IMP: Triumph tiger comes with factory fitted auxiliary. So it must be LEGAL in India.
And cars also come with fog/auxiliary.
From what I've gathered, vehicles are approved by some govt institution (ARAI?) before they commercially hit the road.
So all factory fittings are verified to comply to Indian roads norms.

By extension of this, adding anything that is not factory fitted could be deemed illegal. Which also goes to support what you mentioned in the excerpted quote. I think it makes a lot of sense.

Also, I'm sure the Dio guy (whose headlamp was broken by the cops) must've done something wrong to have the cops reach melting point faster. So bad lamp could not be the whole story by any means.

P.S.: On hindsight, should ARAI approve of such dim AC lights with unbranded filaments? The tech is ages old, and too few vendors now give lights of the same level as Hornet. Hell, Unicorn 160r comes with a DC light. Is Honda bullying the government institutions?

Unicorn 160 comes with AC powered headlight, the rest of the lights are DC.

I just checked friend's uni. It's DC. Or if it's AC, it's turning on without ignition. And on both beams.

I suspect your friend has modified the electricals, because a stock unicorn requires the engine to be running for the headlight to be on.

I owned a unicorn 160, and it had an AC powered headlight. Both the unicorns come with AC headlights. The pilot lamp/parking light is powered by DC but the main 35W headlight is AC powered.

Only the CBRs have a DC powered headlight.

He's saying he hasn't. Funny though, before I made my modifications, my high beam was on DC and low beam on AC. To make the matters worse, the 35W bulb is a local brand. And headlamp housing is so intelligently designed that I can spot owls in the trees better than I can see the road!

Well that's not possible because the low and high beams are from the same bulb and the same source. One thing to note is that above 2.5k RPM the light becomes constant.

Adjusting the beam helps in the owl matter.

Yeah, ARAI approves it. Once I had talk with Honda ASC service manager and Customer relationship manager.
They also said that it was approved by ARAI and no further OFFICIAL (in ASC) modifications can be done. Like 55W bulb, alternator etc.

Also I got to know almost all owners are frustrated about this peculiar headlight [emoji21]

I've just upgraded lamp to 60/55 Philips Vision. Changed from AC to DC with additional capacitors. Initial impression is very good, but definitely not at the same level auxiliary lights which are outstanding.
How did you changed from AC to DC, can you share the wiring diagram and things needed for the same? Just bought a LED Headlight to complete full LED MOD of the bike, but I'm yet to figure out how to convert AC to DC.

Hi Guys, I've started to observe a peculiar problem with the electrical system on my Hornet. I've had it for more than a year and all 3 free services have been completed.

At first, I noticed the headlamps dim randomly. During the dimming, even the backlight of the LCD display was dimming. There were moments when the LCD display was switching off and on. This was during the ride. At this time, the indicators too were behaving weirdly. The frequency of on-off of the indicators seem to have increased. Also during this dimming times, the horn was not on full power either, the sound was of lower intensity.

This is quite random, it doesn't always happen. During the morning when headlamps were off, I did notice the LCD display switch on and off a few times. But in the evening/night when the headlights were on, the dimming of lights and on-off of the LCD display and the lower intensity sound of the horn, were more frequent.

I've shown this to the ASC last week and they said they removed the dashboard section and everything seemed well, and to bring the bike in again if the problem persists. The problem did persist this week after the ASC visit.

There was one moment where I'd switched off the engine at a red signal, switching back on didn't switch on the LCD display nor could I use the auto start. After a few tries, it did switch on and I continued my ride.

Any ideas what the problem might be? Also, should I give another try at the ASC or get it checked elsewhere?

Yes, I do have the receipt. I has asked for chain adjustment and lubrication also last week. Only that item is present on the receipt. The electrical system check isn't.

I'm planning to go again to the ASC next Saturday as I won't be able to on any other day due to work. So, the next Saturday would be exactly 2 weeks after the time I went to ASC the last Saturday. Would the service be charged again?

Yeah, this problem I also face this with service centers. Had to visit multiple time to ASC.

They charge 150 for clean and lube with spay but chain cleaning is already in servicing. So better ask to clean only. Buy and spay yourself.
