I don't know if I was doing it wrong, or was it the bike. I am very new rider.

As suggested above by fellow riders, start with chock and let it warm.
Do not engage accelerator while kick. Let it start and then then engage accelerator to warm up.
If you turn the accelerator while kick and bike will not start in that kick, then it might take some more attempt to start.

In real world conditions the mileage of hornet will be atleast 10 kms higher than segment leaders like gixxer or pulsar. Is that true ?

Not necessarily! Depends upon various factors. Mainly the riders, riding pattern, maintenance, traffic and weather conditions for all motorcycles you mentioned!

Can't say for sure but with my uncle like riding, I'd expect ~45-48ish in city and 50-55 on the highway.

P.S - I rarely go above 4,500 RPM (city) and 6,000 RPM (highways) on my moped. I don't use the clutch lever for anything apart from gear shifting. I don't use it in normal traffic, while climbing speed breakers etc. I switch off the ignition during long wait at a signal. Also, I don't accelerate in quick bursts, rather I prefer linear riding.

              I told you, uncle style!

I had to kickstart the bike 4-5 times to start it in the morning.
And it was very cold at early morning 4, though.
                Congratulations.some pics won't hurt.

It may be because of new rider because I too faced cold start issue but after knowing the correct way to kick start mentioned in manual my bike starts with one kick with or without choke.

                  Thank you.
Will upload pics, but I stay at a remote village at the moment, I don't have a proper network connection for time being. I shall upload pics after couple of days when I reach Manipal.
One thing I have noticed is that, the bike looks a lot more fleshy than a usual 150cc air cooled motor in real than in photos, be it the tires, the tank, the front. 😀

Yaa, I have to yet get the user manual, have to get it tomorrow. The showroom people had forgotten it seems. Currently I just try to keep it below 4000 rpm.

4 days have passed since my ride has come home! Out of which, one day, I had to keep my hornet inside garage because I didn't get the complete documents on time. And 200+ kms have already been done!
Here I am attatching few images!

Idk where to ask this but why is the Hero HX250R thread closed and is there any other thread for it?
Cause now there's word that the production ready model would be launched at the Auto Expo.

It wasn't me who commented about kill switches being offered by any specific showroom.

Which seat cover, you are using?
When I got the bike, dealer didn't had the seat cover for Hornet.
I am looking to get a seat cover. Is there any way I can add some extra thickness in thigh region?
                              How about Mesh seat cover?
