  • Engine guard scrapping experience CB Hornet 160R

Yesterday evening i had an engine guard scrapping experience at an shopping mail.

At the entrance they have created a speed breaker like structure which touched the engine guard. Many full loaded small cars pass through it, could not get how it touched in case of bike while those cars pass easily. May be it was little lengthy and designed keeping in mind for cars only (to restrict bikes) which caused the issue, not sure.

I have driven the bike through out the city across many speed breaker but not found the issue any where else.

      wew thats some thing new...
i have a problem ; every time i have a pillion with me my double stand scrapes on the speed breakers :@

      ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Guys i have some serious problem.
Currently i am using Motul 7100 20W50 FS oil. Guys my engine performance has dropped alot
      Only good changes are -
      1. Little smoother gear shift
      2. Engine once it sets into its temperature ; The engine is butter.
      Cons -
1.High Viscosity oil . Acceleration drop coz it takes effort to circulate it thru d engine
      2.top speed drop
3.rather flat mid range ; engine feels lifeless takes time to acclerate from 40 to 60

Can u guys please suggest some good engine oil ???

i will be switching to Honda Throttle FS 10w30 oil ; will that be cool ?

      also ,
i will stick to honda's inhouse oils till remaining free services ,, is it ok ?

      Rest ALL IZ WELL

      PLEASE SEND YOUR VALUABLE INPUTS

If the recommended oil grade for the hornet is 10w30, then using a 20w50 oil is not only unnecessary, but also dangerous for the engine. Use only the recommended grade for your engine, because the engine has been designed and tested with them. Currently I'm using Honda 10w30 mineral oil, comes in a gray can, in my cbr250. Cost is around 280 bucks a litre. No problem, butter smooth engine. If it works in the CBR, I think the Hornet wouldn't have a problem with it.

300V is overkill. 7100 10w40 will be good enough. Even 5100 10w30 is good. Alternatively you could go for Shell AX7 10w40. Honda 10w30 is good for city use, but even 50-60km of highway cruising makes it lose its smoothness.

But I suggest you to use Honda's 10w30 or any mineral oil till at least 5000km before making the switch to synthetics.
Yea, using Honda's own mineral oil for the free services is a good idea. Anyway the 6000km internal is too long, so you will have to change the oil earlier.

Ok Guys. This is my first post so please bear with me.

I was completely satisified with Gixxer and was about to book it when my better half convinced me to look for another one as she didn't like the Pillion seat.

I really liked Hornet, i will book it today mostly. I just need the below clarifications.

                      1. can ladies (saree claded ones) can sit comfortably in Hornet?
                      2. How good is the suspension? I am buying a new bike as i had back problem with my very old Activa.
                      3. Generally how good is Hornet compared to Gixxer ? I know am asking to Hornet owners still just for my satisfaction as i am finding very few people who owns a Hornet.

Thanks for your time and suggestions in advance!!!

No, with the default saree guard, which is official accessory the ladies footrest or side foot rest are not present for a sportier ride, so sitting sideby will be difficult (that you meant i guess for saree clad), though you can weld it into it. I did not prefer it, also the seat height being higher climbing side by may be difficult.
It will be better for you to visit showroom and see if it's comfortable for her. I was also looking for it but did not like to weld something to a new bike while delivery. But it will be ok i think as the saree guard does not comes pre installed. So, they can weld the footrest then install it.

It was stiffer initially as per me as i didn't travel much longer on bike earlier and those were limited to 5-10 km but post service i feel it's better now, things like suspension gets adjusted with running. Also, the rear mono shock can be adjusted in 3 levels. Can not say in comparison to activa as i never rode it.

The engine refinement level, bigger bike stance and road presence, dual disc brake with CBS, excellent FE, reliability of honda engine, after sales service and resale value are the factors as per me.
Personally, I did not like the looks of gixxer much specially the rear end and i liked the muscular hornet, also felt short to me.

The resale value for a honda vs suzuki is the biggest point for me because i remember when i went for exchange for my Yamaha gladiator the sales person told not to exchange it since it will not have good value directly, without checking the bike. At the same time i found another customer who wanted to exchange his passion pro bike which was 3-4 year older to my bike which is 7 year old and he was getting a quote around 23 K . So, this makes the big difference for me. I don't think suzuki will be that big name as hero honda (now split), and didn't want to do that again. The same applied to other car manufacturers verses maruti. Also, in the sporty segment of 160cc taker of used bikes will be lesser unless priced very low i think due to availability of easy finances etc.

Now also i have both the bikes and i did not exchange the old bike and looking to sale it on used market.

1.if only you get a footrest welded to saree guard. Seat is high by 100cc bike standards but at par for 150cc bikes.for sure it is much better than gixxer.
2.suspension is quite stiff but no bouncing for rider and pillion.
3.big bike stance, pillion and rider comfort, better brakes, smooth gearbox .

For number 1. Im telling im a family man and im also looking for ladies foot rest, and my better half can sit (saree claded one) comfortably thought as not comfortable as activa or but its much more comfortable than fz,gixxer, etc etc , more importantly you always can fit aftermarket foot rest, which im searching and will post a pic when i will get it.
And for number 2 & number 3 - we are all proud owners of Hornet, exceptional braking capability, like to stick with the road, awesome FE,refined n smoooooooth engine, suspension is good enough - i have frozen shoulder but i never felt any pain no matter how long i ride.Hope it helps

I am thinking how you are managing it comfortably with saree . Does she sit side way without using footrest, straight sitting will not be possible i guess?

On a lighter note, i am thinking, if no side foot rest provided with saree guard then when the saree guard is to be used (i.e. if people with sarry can not sit). If so then it would be like non functional as per me, may be provided just to pass the regulatories.

                                First service completed.
                                Cost - ₹391/-
Bike became silent and engine smoother due to oil change, chain lubing and tightening.
But the gear shifts are still hard. Maybe harder than before.

Also next service is at 6k kms but the problem is they have poured honda mineral oil. How is it possible for a mineral oil to run 6k kms on a high revving engine ??
Should i change oil in between these free service ??
