Regarding hard gear shifts keep changing gears frequently it will smoothen up soon
Thanks for your reply.
But I keep changing the gears frequently, but even after 3200Kms, I'm still facing this issue.

Ohk,
Thanks for the confirmation.

Tyre pressure in the range of 30& 40 will be an overkill & ride quality will go for toss... suspension setup of hornet is already on the firmer side so watch out for the backpain if you continue to fill 30&40

Ok.

Any suggestions on how to best handle the bike in heavy traffic? [emoji28]

First two gears just make a lot of sound and don't help that much. If I switch between third to second gear at around 25-30kmph, engine braking feels horrible.

Any advice to drive the bike in a smooth manner is appreciated!

Has anyone tried to change to a 140/60 section tyre? Should decrease the strain on the chain .

This is my way of riding the bike in heavy traffic as my daily ride is about 60-70 kms

1st gear goes upto 12km/h & 2nd goes upto 22km/h without the engine getting rough & 3rd goes upto 35km/h.

So looking into all those figures i mostly drive in 2nd gear in crawling city traffic & once the road clears i switch to 3rd... i never stretch the throttle in traffic ( uncle style). This helps somewhat in warming up the engine to some extent. In city traffic one has to constantly change gears between 1st & 2nd thats how the gearings are placed in hornet.

Many a times i pickup from the speed of 18km/h in 3rd gear just to avoid downshifting to 2nd gear. Following above method i get smoother ride with hornet. One big downside for hornet is lack of ingear acceleration unlike gixxer but that is also a blessing in disguise due to following reasons

1. Low end torque is weak due to that no frequent issue of chain getting loose( yamaha fzs2.0 suffers from that due to high low end torque)

2.Hornet builds up speed gradually which helps you in getting a good economy( fz fi & gixxer gives not more than 45km/l both have good initial pick up.
My hornet gives 55kmpl) if you choose not to rev it hard which i do to get smoother ride.

3. I rev the engine hard that too gradually only in 4th & 5th gear on highways which helps in talling the 3rd gear.

My suggestions are don't fiddle with 1st & 2nd gear too much & just don't accelerate very hard & be gentle on the throttle if you are riding in city mainly.

P.S : These are my observations for smoother ride based on my riding style & it may differ from person to person.valuable inputs from seniors are welcome if there is something wrong with the above.

I usually rev the engine in the second gear upto 30kmph. So, probably that's why it becomes a little uneasy. I've also seen the engine stall/wobble if I ride in higher gears for long. So, it's a tough choice sometimes.

Will try the method you suggested and get back with my observations.

Rev the engine upto 22kmph only till 2nd gear & then upshift ... same goes for 3rd gear till 35kmph & then upshift....

I follow the same method for my hornet ... Do tell your experience after trying it out.

You will not get the accleration like gixxer & fz but torque is available.

I am facing loss of pressure issue in front tyre very often than rear tyre, checked the tyre for punctures none found.
What might be the reason.?
I ensure the front has 26 and rear is at 30 PSI but due to some reason after 3/4 days I feel pickup is dropped and doubtfully when I check tyre pressure, front would have lost 3 to 4 units and come to 22 from 26 but rear would still be fine with 28 /29.

Hey Guys,

My Hornet is about 4 months old and have crossed 1170km.The engine is making a surrrr or chhurrrr type of additional noise on top the usual knocking sound. The mechanics at service center say there is no sound, though I point out this is the one I'm talking about. What is the issue with the sound? I will guide them to fix that if you can tell me the reason behind that surrr sound.

And most importantly, the engine is heating up a lot when I ride it at 2-8 km/h, in very busy roads. Last time, I had to ride it this way for 15min, and it heated up so bad I had to stop. Also there was a weird rubber-burning sort of smell I got. But the moment I stopped it was gone.

Also my gear (neutral to 1 to 2 to neutral) is very stiff, even after 1100km. Should I ask to change it?

I would really appreciate your help. Thanks.

When did you had your first service done?? Did you changed the engine oil during your first service??

Regarding noise from the engine its difficult to identify until you hear it in person

Thanks for replying.

I had my first service in 384km - exactly a month after buying.

The engine oil was replaced by 10w30 - the cbr150 one - costed 690/-

The noise is a continuous shurrrr type of sound - sometimes feel like something is loose, or like a uneasy friction on chain or belt (imagine a rubber belt whirling on a drive) going on. Any idea?

and what about this heat up when moving very slowly (it engages a lot of clutch)?

.
If there is no puncture and pressure drop is frequently then there might be issue of leak from side tyre and rim contact. Get it checked. Mostly happens on dusty roads. Mechanic will open the tyre, clean it with file and put it back.
I keep the pressure 30/32. Front tyre looses more than rear. This explains the pressure on front is more than rear.
Keeping too high pressure 30/40 or 35/40 is not advisable, this is too much and will give you very stiff suspension.

For low speed range for 1st and 2nd gear -
Try to drive stretch on 1st and 2nd gear, engine will make extra noise in beginning but will eventually get smoother over time.

I did my first service at 900 kms & changed the engine oil & i was charged 310/- for the same. Why your engine oil seems to be different??

Regarding engine noise the only noise i hear from the engine is a grinding type of noise when i leave the throttle i.e . Engine breaking.. barring that i dont hear any noise ... maybe Abhik1 in this blog can understand much better.
