Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
The oil cost about 310/-Originally posted by Shashank K R View Post@wdrwilfred did they put Honda Throttle or Honda mineral oil?
If the oil costed you around 300, then it is mineral. And using mineral for so long and the oil to remain golden yellow is just unbelievable.
For me Honda mineral used to turn dark and watery by the 1800km mark. Due to this I am convinced that the 6000km oil change interval is too long.
Which service centre did you visit? I will never go back to the Honda ASCs at KR Puram, Binnamangala and Old Airport Road.
The service centre is Silicon Honda near Monotype, Banashankari.
Based on some internet source .... Oil may become too blackish or watery due to any of following reasons....
- Most trips are less than 15 km, especially during cold seasons.
- Most trips include extensive idling (such as frequent driving in stop-and-go traffic).
- Frequently driven in dusty areas, like on dirt or gravel roads.
- Too much stress on the engine (for example ... riding uphill or carrying too much load or raising the throttle abruptly).

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Now that you mention it my rides tend to go through stop go traffic and dusty areas. I travel around 40km per day from Basavanagudi to KR Puram. I guess that's the reason.
Is Silicon Honda good? The Haiku Honda ASCs are very crowded and not good. And do free services apply to any dealer? As in can I give my bike for 3rd service at Silicon Honda having bought it at Haiku Honda?

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
No problem, you can get your bike serviced in any Honda authorized service centre. Free service will still be applicable. I also bought @ sapphire Honda (reason - no waiting period for Hornet at that time). But I have very poor experience with sapphire Honda service centre with my 1 year old Activa. It is too much crowded. This silicon Honda which I mentioned near Monotype is newly started, so no crowd. So they will have enough time to listen to your concerns. But quality of service I think everywhere it will be same thing (exceptions might be there though). My headlamp mask was slightly dis-oriented after my first service there. I will post the pic this weekend possibly. They mentioned that they will replace free of cost during my second service, but only God knows. But you can definitely give it a try. They are really responsive I would say. Not arrogant or no hurry-up behaviour also.Originally posted by Shashank K R View PostNow that you mention it my rides tend to go through stop go traffic and dusty areas. Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Hi All, good to be back to xbhp after a long time. Bought my hornet in March and done with the first service on 10th April'16 @325KM on odo. I have few problems with the bike. I maintained the rpm between 3-4.5k before 1st service.
1. Gear shift is not smooth.
2. Pickup is not that great, I feel. I couldn't go above 85KMPH (perhaps I feel my subconscious mind has been stopping me every time).
3. Ride gets harsher after 5.5K RPM.
4. Leather on the seat (factory-fitted) started to peel off. Honda show-room guys (GSN honda, Chennai) have no idea about the seat cover and stuffs.
5. I still get the smell of a burnt-wire (or rubber) though the bike has reached ~700KMs - it has reduced though.
6. Above all, the guys at the service centre were pathetic. They didn't care too much to respond to our queries. I was charged Rs. 457 for 1st service; when I asked them why it was more than the usual bill of Rs.312 (as I read here), they didn't explain me properly.
Should I escalate it to the Honda guys?
Thanks,
Shankar

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
This is a whole set of new issues. Before FIRST service i managed 121 kmph. U feel bike gets bit rough after 6k rpm true that. No seat cover peeling noticed as a fact of matter 70% pillion riding.Originally posted by Shankar(a)Bala View PostHi All, good to be back to xbhp after a long time. Not complaining about the capacity of the bike, but after 5.5K RPM the bike gets harsher. I could feel the harshness and so, I've been forcing myself to slow down.Originally posted by Zeit View PostThis is a whole set of new issues. Before FIRST service i managed 121 kmph. Exactly! The showroom guys have no idea about the seat covers for HornetOriginally posted by Motomonster View PostToday my seat just came off.I mean the cover of Seat which is stapled.three staples got removed due to sudden braking with pillion.I noticed it after journey, I think I should get a good Seat cover stapled.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Hi folks,
I have been going through this thread for quite sometime now and has been very useful for a general idea about the pre- and post-owning info. Thanks guys.
I just have one major concern that I want to share and get some feedback.
I've clocked close to 900kms now. I've been having a gut feeling that my mileage is low though I hadn't had a proper reserve-to-reserve check until recently. I had this test for 3 ltrs a week back. And my mileage is barely above 30.
Way off from the general response I've been seeing here.
I've been barely touching 65kmph until first service, with a average speed of around 50kmph. I mentioned my concern to the service guy. His response was that they don't touch the engine till 3000kms. I've had a few instances where I've touched a max of 70kmpl post first service. I'm be refueling at only Shell so far.
I could use some feedback from the wise motorheads here about riding habits or anything else that could be wrong here.
Thanks guys.
