Change the oil at around 2000km since it is a mineral oil. You can use a 10w30 mineral for the winter and 10w40 for the summers. Also I suggest using mineral oil till at least 5000km. I don't understand why Honda set the services at every 6000km.

I was completely satisified with Gixxer and was about to book it when my better half convinced me to look for another one as she didn't like the Pillion seat.

I really liked Hornet, i will book it today mostly. I just need the below clarifications.

1. can ladies (saree claded ones) can sit comfortably in Hornet?
2. How good is the suspension? I am buying a new bike as i had back problem with my very old Activa.
3. Generally how good is Hornet compared to Gixxer ? I know am asking to Hornet owners still just for my satisfaction as i am finding very few people who owns a Hornet.

Thanks for your time and suggestions in advance!!!

1) The saree guard in HORNET is not an after thought. honda guys really did some thoughtful work. It comes with foot rest which is little higher than more commuterish bike but certainly comfortable. My mom is 60 years old and she is quite happy to ride.
2) Typical Honda suspension. Hard in the beginning but will relax eventually till some extent.
3) If you are a well build person, Hornet will suit you. Its painful to see gigantic guys riding toy like gixxers and not to oversee Hornet's ample pillion of course.

Perhaps Honda has set the service interval at 6k keeping in mind the environmental regulations. Quite possibly they would have tested the bike in Indian conditions before setting it. No harm in changing oil at 6k. Its just a personal preference.

In Indian conditions I don't think the mineral oil will last for 6000km. The oil won't last so long even if we ride very very sanely.

Bike became silent and engine smoother due to oil change, chain lubing and tightening.
But the gear shifts are still hard. Maybe harder than before.

Also next service is at 6k kms but the problem is they have poured honda mineral oil. How is it possible for a mineral oil to run 6k kms on a high revving engine ??
Should i change oil in between these free service ??
did u or are u facing in performance drop ?
like acceleration issues . in gear pick up issues ?

On a lighter note, i am thinking, if no side foot rest provided with saree guard then when the saree guard is to be used (i.e. if people with sarry can not sit). If so then it would be like non functional as per me, may be provided just to pass the regulatories.
exactly satyajit she sit sideways, and the kms i covered is not more than 10 so, with a foot rest it will be ok, i guess, coz hornet's pillion is sure sporty but not as over sporty like r15 v2, i wont even consider it as sporty bcoz its practically 2nd floor

!
Keeping standard tyre pressure around 32/30 will give you good cushion effect. Hornet handles big path-holes really well.

All changes are positive except the gear shifts !

Completed first 700kms today, as shown in the image above two bars in fuel meter are still there, i have used one tank fuel and 1ltr other so far, looks like it will returns very good FE. If running continues at this rate i would do 1500 kms a month i.e. 18,000 kms a year. In my previous bike i did 30,000 km in around 7 years. Enjoying the ride very much. There is only one day on which i did not ride it and in this time i have drove car only once.

Last week end the CRM of honda service center called up to enquire how the bike is doing after the service (i went for service on 21th of this month). I am very happy with such gesture, i never got such response from service center of my bike (Yamaha) or car (VW) ever. I think this differentiates popular manufactures (like hero honda, maruti, hyundai) from others.

While i was at showroom today to enquire about my registration status, i show a blue color hornet 160R and found some rubber kind of thing inserted to the structure above left side pillion foot rest (circled in above image). Could not get what is this used for and what's role of this structure, my bike is not having it. Is it to tie goods on seat?

Maybe it is for vibration reduction😛.
Zeit Unfortunately I've already bought 7100 and I think he's already poured it in. I'll check out Honda FS the next time.

Not sure, i told them to put semi synthetic. The service advisor told that all were available and can be used. But while receiving bike i checked the job card and the oil type was not mentioned. I enquired to CRM and billing and was told that semi synthetic was put by both but i have doubt since it was not mentioned in the job card and the total cost came around Rs 350, i was said it would be around Rs 750 for semi synthetic.

After the oil change the engine feels super smooth, can not say if it's due to engine oil type or not as i am not sure. The engine note while running is reduced, the idling note is more or less same. Sometimes when you are on full clutch at higher gears, engine becomes so silent that i feel as if it has stopped.

In the day of service i was feeling like the gears were slipping like i had to try 3-4 times to bring to neutral. it was going straight to 1st or second. The suspension has also got better they have done some change i think, as i complained about it.

I see many people are keen on getting higher rating engine oils and synthetic etc, as per me certainly engine performance will be better and wear, tear will be less but it will not be recommended to go full synthetic as wear and tears are good for new engine. This is the period when you need to take good care of engine and going back to lower rating oils is not good, so better to proceed gradually. Again the effect will be on long run and if are to be keep the bike for shorter period, it will make less difference.
