Tell Honda svc to set carb to stock. What John P Daniel and nnagap72 said are absolutely right. The mechanics set the afr to lean for better mileage. Best symptom - RPM comes down slowly even though RPM goes up normally.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Guys,
Earlier I had posted here about the issue on my hornet, that it would vibrate abnormally at above 4000 rpm or when we try to get some power.
The vibrations are clearly felt on the handlebars and foot pegs.
Today, I showed the issue to a nearby service centre. They did a testride and came back to me saying that its a problem with 'cam balancer'.
They took the bike inside, did some adjustments(didn't saw what they did) and bought back the bike.
And the mechanic said that he did some adjustments and if the problem again comes back use fully synthetic oil. He said it will make the engine smoother and reduce heat up(so they think it will come back).
After the adjustments, the vibrations have reduced. And I feel the engine is a bit more eager now(they must have fiddled with carb settings).
But if the balancer is at fault shouldn't it be replaced under warranty?
Saw a post here on this thread, showing a bill, where the service centre replaced it under warranty.
Although the vibrations have reduced its not completely gone.
Should I reach them again?

speed must've been around 40 kmph dont know exactly. it was rainning heavily, and the pothole was surrounded by small stones which must've come out from it, thats what made me skid I am guessing.

I am facing exactly the same problem as pointed out by you, and many others on this forum. I got my vehicle on 8th Oct 2016 and the problems begin right from the day i got the vehicle. I have done around 400 kms till date.
Some of the problems faced by me are :
1. Bike takes atleast 20-25 kicks under a cold start. Using the choke to start the vehicle has become a habit.
2. Vehicle tends to heat up in the Bangalore traffic more so when it is on the first gear and is ridden at crawling speeds of 8-10 kms. Heat generated is as much as on the KTM 390.
3. Horrible vibrations at 4000 rpm even on the 5th gear (i have not exceeded this engine speed since its in run in).
4. A mettallic 'claang claang' sound is heard, which the mechanic told me was an issue with the balancer.
I had raised a complaint with Honda on their site, and the service center seemed to have done some make shift arrangement. The problems seems to have arisen again.
The first service is due on 7th October 2016. Hope the issues are sorted out.
My question to those who have used the vehicle extensively (say 6000-10000kms) : How was the vehicle in the beginning and what is the degree of improvement after the vehicle has set in?

These are typical symptoms of your engine running a lean air fuel mixture.Originally posted by ZZR1 View Post

Turn the mixture control screw on the carb by 1/4th rotation increments towards richer side (anticlockwise) and test it out.

I got my Hornet on 8th Oct 2016 and the on road price for the CBS model (with accessories such as seat cover, front fender etc) was 1.02 lacs, Bangalore. In a month's experience i am of the view that Honda seems to have got the gearing wrong for indian traffic conditions.
Given an opportunity to go back on the purchase i would probably look at the gixxer ( i have had good experiences with suzukis and their ASC) or even the Pulsar 200AS (albeit at a slightly higher price).
The bike is not hopeless. Just that it is not great either, and at the price point there are other alternatives depending on the factor you look at, be it power or drive ability.

Do you mean to say that overheating is also a symptom of a lean mixture. I had tried adjusting the air screw a few days after i got my bike, but did not get it right. I let the mechanic do itOriginally posted by Abishek94 View PostThese are typical symptoms of your engine running a lean air fuel mixture.

.
Anyway, will be leaving the vehicle for 1st service on Monday, and will discuss these with ASC.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Overheating is another problem that we have to deal with. All other problem like rpm going down slow when we let off the throttle, starts after engine heats up for a while(20 min). When asked the SVC guys told me to go for fully synthetic oil during the next oil change.Originally posted by ZZR1 View PostDo you mean to say that overheating is also a symptom of a lean mixture. Please update here after your service and do inform if they do anything with the 'balancer' thing.
Is it actually inside the engine? Can the adjustments be done from outside, without opening the engine cover?

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Is there any hope that the engine can become smooth...
Now I tuned it today as per lean setting mentioned to somewhat more fuel less air as quoted previously and it even become a lot harsh now...
Pickup is nowhere now..
It feels a lot tight on engine to push ahead..
And it seems suffering at every speed...
Please help if anyone can else I m going to sell it...

Get it tuned in the SVC. You may need trial and error. The bike is not bad.Originally posted by Ravii View PostIs there any hope that the engine can become smooth...

Given an opportunity I would have waited longer and would have purchased another 150-300 CC bike of any kind....Originally posted by ZZR1 View PostI got my Hornet on 8th Oct 2016 and the on road price for the CBS model (with accessories such as seat cover, front fender etc) was 1.02 lacs, Bangalore. Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
This is the first time I'm noticing the Carb tuning / AFR tuning problem with a 150cc bike so much so almost every other owner has this issue. I've owned only carb bikes before the current one and never had a single issue until the end of their lives.
Is this an inherent problem with the Hornet?
Regards.
