Got my first service done at 523 km, engine now feels more smoother and refined. The engine sound is also reduced.

The service cost me Rs 312.00 . It was my very first after sales service experience as honda and very happy with it, bike was given earlier then given time. I was given time of 3 pm for delivery time but i received it at 12.30 pm.

Happy to have completed the run in period kms within a week

I have 1 doubt, i requested for semi synthetic oil and but it was not written in the job card, i enquired about it with CRM and at billing and was told the same is done but i am not sure. I was told it will cost around Rs 700 but it costed Rs 312.00.

Can anyone verify if it's the price of the semi synthetic oil?

Can any one confirm the recommended oil for Hornet is Honda 10W30 Mineral oil or Honda Throttlez Synthetic ? And also is which is replaced at the time of service by them ?

I got my new hornet Orange CBS on 1st March and till now completed 500 KMS. Below are the observations i had till date in my bike,

1.Getting 55 KMPL milege which sounds great for this bike. i am doing 40-55 KMPH from the day one i got my bike.
2. Till first 200 KM the gears are very tight and found it painful to bring it to Neutral. ocassionaly when i am with slippers really get my toes hurted due to this. :-( Now post 400 KM seems this got better.
3. Key holes and steering was tight and now they are better.
4. I was feeling like brakes was litrally very effective or not working for first 150 KM's post that slowly the bites got increased and now i am able to feel the CBS effect. I think some run in needed for disk pads.
5. Headlights on high beam seems ok on litted roads.
6. Chains got hanging now and scrapping on the swing arm. Need to chk on 1st service.
7. Rear suspensions are very stiff. Not able to drive more than 30 in bad roads which i go 50+ KMPH on my old bike.
8. I didnt feel cold start issues as it comes to life in a single push of button every morning.
9. In idling engine feels very rough like hammering effects..May be it gets settled after more KM's
10. Was getting some skreeking noise from rear discs. Found some black dust sediments on the disk. Post cleaning them with water it got disappeared.
11. Got the extended warrenty booklet which says CBTrigger/Dazzler/Twister. No where hornet is mentioned except in the recipt of it. is it a valid one ?
12. With the macho rear tyres i am able to do knee scrappers easily and confidently. waiting to complete my run in to try out many other things... ;-)

I don't think Honda has a semi-synthetic oil. They have fully synthetic oil called throttle oil, which costs around 550. They've mostly put the regular Honda mineral oil which costs 310.
Zeit Can you give me the number of the mechanic who fixed the strange sounds? My trusted mechanic wants to speak to him and know more about the problem.

I never got the invoice for the 1st service except for one basic receipt. When I requested for the itemized one, they had told me 370 Rs for oil & consumables (They are just manipulating to tally with the total amount, so couldn't believe them). I do not know what are those consumables. Yours look like authentic. For my Activa 1st service they had charged only 330 Rs, for Hornet they had charged ~ 370....

Read other ownership threads.
Procedure of common things like oil change during Run-in remains same for all such bikes.
I don't think it is required to change oil twice within 750-800 km. No harm to the engine though, it only additional cost. Also I feel the run-in period may get a little longer.

Its not required but its beneficial. You can get rid of the metal shavings if any sooner and reduce the chances of them getting stuck somewhere inside. It has no effect on the run-in period.

Hey guys, I have a query. I am not complaining or very concerned. but after first service, the throttle feels very free flowing.. i mean, the power comes very free to the bike. but before the service, the power used to come thick and tight... the throttle/handle used to feel tighter(not physically tighter) while delivering the power to the bike. that is the best way i can explain to you how it feels. i have changed the oil and also the handle bar grip from honda with "HONDA" written on it. and also a silver bar-ends. can anybody point out if it is normal and what caused the change? Recently i happened to test ride another hornet and also a cbr, both seemed to have a tighter throttle and power comes thick( by thick, i hope i conveying the right meaning) ... where as in my hornet, the power flows freely into the bike... i cant say if one feels better than the other in throttle response, but both has a different feel to it.

You mean the throttle response has improved? The mechanic might have re-adjusted the throttle cable slack. Also since you now have the handle bar grips on, you dont need to twist the throttle too much to provide the required acceleration.

Idk if I can say it is an improvement. I think it is the new handle bar grips that is making the difference. Because it has a higher diameter and the handle looks bulkier now. So, that must be the reason if the change of oil doesn't affect anything. But my pals who tried this new feel (again, not the physical feel of the new grip while merely touching it, but the response from throttle) says it feels better now.

Yes, it's most likely due to the grips. I've felt the same on my bike, and also feels that way when wearing riding gloves.

Yesterday, i did not had much chance to ride the bike after service as honda service center is very near to home (approx 1 km) and my impressions were based on the 1 km ride, also took the bike for ride in the late evening but it was very short and driven only in 2nd-3rd gear mostly.

While returning home i noticed that the gear shifting was very light, like i had to try 4-5 times to get the neutral position, as it was going to 1st directly on down shift and on upshift it was going to 2nd gear directly, Never faced that earlier. I also feel the engine kill switch would have certainly saved 5-10 seconds of engine running every day because it takes certain amount of time and stand still to reach the keys and turn it off. Hopefully we can get something after market later or when it comes, it can be a simple DYI i think.

Today evening took the bike for a ride again, i was planning to do 2-3 km but did around 10 km, this was done without helmet as i planned only to go around 1 km with vey low speed near our locality.

What i noticed that the engine is got very very smooth post the service or engine oil change, i did upto 70 km/hr and the engine was super smooth, i sometimes turned head to listen the sound in the constant RPM and found a very refined low constant humming engine sound also the low revs i hear a sshh kind of sound mostly, so the engine note is not much there as earlier. It was like the engine was asking for more rev, if it was not night and i had helmet i would have done more kms. The air in the chest and eye experience was very good. I also feel the rear suspension has got better.

I found the light throw at low beam to good and descent in comparison to my previous bike, it's little yellowish like fog lights, looks good to me.

Now looking for a long trip in the week end, so i can know the bike more.

At home now a days my car is taking rest mostly while bike is doing most of the kms. I bought this bike while having the car and another bike, so it was for performance, comfort, style and all i can say is certainly i am enjoying it and very happy with the experience so far.

You are right. 20W50 is overkill and its not suited for Indian weather conditions. Engine will feel sluggish over time. Stick to 10W30 or 10W40.

I have doubt on this procedure of constant RMP for engine break. Yesterday i checked across multiple websites and they don't recommend uniform speed also they suggested to drive in multiple rev range and to occasionally redline for short period.

As per the honda owner's manual it says not to use full throttle during the run in period. Not sure which way to follow, i am following the multiple rev range way so far.

Please share your view on it.
You are correct, keeping throttle constant during run-in will make your engine very sluggish to operate in higher rpms after your first oil change. The key is to avoid full throttle all the time, but you can vary the rpm from low to high so your piston acclimates to the varying speed/load conditions naturally.

Idk why people still stick to that age old "don't cross 5k rpm before first oil change" gimmick.

If manufacturers wanted to limit you to certain rpms, it would have been mentioned in your manual.

Only thing you have to avoid is sudden acceleration and deceleration before your oil change. Gradual throttle increase and decrease should be your only pointers.
