Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Hey guys!
I'm riding my new hornet since past 5 days. I'm facing some issues with changing the gears. Gear change has gotten smoother since the first day. But I'm facing a lot of issues while shifting the gear down. It's getting stuck if I try to shift down multiple gears. I need to sometimes slightly release the clutch for the get to sit right. Also, I've seen it go to neutral multiple times when switching from 2 to 1 and 1 to 2. As I'm a newbie to driving a bike, I totally loose confidence over this in traffic.
Please help!

I too face the exact same issue. I'm used to driving an automatic scooter. I feel completely taken aback when the engine breaking happens. Although, I'm sort of getting used to it now.Originally posted by ZZR1 View PostYou seem to have done a lot of the repair/maintenance work yourself, which the SVC centres would have missed

My riding style is similar too. However, while riding the hornet i am facing a peculiar problem with the gearing (considering the gearing). For example, i am forced to ride at 10 kms on the second gear in crawling traffic since downshifting to 1st leads to massive engine braking, jerks to pillion etc. Of course, releasing the clutch very slowly helps to an extent, but in this crazy traffic thats a luxury with vehicles squeezing through gaps (hand not faced this problem with other bikes).

That's the only solution!Ride hard, Ride safe! :D

Yup buddy. It's been 6700+ now, fast downshifting doesn't work if you break at the same time.Originally posted by nsp92 View PostThats really disappointing [emoji17]
Best way to adjust speed and gear so no such locking issuesRide hard, Ride safe! :D

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
But why does it even get stuck? This never happens on the bike which I used for test driving.
It literally gets stuck unless I release the clutch slowly to test which gear it's in 😑 Sometimes the bike switches off as the gear wouldn't have changed.

Same happened to me..... I adjusted the throttle response. ...what I did is took a ride of 12 km and then adjusted my idle.. my average has returned to 55 kmpl and no lag in pickup.Originally posted by Venuinturi View PostGuys need a little help here, just recently done my second service the first 3 weeks after service was fine but after a week gap when I am driving the bike I started feeling lack of pickup and there is a little vibration observed in the handle section. And the worst part is mileage dropped from 55 to 45
Anyone with this kind of an experienced.

What is the idle rpm that you set to rectify the issue ?Originally posted by Abhitosh Ghongade View PostSame happened to me..... I adjusted the throttle response. ...what I did is took a ride of 12 km and then adjusted my idle.. my average has returned to 55 kmpl and no lag in pickup.

I had the same problem. I don't know how but my gears are now smooth but not so smooth and I can even down from 5th to 2nd all of a sudden without getting stuck.Originally posted by nsp92 View PostBut why does it even get stuck? This never happens on the bike which I used for test driving.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
That's tricky question. The new consoles don't show rpm least count. I mean all u see is a bar. There are 4 bar I suppose between two counts say 0 to 1 each saying x1000 rpm . So 1 means 1000 rpm which is 4 bar that makes 1 bar as 250 rpm.Originally posted by Venkatesh Prakash View PostWhat is the idle rpm that you set to rectify the issue ?
Now here is the trick. Engine idle is 900 to 1200 rpm.Every engine has its optimal idle which lies between said rpm. To be precise it may be 980 rpm or 1101 rpm but we are unable to set it as console doesn't show and every time u adjust u do it by feeling which is technically wrong.
Idle vary engine to engine from factory itself . It's not much at start say 950 for your and 980 for other purchaser . Eventually because of these digital nuisance it fluctuates as per ride style, engine wear etc.

Alright.Originally posted by vimesh View PostI tried using colgate with the micro fiber cloth but it did not helped... can you please elaborate what is WD40??? I am a complete noob in this regard... i took the pic with the iPhone 6s but somehow the image gets compressed here while posting...it really looks ugly in person as half of the speedometer is covered with scratch & could not see rpm till 4000....
WD40 is multi-purpose spray.
Its helps loosen the jammed up nuts amd bolts , rust remover till some extent, can be used to clean the chain ( not lube ) & has many different uses. People all around the world uses it for different purposes. I've seen some people using it to remove minor scratches from the paint which is just on the clean coat.

So you might wanna buy this and try it out. You can get it for as cheap as 70rs for a smaller one which would just be enough for your job. You can buy it from hardware shops or even few biking stores have it.

Set the idle rpm to 1000+ rpm when cold and warm up the engine properly before riding so that it does not stall.Originally posted by nsp92 View PostBut why does it even get stuck? This never happens on the bike which I used for test driving.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Guys its my long term review of the bike after riding for almost an year clocking 9000 in ODO. I can say it has more of cons than pros
Here are my views (mostly negative)
1. headlight is horrible.
2. vibrations soon after few mins of ride.
3. won't fit for city traffic and also for highway as well. Its more of a uncle's bike who rides always in the range of 40 to 60.
4. just 2 services and 6 complaints to asc about some or the other issue (even asc guys are pissed off with me and my bike).
5. my suspension got damaged with 8000 kms, complained to asc. They said they will change with warranty. They did so but I don't feel they have changed anything, simply they cashed my warranty and returned my bike as is. they said suspension issues are common in hornet, any others have the same issues?
6. vibrations all the times.
7. short lower gears in city traffic makes you feel like throwing the bike on the road and catch a ola or uber.
8. Not at all value for money.
9. I would suggest not to go for hornet (regretting for buying this bike every day when I see it).
10. I do clean my chain, get it adjusted in a timely basis, still that jerks and rough behaviour.
Final verdict : Its just a scrap from honda to loot people
