Look at the 9 and 10th character.Originally posted by vaRider View PostHi baymax

Mine is EG.
The 9th character represent month of manufacturing: my case E (5th alphabet) so its May(5 th month).
10 th character is year: must be G as it represents 2016.

Wish you could meet up with me as well, but alas we are very far apart.
Update: Changed to Motul 5100 semi- syn. and did a tappet adjust with my trusted mechanic. sound is still abnormal. but seems the roll on after trottle is closed is smooth. Before it used to jerk whenever trottle was closed. Like engine braking effect, but voilent.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
I am a happy customer. I just followed valuable inputs given by our members and manual. now the engine is smooth and powerful. the below two point are the most discussed and is character of this bike. which cannot be coined as shortcomings.
1) first two gears are shorter and has no powerful lower end punch.
2) Switch gear has nothing flattening but serves the purpose.
Headlamp is letdown but alternatives are available which will not void warranty.

Hi
I felt like my new bike was much smoother in the first 150km , post which I feel the engine has become rough and heats up easily . Also the sound is no longer that present . Got the 1st service done early at just 350km expecting a miracle but nothing helped so far . Would you mind sharing what helped getting your bike smooth and stress free. Also do suggest me a good headlight as the throw is terrible.
Thanks Bro

I Was in similar situation 1 month back,I hav done my first service at 191 km and that time the odo was at 2691 and bike is not smooth as it before. So I have decided to change engine oil with stock, also tight and lube chain. Now,bike is feeling smooth and stress free.
Current odo reading 3300
I would suggest you to change the oil,if you have run more than 1800~2000 km ,it will help

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
To much information about the ingredients spoils the actual taste of the recipe.
I am closely reading all the problems discussed on the group and then observe it on my bike and believe me when I read a issue here, I face the same issue on my bike. Be it loss in pickup or vibrations or no lower-end torque. The same issue does not exist when I forget about it and read about a new issue. Actually its only in our mind.
I purchased the bike in June 2016 and till now completed 2900 KMs. Bike has become smoother day by day. I feel like this engine ages a little slower compared to other bikes. So the things you expect at 1500 Kms, you will get at 3000 Kms and what you expect at 3000 Kms you will get it may be at 5000 Kms. I hope this will also be the case of overall life of the bike. My engine still responds sometimes as if it is a brand new one or is in engine breaking period.
Main problems discussed in this group and my observations are mentioned below :
1) Rusting : This issue was reported very frequently in early posts but now this is not there, so i believe that initial batch of the bikes faced this issue. I had a faced minor rusting as i used to leave my bike in rain, but a quick water service followed up by polish took the rust away.
2) Gearing pattern : Tall gears they say..I dont know the meaning of tall gears but on my bike I feel that the bike can only be driven till 15KMPH on 1st gear, 2nd gear can range from 6-25 KMPH and 3 gear from 20-50, 4th can take us till 65-70 and 5th more than that without much growling. This I feel is good when I almost in dead stopping position I use gear 1 and I dont want to exceed 15 KMPH. For slow moving traffic I use 2nd gear as it can range from 6-25 KMPH. This bike even can start from stand still on 2nd gear but now I am not using it as advised by many members in the group. For most of the city ride 3rd and 4th gear are sufficient as it can take till 65. fifth gear i am mostly using on highways and open roads where I peaked till 90. Till now i had not tried the max speed of my bike.
3) Poor Headlight throw : Yes this problem exists. I am also looking for a solution, may be i will get some additional fog lights on leg guard as winter is coming (Any suggestions are welcome here) . For city driving I feel light is just sufficient.
4) Comparison with gixxer and apache rtr 160 : Most of the comparision is between these three bikes only and everyone is forgetting FZ. I believe the design of the three bikes is for different purposes.
Gixxer is more focussed on college students and hence very small pillion seat. Also the ground clearance of the bike is low. This makes the bike compact overall and hence is better flickable. Surprisingly though hornet is bigger and heavier it never disappoints when we try to flick the bike. Pillion seat is good and I did triples a few times (in the streets only) without any problem.
RTR is a different concept and race inspired, when someone says its race inspired we feel that it has better lowend pickup and RTR does have that...but the vibrations still exists in the newer generation of RTR also. Hornet though has a very minor difference in lower end pickup but is vibration free (atleast till 80 after which some people faced vibrations).
Hornet is a more sporty type commuter which will suit college students as it is stylish, racing guys as it has decent pickup , mature guys as it has both comfort as well as mileage.
5) Stiffer suspension : I am a sufferer. This bike does have a stiff suspension so I have to slow down a bit when I see a pot hole. Any suggestions are welcome here.
Overall I am happy with the bike and having fun riding it. Hope that it has long way to go.Last edited by mkkvs; 10-26-2016, 03:13 PM.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Not really(IMHO). Forget RTR. Gixxer, FZ and Hornet were designed with street fighter looks in mind, I'll even go ahead and say it out loud that Honda shamelessly copied design cues of the FZ straight into Hornet. They didn't even spare the color scheme.Originally posted by mkkvs View Post4) Comparison with gixxer and apache rtr 160 : Most of the comparision is between these three bikes only and everyone is forgetting FZ. Don't believe me? Have a look at the Silver Orange FZ-16(1st gen) and the Silver Orange Hornet. I had one so the first time I saw an Orange Hornet right after it's launch I couldn't believe my eyes with Pritam-giri of Honda.
Its a decent bike nonetheless, except the missing engine kill switch.
Regards.
