Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
For drag racing you would need to tune the carb and may be play with the jet size that would help also check out k&n filter and may be iridium spark plug.Originally posted by leech View PostFor drag racing on private roads/ Max acceleration, shift at redline.

😑 I'm not gonna race. But on free highways, I would like to now and then enjoy drag race like acceleration. Tuning the carb, yes I would like to do(if only I knew how to) for cold starting issues. I'm asking about the skillful shifting, if any, that maybe required....Originally posted by Abhik1 View PostFor drag racing you would need to tune the carb and may be play with the jet size that would help also check out k&n filter and may be iridium spark plug.

Easiest way should be sprocketing . if you want more acceleration you can use bigger front sprocketOriginally posted by Suddy View Post😑 I'm not gonna race. I like that idea. Why didn't it ever pop up before in this thread?Originally posted by Motomonster View PostEasiest way should be sprocketing . if you want more acceleration you can use bigger front sprocket
But take for granted that I'm right now at the extremities of miserliness, so with respect to shifting, how should I improve on that?

Check the manual for max power and shift at that rpm. This yields max acceleration since the engine runs within powerband.Originally posted by Suddy View PostI like that idea. Why didn't it ever pop up before in this thread?

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
I thought torque causes acceleration. Shouldn't I be shifting at max torque. Max power is at 8500rpm, but people say that I should shift at redline which I don't understand....Originally posted by John P Daniel View PostCheck the manual for max power and shift at that rpm. Btw, if brake power = 2πNx torque/60000(in kilowatts), how is it that max torque and max power occur at different speeds? Is it because the product of rpm and torque is highest at 8.5k rpm? Just getting my concepts right....😋

Read this thread fully bro. It should be helpful in understanding certain concepts and terms.
Torque can be explained easily as acceleration or push generated. Power is the total output by the engine. Torque raises along with rpm and reaches peak at max torque rpm. Beyond max torque rpm, torque actually falls gradually. But rpm increases and hence power keeps increasing. Check torque, power vs rpm(aka dyno graph) on Google to easily understand this concept.
The reason to shift at redline or max power(depends on engine) is max acceleration is obtained within the powerband of an engine. In general it ranges from max torque to max power though tuning engine can vary the powerband. Remember, drag is not only about acceleration but also top speed and this is where power comes into play. This is why shifting at redline or max power is recommended.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
So if my bike's powerband ends at 8.5k rpm, then by shifting at 9.5k rpm , which is redline, I should be losing a tad on acceleration....? 🤔Originally posted by John P Daniel View Posthttp://www.xbhp.com/talkies/showthread.php?t=5042

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
It depends on the engine's tuning. Feel the bike accelerate it's way through the rpm and you'll find the optimal powerband. For example, bullet loses its power rapidly beyond max power rpm whereas an r15 can power it's way beyond it's max power rpm. Each engine is different. Feel the ride and it will tell where it's best.Originally posted by Suddy View PostSo if my bike's powerband ends at 8.5k rpm, then by shifting at 9.5k rpm , which is redline, I should be losing a tad on acceleration....? 🤔

Honestly, after 6k rpm with my helmet and the heck lot of vibrations, I really can't feel any difference....🤐Originally posted by John P Daniel View PostIt depends on the engine's tuning. Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Hey guys! Greetings from the Himalayan land of Nepal. I've been lurking around the forums for a few months and finally decided to sign up. Got my bike almost 3 months ago and its due for its 2nd servicing tomorrow. Will post about the experience soon.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Update:
After my recent accident, I have dropped off the bike to SVC and claimed for insurance, which was granted and SVC says the process of repairing will take 15 to 20 days as parts reqd. for changing are not in stock. So waiting with fingers crossed.
