Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Hah! Hi5 fellow city mate! The heat is getting really serious here, and this is coming from a person who's from extreme North.Originally posted by iamkrazee View PostSo either that's a coincidence or we live in the same city! And we do.
But on a serious note, what do you think is the most neutral figure of viscosity (available commercially) ? What oil do you use?
20w50 is obviously going to trouble us in the winters when temperature is around 7 deg. 0w40 is not good for our summers. It gets high sales volumes because the Europeans and the Japanese use that, and we just follow them without understanding their seasons.
Well to be honest, I never played around with any non OEM engine oil since my CBZ-xtreme times(that was 9 years back). My last bike FZ-16 ran very happily of then SS 10w40 Yamalube(which was made by Motul then) and R15S runs really well on the same grade FS oil (now made by Tidewater). If you remember last year's May-June summers, I had just bought the R15S then and it ran awesome calm, composed and cool in city traffic with the same 10w40 even in 40+ temp's almost daily for a few weeks. But, hey its a liquid cooled motor so that helps as well. ;-)
Other than outside of what I've owned and used, generically, I don't find myself knowledgeable enough to preach anything related to the engine oils. If you see the threads here, shockingly the behavior of same engine oil varies with different people owning same bike, its so uncertain. That's why I don't muck around with it.
I might change this behavior coming months once the warranty expires and I'll be free to experiment. :-)
Send him to my native(both Raj. and J&K) and his butt will get bipolar. On a funny side of that, I know a guy who was bragging about the seat warmers in his European car. Lives in our coastal areas
.
Regards.

Great post!Originally posted by anoopkumar0 View PostNormally, people change to FS at 6-8K ODO.
For new bike nothing special just drain completely and fill FS. Some people use engine flush and then change to FS
Please post the pic. But yeah, In a year, some rusting I have seen on my tank but it stopped and didn't spread to worse.
.
Chain clean and lubrication should be done at 500Km as suggested.
You can get Motul Chain clean and Lube, trusted and very popular: Motul C1 Chain Clean (400 ml): Amazon.in: Car & Motorbike
Motul 102981 C2 Chain Lube for Bikes (400 ml): Amazon.in: Car & Motorbike
These two cans will lots 3-4 clean and lube cycle.
See some of videos like this
My way of Chain clean and lube:- [Chain Cleaning] I have clubbed chain clean + bike wash + chain lube
- Spray chain clean properly.
- Use chain brush (Otherwise old toothbrush will do the same), clean the chain as suggested in video.
- Left the bike for few minutes.
- Wash bike as you do. If you are washing at mechanic,
- Start the bike and put in 1st gear
- Ask wash guy to use pressure jet on chain for a min.
- It will wash out the chain and I don't think mechanic will charge extra for it.
- After wash let the water drain from everywhere (10min), use a cloth (Old napkin/towel) and clean the chain.
- [Chain Lube] Start bike and put in 1st gear.
- Spray chain lube as suggested. I spray for around 30 sec (make sure chain get lubed properly). And leave bike as it is.
Chain cleaning is must to job. Bike ride will become great after a good chain clean and lube.
My humble request not to start bike while cleaning or lubing chain. It poses fatal risks!Ride hard, Ride safe! :D

Agree, definitely not while cleaning. It may chock cleaning brush or cloth. Pressure jet would be fine just like heavy rain and safe distance.
However, while lubing I lube from side and safe distance.
I will edit the post.

I have Combi-Break. Yes, front wheel is heavy to rotate, not fluid. If I rotate it get stopped after a while like something is biting.
Whereas, after chain clean and lube this time, my rear wheel is totally fluid to rotate by hand.------------------

Re: Long ride experience with hornet anyone?
Hi numberplate,Originally posted by numberplate View Posti Know hornet is not a tourer, unlike Gixxer SF or AS 150( thats wat bajaj says.) has anyone gone on long rides? what are your experiences, modifications done, precautions taken , extra accessories used..etc..
I got to ride my friend's hornet for trip between Pune and Mahabaleshwar, total 300 kms covered in a day. Bike's seat is comfortable for both rider and pillion and Hornet feels planted on highways.
I was touring around 80kmph for most of time and engine was quite happy as gearing is on taller side.
One concern is that you have to give the engine some beans for overtaking. Engine is tuned to give power in higher RPM's which is fun on highways, but definitely a problem in the city.
Bike is stock without any modifications. However, the headlamp is inadequate for highway rides. Also, I was not very happy about the suspension as it is on the stiffer side. Potholes give a jerk to rider and pillion's back. The stock horn seems to be bought from Activa.
Hornet is a good bike, but my money will go for a Gixxer.
Thanks

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Has anyone used Shell Advance AX7 semi-synthetic or the Advance Ultra fully-synthetic engine oils? How has your experience been?
Which among the two would do good on the Hornet?Last edited by gaurav71189; 04-01-2017, 12:01 PM.

Yes, am using ax7 right from the first oil change and bike feels smooth at 70-90 speeds when compared with 10w-30 mineral oilOriginally posted by gaurav71189 View PostHas anyone used Shell Advance AX7 semi-synthetic or the Advance Ultra fully-synthetic engine oils? How has your experience been?

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Sounds good. Thanks for the info. I believe the grade is 10w40? Hope that doesn't affect in a negative way since the suggested grade is 10w30 for Hornet.Originally posted by ramprasadkamineni View PostYes, am using ax7 right from the first oil change and bike feels smooth at 70-90 speeds when compared with 10w-30 mineral oilLast edited by gaurav71189; 04-01-2017, 11:02 PM.

10W40 works fine. No issue with it. I am on Motul.------------------
