I mean we used alternator in our electronics labs for years without any breakdowns right .

This also makes me wonder, with high efficiency DC alternators, do we need rectifiers? Bajaj is already using this. Yamaha too but their spares are WAY too expensive - if you were to retrofit. Just sayin'.

I think my understanding from the above post is same as yours. A circuit diagram and details of modification I'll post later (maybe on the blog for better organization) after I gather the details.

Also, DC is only one of the two mods that I've done. The other being gear switch lever modification. I made the gear shifts super smooth.
What gear shift lever modifications did you make brother? Can you please share some pictures ?

I just increased the length by cutting the lever in half and adding an iron stick in between. The working principle is explained here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lever
In summary, longer the lever, less is the power required at its end.

Pictures are coming. A friend of mine has a Hornet, have to book his time to get a photo of his lever for comparo.

Guys, i have decided to replace my stock headlight with led as the throw is very bad.

Can someone share some links which are good headlight and compatiable one with Hornet.

I guess Anupam told he has done the headlight replacement, can you share the procedure and links where i can buy the headlight.

          Cheers!!!

            Hi All
Need a info about the brake oil storage section.
Recently the braking efficiency of the bike has been reduced (I have a CBS varinat) and I tried to have a look at the brake fluid inside.
I found that there is a internal rubber layer within the casing in both oil casing.
But when I noticed another bike in parking lot , I observed that the oil is visible clearly in the oil level indicator at front or rear.
It would be great if anybody who has already had a look inside the oil casing provide inputs.

Braking efficiency can reduce due to glazed pads or air in the braking system. Mostly, the lever would be "spongy" if there is air in the system. As the brake pads wear out due to use, the brake fluid drops in level. Now to prevent air from taking up the space, the rubber or the diaphragm would expand and keep the system free of air. That is why there are vents in the brake oil storage a.k.a. master cylinder cover.

If fluid is not visible through the glass window, its level might have fallen down. In any case, an almost-transparent DOT4 is difficult to spot than the colored DOT4/DOT3 fluid or the glass might have gone a little foggy.

How many kms has your bike done? Age of bike?

Get it checked with a mechanic and top-up (or) preferably replace the entire fluid with new one. CBS plumbing is a little elaborate - refill best done at Honda SVC.

If you're going in for a not-so-subtle modification, check out @vaRider's post below, this is the BEST THROW I've ever seen. Please visit that post, it has many photos, I'm just quoting one to avoid clutter.

Foggy glass is a nice catch You're right, its initially color is too clear. But no matter how clear the oil gets it's visible to the eye in bright light. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to have a level-checking window in the first place.

                      Hi Ashwath

Thanks for the response my bike is 1.1 year old and I have done 20K kms.

I got my bike serviced recently from ASC, after service the brake was OK but not best but after few days of service the braking efficiency is reduced,

to get the vehicle to stop I must apply lot of force and then, If a pillion is behind then the situation is much more worst.

I am feeling the brakes are Spongy as you have said above. I will try visit a local mechanic for inspection.

I have changed the headlight bulb to Philips Premium Vision halogen from stock Phoenix halogen. The result is somewhat good. But LED will require DC current/voltage. How to open the front cowl to change bulb you will get from YouTube/owner's manual. But it is tricky.

I got the bulb from local market. Cost me Rs. 140.00.

I am also using the same. It's better than stock one.
