Brother the bike is having different character..
I love it very much and hate it also due to its engine,
I have completed 850 kms on the bike ..
Low end is missing...
After 3rd gear perfect ...
2 times I touched top speed of 103 and yesterday of 110 and still enough juice was there to gain more speed but it is linear and takes time...
Trying to mix with the character of the bike...
When I take it outside Gixxer,Apache ,Fz, R15 and even ktm owners stare at my bike and I stare at their bike..its funny sort of thing..
Thats it, Engine needs some more time to get smooth maybe 3-4 k kms....

Honda should improve several aspects of the bike...
>Engine mid range and low end punch.
>Better switchgear.
>Extra 6th gear
>Better instrument cluster.

All these changes will make Hornet the perfect bike ahead of its competition.
It have all things but not something..

I have ridden to average speed of 55-60 kph during run in period on open roads...
Please ride in the range of 40-50 kph..

It is a nice bike overall if u can adjust with some sorts of clups..

Grass always look greener on the other side. I am sure they have their own sets of worries. I did test ride on three hornets. The first one was exactly as you described the low end. But the other two I tried to rev a little bit more from the start, and at first two gears it gave surge of power, one of them actually jumped!! both were non-cbs and first one cbs. Do you think the character of this bike varies from model to model?? I mean you have to get lucky??

I tried gixxer and it was super fun, but I had to negate it due to its low round clearance (My city's road is horrible).

On improving the aspects of hornet, the first one honda will definitely do, but the question do they tune it better from one lot to the other (Dec lot better than Aug lot, lol). The rest three they are not going to do or if they do it will be some other bike.

Have you taken the bike to its top speed yet? Because the bike needs to be revved to high rpm occasionally, else when the need for speed arises, she will whine and gowl and give you bad vibes.

And those Splendor guys are revving the guts out of their bikes, why don't you try it for a change. Change gears near the redline, take the bike to a safe road and check your top speed. Because what you are doing is giving minimal throttle and expecting the bike to beat traffic. I heard the Hornet can do ~80 kmph in 3rd gear. Give it a try, you will stop complaining about power afterwards.

No I don't think so about variation in the lots, all bikes are treated same on the assembly line..don't know what the problem is....!!!

Complain arises only with the low end ...
The bike is having rev limit of 11 k rpm , if you increase the speed vibes are gone which are little only in low speeds...
I have touched 110 kph and the bike was stable and more power was still in my hands to clock it more maybe 120...
Achieving high speed takes time and you have to rev it harder to fast full throttle response and gear shifts...

The bike can carry on with 90+ kph all day..

----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Does the thump of engine changes when it revd on higher speeds of 60+ with some sort of odd sound ??

You're replying to my quote on 'vibrations' elaborating on the power. How's it even relevant? Secondly, I'm talking about 70-80 at 5th gear. What would that be? About 6k rpm? Now, if I were to take it to the redline at every gear, I'll be sacrificing whatever peaceful ride I enjoy as I shift below 5k rpm. Also, the bike will get too loud.
Plus my run in period is not yet over(well, according to manual, it's done, but according to many people here, it needs to run another 1k km or so), but I still tried reaching a 110, and unfortunately came upto only a 104 at full throttle.

This is the first time I heard someone complain that a Honda is too loud. Do other Hornet owners feel the same?

"Peaceful ride at 5k rpm." [emoji23]

Why buy a ₹1 lakh bike for peaceful riding? You got scooters for that, my friend.

Suddy every bike vibrates more in some RPM range. Go above 6k and see the difference. I agree about the low end torque and the first 2 gears (this seems to be a Honda trademark). Once in a while it's good to redline the engine, not all the time.

And about kickstarting the bike it's 100% the technique. I found it difficult to kick-start my bike while my friend would start the bike in a single kick.

If you're feeling that there's too much vibration coming from the handlebars, I suggest you change the bar ends to that of hero extreme/rtr and see the difference (it is noticeable).

Scooters ain't got much speed my friend, and I like manual transmissions better. You're cleverly taking only part of my sentence; my expectation is smoothness at 70-80. But since I'm not getting that, I said I didn't wanna sacrifice the same at lower rpms by ripping it off at every gear.
And some people have felt uncomfortable in this thread with this bike's"bassiness" at higher rpms

What technique? I don't understand that part.
The power stroke comes at every 2 revolutions, but my bike is stubborn that it won't start until it's had three full kicks. Yesterday i went for a ride and you wouldn't believe this. Every time I tried to start(whether it be at signals or at parking lots), it always took me exactly 3 kicks, no more, no less...😐

Yes the technique. Like I said I could never get it right (I was like you, could get it started only after 3-4 kicks), while my friend could. Read the technique in the manual and see if it helps.

Ok, so what does the manual say?
It says "lightly depress until resistance is felt". I feel the resistance and it doesn't depress that easily most of the time 😂.
And I'm supposed to do this every time I start the bike? 😶
Whenever I pull the choke, the engine shuts down. No use of choke in my bike.....

I don't know what my friend did that I didn't, but it worked. I guess his experience of kick starting an old 2 stroke scooter helped.

I hope you're not operating the choke when the engine is warm. Besides that the only thing I can think of is that you are running rich. Basically a choke is nothing but an enrichener (makes more petrol go in) so that the bike starts easily. If you're running rich, then too much fuel may go in and the bike may shut off.

Dude, whenever I operate the choke, it stops. Even when trying to start it after a few days. In that case, neither the normal kick-starting works, nor does the choke help. I mean it floods the engine every time?? In all this time, only once have I seen the choke work.
I wanna tune the carb. But don't know properly. Does anybody know?

Ask the Honda ASC to tune the carb back to stock and see if it solves the issue. Carb tuning needs experience and I took about 8-9 tries to get it right.

When warm choke is not at all needed and shuts off the engine.
