.

I also did a Motul 15w50 engine oil recently and not the OEM from Suzuki, its giving me a bit of refined performance, but it still doesn't run as it used to be 1.5 years back.

I really love my bike, its a beast out there in 150cc segment, I want your expert advice and suggestion on a decent service point for Suzuki GS150R in Mumbai as I am new to this city.

          Cheers and Thanks in advance

Hello Everyone , how are you all and how are your bikes?

When I came back home after a month , and started my bike , its started very easily , choke and just one self. Changed the engine oil , Elf 10w 50 , as it is the only fully synthetic engine oil available in my city. Got a new spark plug , because my NGK iridium broke due to mechanic's carelessness while taking it out for cleaning .

Is some body facing noise problems from front calipers while riding its like tak-tak -tak..... It stops when I apply brake.

            Rest every thing is smooth.

Maybe the pads are rubbing hard on the disc as you ride and thus the sound. Or maybe the disc is bent.
              Hopefully its not that serious.

Another possibility is the loose, rusted or incorrectly placed brake pad spring in the caliper assembly which keeps the pads apart. Check that too.

                    Dear Naveen,
I too own a GS150R 2010 october model. Till now its fantastic ride. iam getting 48-52 kmpl. 3-4 months before i filled shell advance full synthetic oil and its giving amazing smoothness to the engine. overall good performance. I am riding in 50-80 kmph range according to my requirements. You have to insist on your service centre to find out the reason for your problems. You may also try changing in to Fully synthetic oil. All the best

                    ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

i too had similar issues, as if someone is strangling the engine, a dirty airfilter was the culprit. Changed it and now its normal

You might want to test the tuning using Mileage-Test-Can method available at SVCs. Ask them to ride the motorcycle with you as the pillion. Make sure they measure the petrol/gasoline using proper measuring-beaker.

                      Share the mileage thence noted.

Although I'm no expert - I think you are changing oil too early , you can run 20w40 mineral oil for 2000kms at least .
Now to answer your questions in brief 1) no 2) Shell ax5 and Shell ax3 3) excellent 4) oil / oil-filter change method should be given in details in your bike's owner's manual - please read that first of all .

I gave it to Authorized SVC yesterday

That sound is from the auto decompressor. Leave it as it is and keep the throttle slightly opened when you start the bike or adjust the idling rpm to about 1400 when the engine is warm.
For speed, check the condition of the clutch plates. But the maximum real speed one can expect on GS is not more than 105 or, at most, 110 kmh at 7500 - 8000 rpm.
