CONGRATTS...man pics pics pics...we need pics.....so the counter for GS owners move to????? no idea, inspite of regular request no one cares to participate in the roll call, atleast we can have an idea how many GS owners are there on xbhp, I think we were on 6....I will take bubbly as 7th owner......congratts again and dont forget to post pics......Originally posted by Bubbly View PostI got my bike yesterday
A black one
. I have not yet registered the bike. There is some problem in my RTO.. So cant cross 50km before registration
.
Let me give my opinion for the first 20km that i drove....
1) I attracted many on the road.... I mean my bike attracted everyone
.. People were staring at my bike at signals.
2)There is no problem with gear shift.. I think it will get more smoother after first service.
3) I filled my tank for 500 bucks.. (I didnt have cash to fill the tank and that petrol pump didnt accept cards
)
4) My mom loved the look of the bike... My sis said the tank was awesome and its the attraction of the bike
5) Even though the specifications say its heavy, i didnt feel it.... i was squeezing thru traffic easily...
After the registration i ll take my bike to office.. So i will have to travel around 45kms per day.....
Ok... here are my queries to the GS owners
1) I am riding the bike in 'eco' mode... Less than 50kmph ie below 3k rpm...
Is it ok to cross 50kmph at times before 1st service?
2)Do i have to go for additional seat cover(over the original one)? I feel the original cover to be very thin
3)The showroom guy asked me to use kick start every morning with choke... Whats ur opinion guys?
4) Do i have to ride in top gear most times to get a good mileage?
Thanks in advance
Now coming to your questions....
1) I am riding the bike in 'eco' mode... Less than 50kmph ie below 3k rpm...
Is it ok to cross 50kmph at times before 1st service?
It depends on the RPM but its ok to drive at 60, the RPM indicator would let you know the moment you cross 60
2)Do i have to go for additional seat cover(over the original one)? I feel the original cover to be very thin
Up to you entirly. but I'd say yes as even a slight cut can seriously damage the seat if not covered
3)The showroom guy asked me to use kick start every morning with choke... Whats ur opinion guys?
Yes very true, I would say not only in mornings, my suggestion would be............ every cold start should be done through kick.........

lol ......even a retard would know that, my point is ....does all GS owners have the same thing, that would confirm my GS does not have a mnufacturing fault.......Originally posted by shyam2666 View Postlocking lever below hendle need to be readjust/aline with hole

Congrats...
1) As stated, it is the RPM you gotta check and not the speed. But it is perfectly okay and in fact needed to cross that RPM now and then. The key thing is not to stay at higher RPM's for a longer time. Also, until your engine is run in, avoid sudden acceleration.
For better run-in you have to vary the speed of the bike at different RPM and in different gears than running the bike at a steady speed in one given gear.
The key here is 1) not to over heat the engine and 2) make sure the parts inside the engine mate with each other in a better way... A new engines moving parts will not be a perfect match with the other parts that they have to move along with and hence they need to settle down and because of this reason the heat produced in a new bike is higher.
2) Please go for a seat cover and make sure you go for a better one. Cheap covers not just tear off very soon but also produce a lot of heat under your bum, Since you have to run 45KMs one way, spend some money in getting a good seat cover. If needed, get one stitched with those people who make car seat covers... generally they'll have better material. This pain would be worth the 3-4 times more money you'd spend on the seat cover.
3) Kick start in the morning and say if the bike is stopped for more than 4-6 hours in colder climate... Do not forget to idle the engine for about 30 seconds and do not rip on a cold engine... Especially during run-in.
4) Check 1

I never knew i could lock it on the both sides.I used to lock on left side.you are right, you have to lift the handle a little bit to lock on the left side.Originally posted by sam9s View PostGuys the locking mech of GS......... you have to lift the handle a bit in order to lock on the left side.......but it locks cleanly on the right...is it same for all GS, need update, I called the dealer and he says its same for all GS.......bloody hell I didnt know that, recently only I realized I was locking on the right side all this time.........but I still wonder why its this way???????Last edited by Falgun; 04-18-2009, 10:47 PM.

mileage
what is the maximum mileage Gs has given.....?
i have completed 783 kms in 18 days,90% of distance covered on highways at < 60 km/h and < 5000 rpm.
My bike got in reserve when my ODO was showing 642 km.
I filled Rs 50 (1.16 ltrs) petrol to find mileage when my ODO was 692.
i again got in reserve on 725.
so i covered 83kms in 1.16 i.e 71.55 km/l.....!!!
i hope that's a correct way to measure Mileage.
I doubted myself at that figure.
I again filled petrol of Rs 50 when ODO was 735 kms and have completed 783 today, still not in reserve.
i think even ODO is not counting with that big error.
the show room executives told 60-65 on highways during purchase.
i am getting much more than that.
Can a 150 cc bike give such a mileage...?
waiting for next reserve.
Please correct me if i am doing it wrong way.Last edited by Falgun; 04-19-2009, 02:01 AM.

Relax you r driving at almost optimun settings so getting such a high avg. My first avg ws 67Km/l!!, but as I continued driving and increated the milage kept dropping, but now its stable between 52-56km/l depending on how I drive......and you are right this is the most fuel efficiend bike in the current lot today.......Originally posted by Falgun View Postwhat is the maximum mileage Gs has given.....?

@sam9s: hey sam im planning to buy my first bike. and im almost zeroed on GS150R. but i still have bit confusion between gs150 and FZ.
Can you please tell me what are the problems you have faced till now. I mean any issues with your bike?
And can you also let me know the summary, like
total amount spent on servicing,
total km done,
max speed,
max milage,
etc.
and can you please tell me what is the effect of headlight at night?. Is it ok, light up the road or ??? I am asking question because i will be doing night driving too. especially to bangalore to mangalore in the ghat section.
Thanks in advance

You are speaking about one of India's Busiest roads. The specialty here being that about 3/4th of the journey is through the vast expanse of The Western Ghats.Originally posted by sakumart View Postand can you please tell me what is the effect of headlight at night?. Both the headlights are good. At least, no less than any other bike in their segment or a segment one above. But, overall, I believe the GS makes a better case for you than the FZ. I'd tell you the same even if you'd have asked this Q in FZ's thread! I can try to list the reasons and can make a case study for you if you really cannot understand the reason for my suggestion... but at the moment am in no mood for that
For the headlamp, which generally is no where near sufficient, you might want to add a extra fitment to your leg guard.

Hey hydBiker,
Thanks for your reply. I have done the tour in my bro's P180 before and have faced problem. I was having the hard time to see the potholes on the road when any vehicle comes on the opposite direction. So i had asked the question.
Though i didnt test drive i did check the nike in showroom n i liked the black one.
I just wanted to know any specific problem faced by you guys till now. Any major or minor issues.
Thanks,
Santhosh

Basically on a highway at night even most car's headlamps are not sufficient the moment there is an oncoming vehicle with strong headlights or with headlights at almost your eye height (most lorry's, busses & SUV's). For bikes you go blind the moment there is any light ahead of you... can be just a Bajaj Chetak's headlight! Add to this the Helmet Visor.... that needs to be complete clean and scratchless.
Now, to add more lighting and to make sure that you can see the road at least to an extent while oncoming vehicles bling you, you can add a extra (aftermarket) light like those people add to cars, a good number of bikes and autos add... they will have a single strong beam from a small reflector and a good place to mount them is the leg guard.
HiSunil has got one on his Comet's handlebar. Saw many bikes with extra light(s) on leg guard... and some posh examples here - Motorcycle Driving and Fog Lights
oh, BTW, this is just gonna help a bit and is not gonna make things turn out like a day for you

@hydBiker: I use a technique while driving at night. Use the low beam and try to concentrate on the road ahead(i am not sure whether you understood) but it really helps me. the main problem comes when there is no enough light from the headlamp.
My bro's p180 had thins problem. We had hard time while driving at night.
So i asked you.
Ofcourse there are alternatives but my question is regarding stock headlamp.
Hey can you please tell me whether you had any issues with the bike till now?
Thanks,
Santhosh

I would suggest FZ ONLY if you cannot live without looks, I mean looks are at most important to you. else I feel GS is the one. The only points GS lacks behind FZ is 1. Looks and 2. 0-60 Pick up. Else GS leads in every aspect like Milage, Comfort, mid rande pickup etc are few to talk. I have not faced any serious issue yet but if you can scroll through few pages at the back you would come across few I faced but that would dependent on the user how he prioritize those...
total amount spent on servicing : 200 for the Oil and Air filter change (which would always be there in all free service)
total km done : 1800 till now
max speed : 115Km/h which was the max (check out my post before)
max milage : 67km/l but that was at almost ideal speeds, you can expect anywhere around 55 when you start driving it the usuall way......
Any more queries are welcomed....
