Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Just a notice.
I am posting this because I'm trying to find people in Chennai who can actually ride during weekends for breakfast and recreation, say around 200 km radius around Chennai to start with. I own a gixxer.
My group of friends had to shift to other cities and I am in search of people who can form a group. I'm slowly recovering from a couple of ailments and I had a huge gap in between because of the same. I'll be done with my college by the end of April and so I am planning to start my riding from May or June. I wish to form a neat and professional group which has members following traffic and safety guidelines. I'd be more than happy if you guys are experienced and/ or have done tours on your bikes.
It'd be a great way to bond, learn and explore!
I'm also planning on inviting some RE, FZ, Fazer, sf, hornet, pulsars and other bike riders through known contacts so that there is no scope to race or stray away from cruising - in short, bikes that can maintain comparable speeds and have similar equipment.
Interested riders please let me know through a personal message and we shall discuss it over phone soon.
See you guys! [:Last edited by srinath2494; 04-21-2016, 08:42 PM.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Thanks mate, I know of that thread and I know chris too. The problem is all kinds of bikes take part in it and to start afresh for me, I wanna do only short rides with speeds not more than 80-85 kmph. Unfortunately this Sunday is not possible for me to make it too. Plus, I am taking a month off to service my bike and also get back my lost riding gears - jacket to be specific.Originally posted by kannanmr16 View PostSrinath, there is a thread for Chennai g2g in the off line meets section. Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
It's been only two weeks and 100kms on ODO but still, I'm loving it !
Bought the Hornet (Sports Red) on Gudhipadva, after a lot of verbal fight with two dealers.
One dealer was quoting 5,000 Rs. more and the other dealer was asking for 7,000 Rs. more than the actual On-road price mentioned on Honda's website.
When I complained this to Honda's customer care, they assured me that I do not need to pay even an extra penny.
Some senior guy from main office had called the first dealer and perhaps asked him for the justification of this extra amount.
Later in the day, I got a call from the same dealer.
He was now saying that there was some confusion and I only need to pay 1400 Rs. extra.
But I refused to pay this unjustifiable extra amount.
Then I went to the second showroom.
Here they were asking for 7,000 Rs. extra.
I explained him the sequence of all the discussions (including the discussion with the first dealer), but he still refused to sell the bike at the actual price.
I stood up from the chair and started to walk towards the exit and suddenly the showroom manager agreed to sell the bike for the price mentioned on Honda's website.
I know Hornet is not some sabji-tarkari to bargain like this, but I didn't like the idea of paying any unjustifiable money, that's it.
Anyway, enough of my purchase-purana, let's come to the Hornet 160R. (will post the photos later)
I have used Gixxer for couple of months, so I will try to review the Hornet by comparing it with the Gixxer.
I don't know much about the technicalities of the bike, so please bear with me.
~ Looks ~
I think this department shouldn't be a primary factor to 'judge' a bike, because what looks good to me, may not appeal to some other person.
According to me, Hornet is a better eye candy than the Gixxer.
The only thing I found more appealing in Gixxer is its exhaust.
~Handling~
Gear shifting is buttery smooth in Hornet, but shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear is equally hard in both the bikes.
Gixxer is a better performer at lower rave range.
I don't know the exact term for this thing, but Gixxer can be driven at 4th gear even at lower speeds, whereas Hornet is not as peppier as Gixxer in this department.
~ Suspension ~
At first, I felt the suspension of Hornet to be on a stiffer side.
The bike was not absorbing the potholes well, but then I went to check the tyre pressure and found it to be too high in both the tyres.
In the front tyre, it was 30 and in the rear it was 40.
I changed it to 25 and 30 and it's all good now.
To be honest, I haven't felt much difference in Gixxer and Hornet when it comes to suspension. Both are equally good.
But the ground clearance is much much better in Hornet than the Gixxer
~ Braking ~
Again, haven't noticed much of a difference between both these bikes.
Both the bikes I used have only front disk.
~ Comfort ~
This was one of my primary concerns while buying the bike.
Hornet is undoubtedly more comfortable than Gixxer for both, the biker as well as the pillion. (specially a female pillion)
~ Mileage ~
Haven't checked it yet.
I will update this post after second servicing.
Now I have some queries for the experts.
1) Which is the ideal place to keep a cleaning cloth ?
2) The horn sound is too low and doesn't suit the bike. Please recommend a good horn.
3) The run-in period is too long. (500kms) I've completed 100kms, but it is too hard to be under 4,000RPM
What will happen if I cross 4,000RPM ?
4) Any other maintenance/performance tips you want to share ?
Be happy and a reason will come along !

Answers for your questions
1.I don't keep the cloth in bike but I have seen people keeping it between the gap of handlebar mount.
2.I don't think you should be fiddling with electrical parts .it may affect warranty.
3.manual mentions to ride linearly ,it doesn't mention rpm limit, still you should ride at lower rpms with short bursts to 6000rpm.
4.

Yes, riding gear's are mandatory and all of us suggest wearing them.Originally posted by srinath2494 View PostThanks mate, I know of that thread and I know chris too. Experienced people leading the ride decide on the speed we go, heck when I first joined them for a meetup(Jan 2016) and some of us being newbies we never crossed 80. This group stands by the Anybike:anyone terms to the T. Have ridden along with RX to HDs all in the same ride [emoji4]

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Less pressure = More contact patch = More friction= less mileage= Slightly improved rideOriginally posted by hisham2k9 View PostHello people.
Can anybody point out how would tyre pressure affect the:
1. Comfort/ride quality
2. Highway performance
3. Brakes/ braking distance
4. Mileage
5. Handling?
Higher pressure= less contact patch = less friction = little better mileage = poor braking (read dangerous)= Slightly stiffer ride

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
To stat with, I am not used to running my gixxer on highways whereas I've used rtr 180 and it can hold speeds close to 90 or 100. That is the reason why I am planning to stay away from bikes of bigger capacity. I'll anyway post the same on the Chennai G2G thread when I'm ready by may or june. Thanks and if there's anything PM me [:Originally posted by kannanmr16 View PostYes, riding gear's are mandatory and all of us suggest wearing them.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Guys, can someone please confirm if CBS and non CBS models have the same front disc rotors.
Request people with CBS and non CBS Hornets to post clear pics of the front disc.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
