Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Friends, need a little help. I have bought the bike 6 months ago but due to lack of knowledge of how to take proper care of bike I haven't done any maintenance to the chain. And today I have taken the bike to service centre and was advised to get the chain cleaned and lubed. Which he charged me 100 rs. After that I found the running of the bike super smooth. Can this be done by ourselves if so at what frequency should this be done.

They may have tightened the chain. Which we can't do without expert's help.Originally posted by Venuinturi View PostFriends, need a little help. .
U can cleans the chain with diesel and lube it with old engine oil after 500-800 km.
Or buy a chain spray and spray it regularly..

So spraying the chain, is that same as lubing the chain??Originally posted by HariVox View PostThey may have tightened the chain. Which we can't do without expert's help.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
well I am done with my 3rd service, the bike is so responsive now..Originally posted by IamAditya View PostMost of the Hornet users are using FS oils and are having positive reviews.
I think you can switch to FS oil now, honda has their own FS oil, which is used in Cbr250, its called throttle something.
You can opt for that.
If sticking to SS 5100 oil Then 10w40.
Switched to Honda FS oil which they are using it for CBR.. will keep u all posted..
One thing.. sometimes when I am trying accelerate fast.. especially when upshifting from 3rd to 4th gear. Bike goes to neutral..
Has anyone faced this?

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Hi guys
Greetings from Costa Rica! Great forum you have here, congrats!
Over here the Hornet is known as CB160F (F instead of R) and we dont get the CBS brakes yet.
I bought my Hornet 2 weeks ago and I noticed the rust like cracks in the frame welds... I read in the first pages office this thread that the dealer said it was not rust, so what is that?
I also investigated in US forums and it happens with the bigger Honda bikes too...
I hope you can help me guys
Thanks

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Normally, people change to FS at 6-8K ODO.Originally posted by gaurav71189 View PostHow long before an oil change for the FS oil is suggested?
Also, any steps to be taken when changing from mineral to FS oil?
For new bike nothing special just drain completely and fill FS. Some people use engine flush and then change to FS
Please post the pic. But yeah, In a year, some rusting I have seen on my tank but it stopped and didn't spread to worse.Originally posted by Alexey View PostHi guys

Chain clean and lubrication should be done at 500Km as suggested.
You can get Motul Chain clean and Lube, trusted and very popular: Motul C1 Chain Clean (400 ml): Amazon.in: Car & Motorbike
Motul 102981 C2 Chain Lube for Bikes (400 ml): Amazon.in: Car & Motorbike
These two cans will lots 3-4 clean and lube cycle.
See some of videos like this
My way of Chain clean and lube:- [Chain Cleaning] I have clubbed chain clean + bike wash + chain lube
- Spray chain clean properly.
- Use chain brush (Otherwise old toothbrush will do the same), clean the chain as suggested in video.
- Left the bike for few minutes.
- Wash bike as you do. If you are washing at mechanic,
- Start the bike and put in 1st gear
- Ask wash guy to use pressure jet on chain for a min.
- It will wash out the chain and I don't think mechanic will charge extra for it.
- After wash let the water drain from everywhere (10min), use a cloth (Old napkin/towel) and clean the chain.
- [Chain Lube] Start bike and put in 1st gear. <Don't do it if you not confident to spray from distance. You can just rotate by hand lube the chain >
- Spray chain lube as suggested. I spray for around 30 sec (make sure chain get lubed properly). And leave bike as it is.
Chain cleaning is must to job. Bike ride will become great after a good chain clean and lube.
Edit: For safety reason don't start the bike while cleaning and lube.Last edited by anoopkumar0; 03-31-2017, 10:55 AM.------------------

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
The ambient temperature right now (where I live is) is already 41! I don't think it's an overkill.Originally posted by PrinceCruise View PostIts an overkill for this bike, a "literal overkill".

But come to think of it, FS of 20w50 will run through non-summer seasons too, which is like 10 months of the year.
So I guess I understand it when you say it's an overkill.

and he will not do anything to the brakes unless my wheels get locked.
Guys with CBS version please tell me if its really normal to have a tighter front wheel than other normal bike wheels with only front disc brakes. You can compare with your friends' non CBS front disc braked bikes with our CBS hornet's and let me know if you feel that difference in the free spin of front wheels.
Thanks in advance for that you gonna spend your time for checking this.

Guys, Haven't anyone checked or compared your bikes?

Hi, you're probably not getting answers because there is no quantifier for "very hard" nature of rotation of the front wheel.Originally posted by AntonyRinaldo View PostGuys, Haven't anyone checked or compared your bikes?
Also, to answer your questions, I do not have the CBS version but my wheel spin seems very smooth. I have a friend who owns the same model, he also doesn't seem to face this issue.
You said you made your observation in comparison with your friends' bikes. Based on that, could you establish a relation of hard-to-spin with CBS only? That is to say, could you verify what the mechanic told you?

So either that's a coincidence or we live in the same city! And we do.Originally posted by PrinceCruise View PostPS: it's 41 here as well, sucks.
But on a serious note, what do you think is the most neutral figure of viscosity (available commercially) ? What oil do you use?
20w50 is obviously going to trouble us in the winters when temperature is around 7 deg.
0w40 is not good for our summers. It gets high sales volumes because the Europeans and the Japanese use that, and we just follow them without understanding their seasons.
On a funny side of that, I know a guy who was bragging about the seat warmers in his European car. Lives in our coastal areas
