Go for Honda Throttle 100% synthetic engine oil which should be easily available at authorised service centres. I have been using it since first servicing and I have managed to touch 113 kmph once,112 kmph twice, 110 kmph many times on 4 lane NH 31 riding single, I weigh 76 kg.

One should wait for at least till 3rd service before using fully synthetic oil. As read somewhere on xBhp, let engine get tuned to your riding style. Synthetic oil will help after 8/10k km mark.

I've done 6700 with mineral oil. I'll switch to FS oil after 9k once my current oil needs replacement..

Top speed won't necessarily improve with FS oil but engine response and behaviour would improve. I'm able to touch 115-120 with mineral oil.

But it's better if you don't cross 110 very frequently as bike gets very stressed above 110. You can maintain 80-100 all day long, no issues.
Based on my experience of many long rides 300+ km..

If i am correct it has to be at 12000 KM, please correct me if i am wrong?

And what are the things to be checked during the third Free service?

              Hey buddy.
I did all 3 services as it's been more than 1 year since I got bike. Just check the page behind 3rd service for all details.

I have also gone through similar views earlier as mentioned by you. But I noticed that the used engine oil had become much thinner, with almost no viscosity, watery during first servicing. Engine used to be much hotter but no such issue now, it is much smoother now. Also there is no black deposit (soot) inside exhaust till now. I think that lower top speed of 113kmph I have got is because of fully synthetic engine oil as the engine has not opened up much as compared to mineral oil. I had Unicorn earlier where Honda mineral oil was used but by 60000 km the volume of used engine oil went reducing and soot formed inside exhaust pipe and the bike crossed 1,13,000 km (before I sold it) but I had to top up the engine with engine oil every 1000 km. I used to maintain my Unicorn myself apart from some works at ASCs. I feel my Unicorn would have been in much better condition had I used fully synthetic engine oil. Now have taken a different approach and want to see how beneficial fully synthetic engine oil is and till now it is very good.

Thanks Anupam for sharing your views and experience with Honda Unicorn. As per your experience if Unicorn needs Synthetic oil then Hornet sure does!

If that's the case, I'll surely fill synthetic oil next time, as it's just been 1.5 k since I filled up with mineral.

Let us know when engine opens up with Synthetic oil and your experience..

Sure bro. Also clutch plates on my Unicorn were not changed even though the bike was nearing 1,14,000 km mark.

Also the balancer in my case dint help and they changed piston cylinder and other stuffs. Basically I got a new engine and had to again follow the rules for 1k km

Balancer was replaced under warranty. However, the grinding sound still persists although not as much as it was earlier. The manager refuses to accept the issue is still there. Need to again escalate to Honda.
Don't think its an engine issue in mine. Other than the sound issue there is no loss of power, pick up etc.

Good to hear that ! Did the vehicle undergo a re bore? If the vehicle has run 114000 k's without a re bore it is a sign of a fantastic vehicle and good maintenance.

Did you get the vehicle serviced at the SVC or through a local mechanic.

Any one having experience with 140/60 Michelins. Planning to go for the Fz size at the replacement time since the stock tyres seem to be putting pressure on the chain. Perhaps the smaller size tyre will aid in initial acceleration too.

Guys, please help me with this.
My second service is due in next month. Presently using Honda stock mineral oil. Planning to switch to Shell Ax7 10w40 semi-synthetic oil. I am expecting to clock upto 2800-2900 kms. in total till second service. Presently it is 2200 kms. I live in Rajasthan, so, the temperature is too hot out there, especially in summers. Is it advisable to switch to semi-synthetic oil too early ? Please help me with my decision. Cheers !!

No, it was not rebored. It was mostly serviced by me and occasionally at authorised service stations for jobs like front shocker oil change/overhaul, drive chain/sprocket change, oil filter cleaning etc. But tappet clearance check/adjustment, drive chain adjustment, air filter cleaning/change , oil change, battery servicing, cylinder head gasket replacement etc.were all done by me. Although the bike clocked 1,14,000 km approx. it could still go over 105 kmph easily. But it used to consume engine oil a lot, emitted smoke. As I mentioned earlier fully synthetic engine would have kept the engine in a better condition, I feel.

You can safely switch over to the ax7 10w40. That would be a better grade for Rajasthan temps.
Another choice is motul 5100 or 7100(if you want to go fully syn)
