Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Great points bro. Same situation with me.Originally posted by meeraj_xplore View PostAlso for me it's been more than a year now, clocked about 8200 in ODO
Below are my views (Also mostly negative)
1. Poor electronics (Instrument console)
2. Extremely poor Headlight
3. Poor paint on suspension and other metal parts (already getting rusted)
4. Facing major problem with the engine, contacted almost 4 to 5 times at ASC (They just changed the "Chain Tensioner" covered in warranty) which unfortunately didn't make any difference (Also let me know if anyone is interested in knowing the problem in detail)
5. Changed the oil from mineral oil to FS (Mobil1 10w 40) thinking this might change my engine issue, which didn't!
6. Very bad low end, can barely hit 10-15km/h on the 1st Gear
7. Also don't think the carbon fibre styled body parts would last much longer (They fade with time and eventually you would end up buying new parts straight away) even after regularly applying dashboard polish (3M Dashboard dresser)
8. Problems with the chain being excessively loosening frequently
9. Very small capacity of the battery (4Ah) which will limit the customisation game for some enthusiasts
10. Also needs to frequently clean the disc brakes (mainly the Rear ones).
Out of frustration I installed auxiliary lights, you can check pics in one of my previous posts.
Didn't change engine oil yet, but will switch to Honda FS only.Ride hard, Ride safe! :D

If you are used to riding an ungeared scooter, the engine braking will catch you offguard and feels very irritating. The engine braking is compounded by the fat rear tyre which is actually compounding the braking traction.

I am a noob at this kind of repair work/diagnosis. Could you please let me know where you got the machining done? By any chance are you from Bangalore. if yes, will meet and seek advice on this.Originally posted by iamkrazee View PostWow, thank you for pointing out my stupidity
. I did not take the "before" photo. Also, in a rush of emotions, I bent the plate and threw it in the garbage. So even the pic of the removed plate is out of question. I can, however, share the "AFTER" pic. Could you please help me by posting a "BEFORE" photo of your own bike? I'll quote that message and reply with my version.
I just need a close up of rear wheel sprocket which has a feeble sheet plate attached with 3 plug-welds. Pretty Please

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
After completing my 1st service the sound of the engine has changed & performance has become bassy.... after driving close to 1500 kms i feel i made a right choice choosing hornet over gixxer although the latter was cheaper by around 5000/-Originally posted by vimesh View PostAs far as my observation goes... the roughness starts when you try to acclerate very hard but what i have seen is if you let the bike warm up initially before starting early in the morning & ride around 5kms without accelerating hard you can get smoother ride.
This is my observation & mine is 1700 kms on the odo... others can share their opinion so we can get a clear idea how exactly this bike behaves .
If you are an enthusiast then hornet is not going to please you at all since its half commuter type & half sporty type.
But if you want practicality , good pilion comfort good after sales support & good breaking of course & then a stable highway ride then go for hornet without giving second thought.
I personally have nice experience of honda after sales support in my city & also have a good rapport with sales consultant as well as chief mechanic.
We also own 2 activas of my sister so all the vehicles at my home are from honda ( maybe the reason i went for hornet over gixxer)
Gixxer has its own set of issues & hornet has its own... its upon you that what you want from your bike & the set of issues which you can compromise upon.

Yea bro .... as soon as i saw the scratch disappearing my smile was back....Here in india the people are like clawns & mannerless you never know what they gonna do with your bike once you park it & go away...Originally posted by Anupam Das View PostThank God! You are smiling again. Thanks Honda. Be careful while parking the bike.
If they see that your bike is in good condition then they will try to make damage & in the process they get wicked joy for doing the same.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Sorry I haven't been able to find time to get a "before" pic. Although I have found a friend with same problem and same bike. I've taken a pic of his bike's sprocket. Later I'll take a pic of my bike and post them both. Once you take a glance at both, you'll know exactly what to do. Any fairly equipped garage would have a grinder, to achieve this result. Labor charges shouldn't be north of a hundred bucks.Originally posted by ZZR1 View PostI am a noob at this kind of repair work/diagnosis. However, just to confirm with your diagnosis, are you getting a loud screech/rattle/clatter/metallic-resonance? I was able to hear the sound at:
1) Engine off, bike on paddock stand, wheels moved by hand.
2) Bike rolling, in neutral or in gear but with clutch depressed
3) Bike rolling in gear normally, sound is present but not prominently audible for the rider.
- However when a friend rode(me not on bike), I could hear that sound from 500mtrs afar.

Thanks.
The sound is a kind of mettalic resonance as though there are a few loose parts in contact with each other ('clang...clang...). In fact i had complained to Honda on a few occassions and the service center diagnosed this as a fault with the 'balancer shaft' and replaced the part under warranty only for the sound to promptly reappear.
I have rode 5-6 hornets and atleast 3 of those had some of sound emanating (which appeared to be from the chain). Perhaps you seem to have go the diagnosis right.
BTW which city do you live in?
