Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
1) We don't want to treat this bike as an adult, we wanna baby it, and here is the fact as you laid out. This bike has no low end power. For a motorcycle that we don't wanna stress out for extended periods, I would atleast need a good low end power to beat traffic. And that's exactly what our nemesis, the gixxer, has.Originally posted by vaRider View PostThere have been many posts about bike performance in this thread recently. So how many of you feel you did mistake buying Hornet?
There are few common issues and solutions for them. I being ridden bike for 8 months and 4900 km, I have gone through and frustrated for such issues.
Over the time, you'll understand bike's behavior and how to adjust accordingly.
I'll address issues one by one.
1) Run in period
Make sure you ride gently and don't stress bike for extended period. Let's say riding above 5000 RPM for long time.
Ride bike at top speed once or twice when bike is sufficiently warmed up. Gradually increase and decrease speed.
Apply brakes with ease. Until break pads worn out, bite can be rough. After 2-3000 km, brakes will get smoother.
Keep tyre pressure 25/25 and 25/29 if pillion. Always check air pressure in morning and within 5-10 min of riding.
Give choke to engine after first start and use kick start every day when used for first time. Give choke for 30-45 seconds.
Gears can be clumsy. To smoothen them out, try to shift gears frequently or ride in traffic.
2) Headlights
Yes, they are worst! Best you can do without voiding warranty is to use Lower+Passing when needed. Excessive usage may drain battery.
You may install Phillips/Osram headlights as some members have claimed.
3) Pickup
True that bike lags in 1st gear to 15 only, but then 2nd gear is good for 30 and 3rd onwards pickup is very good.
4) Top speed
I've observed many times that if we stress the engine for high speed it makes very discomfiting sound..
But it you gradually increase speed, engine runs very smooth.
I've touched 110 many times with this method.
5) chain
Please keep chain well lubricated and slack of 2.5-3.5 cm.
Depending on your road smoothness you may adjust slack every 600-1000 km.
6) Oil
Honda mineral oil is okay and lasts 2000-2500 km only based on usage. Don't stress the oil.
I've not tried FS yet.
7) mileage
45-55 depending on riding conditions
Please feel free to ask any questions.
Hope this helps
2) Kickstart used to work normally, but of late, the bike hardly starts at one go. Even when it's warm, quite often, I find myself using 3 kicks atleast.
The choke, again, used to have some meaning. But now, whenever I pull the choke, the bike drops dead. Crazily enough, it's got better starting ability WITHOUT choke. I don't even know what's keeping me from ripping it off of my bike.
3)Gears are as ever clumsy as before. To the extent that it dreads me whenever I'm at a crowded signal. The first gear is too short and the bike gives a terrible jerk when shifting to second.
4) Vibrations - the worst issue in this bike imo. There is nothing much sporty about this bike in terms of performance. Someone posted that one can do 70-80 all day long comfortably on this machine. That's a negative. It frickin shivers at 70. On my last ride, i just occasionally touched 70 and even 80. It was a 30 kms ride, and I don't know if it's the handgrips or what, I could definitely feel the vibes. When I reached home, my left palm had these tingling shocks at several places(the kinda nervous stings you feel when you hit your elbow hard just a little above the joint). It remained partially numb for several hours thereafter. I don't mean to race this bike all day and i don't definitely expect it to rev to 70 in split seconds, but when I do now and then take it to that speed, I expect it to not give earthquakes. To think that the reviews actually say that "vibes creep in at 90"....that is bull!
5) Pickup....well, platinas and splendors have beaten me(until 5.5k rpm). I have nothing further to say in this regard.
The mileage, brakes and the fact that I got the cbs version without any effective cost addition(at the price of std version) is what's keeping this motorcycle a little close to my heart....Last edited by Suddy; 10-21-2016, 06:00 PM.

Recently I've been on 650 km ride for 2 days and bike performed really good. I rode on bike 80_95 for long time and no issues felt.Originally posted by Suddy View Post1) We don't want to treat this bike as an adult, we wanna baby it, and here is the fact as you laid out. Yes the low end sucks, but no other option. Don't baby bike after 3000 km, I am ripping bike occasionally at 95_105. But otherwise okay..,.Ride hard, Ride safe! :D

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Is the chain slack adjusted and the chain itself clean and lubed? My friends have Hornets too and they're happy at 80-85 type speeds. Nothing as dramatic as your post suggests above.Originally posted by Suddy View Post4) Vibrations - the worst issue in this bike imo.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Yes, I totally agree. Only 70-80 is vibration range after that it is smooth!Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostIs the chain slack adjusted and the chain itself clean and lubed? Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
This ride was after adjusting the chain and lubing it. I don't wanna keep cursing it. But the facts remain unchanged. Just that i posted it only now as it seemed apt. And it's a matter of perspective, for you, my issue might feel dramatic, but from where I'm standing, i feel that this bike is being overrated in this thread....Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostIs the chain slack adjusted and the chain itself clean and lubed? Checked completly and the noise is from suspension itself. But being KMS counting, sound was reduced. Will take it to Service center...Originally posted by KnoXxX View Post@,Ashhar _ Saaed

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
I am having special edition mars orange..I bought it on 5th of october...Originally posted by Sourav Choudhury View PostI rode a CBS special edition it was tad lethargic..couldn't feel anything. Later I rode two non-cbs these has awesome feeling and pickup. All test ride. Is the nature of this bike varies from one model to other? I am going to have green special edition next week. I chose it over gixxer due to low groung clearance which is a problem in my city's road condition.
I understand how you feel when one purchase bike with love and this happen....I am worrying now, has honda fixed this problem for their current lots? When did you buy it?
