    Owners,
Do we need to lube the chain every time we wash the bike ?
The manual recommends 90 grade gear oil for lubricating the chain. Does it hold good ? Where can i get it?

Till date, I've heard of engines getting screwed up due to low engine oil level, never heard of a case where the engine seized due to changing oil at manufacturer recommended intervals.
hi I have driven my hornet more than 500kms and got my 1st service done ,i am get some grinding noise when i leave the acclerator while runnining in 2nd and 3rd gear.It sounds like clutch housing rubber pads have become hard ,anyone experiencing the same .the weld seams on swingarm have areadly rusted.

Now this is just my opinion and what I experienced in my Unicorn 160.
Well, Honda Throttle FS, kept it's smoothness till 3k kms only in my 250. But I didn't mind, i just stuck to schedule. Nothing bad happened. Neither did anything happen when I ran a semi synth for 4k. Nor will I expect anything to go wrong with the engine if I use mineral for 3k kms. Its all up to user preference.

Those of you who are running fully synthetic oil, please check the engine oil level every week. The FS oils tend to reduce/evaporate with usage.

I am feeling something similar in my bike too. I don't know what is causing it, and none of the mechanics have managed to fix it. A R15 user too found this same problem in his bike. So it's not only limited to Honda bikes.

A Yamaha technician (my trusted mechanic) said that it will mostly be a bad bearing and o-ring in the counter balancer shaft.

Completed my first reserve to reserve FE test after the first service. Below is the result.

Last reserve came at : 830 km
Current reserve came at : 928 km

            Total distance : 98 Km (just 2 km shy of 100 )

Fuel filled for the test : Rs 100.00
Price of fuel on 4th April : Rs 59.35 per litre

Total fuel used : 1.68 litre

            Fuel Economy : 58.33 km/ litre

In this test the bike was ridden within the city only for office commute with stop at 6 km, no pillion at all.

            ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Today i also did a tyre pressure check around 2.30 pm for the first time, it's been 24 days to the bike.

I found that the rear tyre was very over inflated, it was at 60 psi as told by the pressure boy but pressure at front was correct at 24 psi he made it 25 psi. I checked the recommended pressure, it's on the left side near the rear tyre (25 psi at front and 29 psi at rear for riding with pillion) . He was reluctant to reduce it to 29 psi saying it's good and his another customer told do you know that low pressure is not good.

I did little argument and told 29 psi is the recommended tyre pressure and i am not asking to under inflate. Then he reduced pressure and i also checked once myself, it was at 40 psi at that time, he reduced some inbetween .

I was shocked how i have been riding the bike at 60 psi, without noticing any issue. It's twice of the max recommended level (29 psi) and front was at 24 psi.
60 psi is simply too much if i go by the words of the pressure boy, the bike was ridden for only 5 km before the test today.

Is honda over inflating tyres while delivering or at factory? Is it contributing to the stiffness in suspension and riding which most of us are experiencing?

Please share your thoughts on it, i feel all should get the tyre pressure get checked if it's the case, it can bring a lot of difference to ride comfort and handling.

I have been using fs oil in my dazzler since 2012 and change it every 5000 kms I have tried Mobil 1, motul 700 20w50 , out of the two I preferred the motul as it is cheaper , the benefits of this heavy fs oil are, engine and gearbox smoothness as all know but the most important benifit is in riding on highways at 80 + speeds after riding for an hour the would knock if you accelerate with normal Honda mineral oil and this was very disturbing , with fs oil I have done Mumbai Pune non stop at 90+ speeds many times without any engine knocking and the engine feels more healthy all the time , so I feel if anyone does high speed highway runs then fs is must , if you ride only in city then Honda oil is ok

What is the price of motul engine oil?

I am amazed at the economy figures of the members here.I am getting 45-50 in city with moderate to high traffic.
I have checked my tire pressure and it was 35 psi I reduced it to 30psi.

Motorcycle House at JC Road in Bangalore sells 7100 for 750. I think 10w40 is the best grade for our engines. Zeit experienced sluggishness using 20w50.

                    EDIT -
                    Motul 3000 4T costs 260
                    5100 10w30 costs 550
                    7100 10w40 costs 750
                    300v costs 1050 or 950 (don't remember clearly)

I left my bike for 1st service yesterday (Lodha Honda, Chrompet, Chennai). A guy explained me about service events. When i asked about engine oil he said it is going to be 10w30. The cost of first service is 575 INR. I pointed out that it should be around 350 INR normally. he said that the cost of oil is 310 and rest is for chain service and lubrication. Is he right ??

One good thing is i missed deadline for 1st service but still they took the bike.

Personally Lodha honda is not customer friendly and often a rip off company. We have to run around people to get things done and often felt like Govt office. I dont know if all Honda showrooms are like this. But People in Chennai better avoid Lodha Honda.

425 for just lubing and oil change? I was charged 450 for oil filter change, oil change and air filter change together, for my CBR 250. I think each SVC charges according to their fancy.

                                Hello all happy Hornet owners!

Having good time with bike so far. Completed 1280 km now, 2 months since I got the bike.
Initial mileage for 900 km was 58+. I rode very gently below 55 kmph. After that started speeding gently like 60, 70, 80 so far. Now mileage is around 50.

Need to hit reserve and re-check mileage.

Anyways, can our beloved Hornet run comfortably at speeds of 90-105 kmph for 10-15 km continuously or 40-50 km a day? Top speed is 120 as per different YouTube videos.

Bike feels very powerful after 60 kmph speed! CBS breaking is little slower as compared to other bikes, it works, but freeplay is 2-3 cms.

Gearbox feels different when bike is running for 30+ minutes in traffic conditions. Fuel gauge isn't very accurate. Does 1 line count for 1.7 litres in Main and reserve fuel is stored 1.7 litres, right?

Bike's sharp stance gives powerful appeal, generally people don't mess up around in traffic.

Neutral comes up many times from 1st to 2nd, needs to be flicked harder.

Headlight on dark highways not helpful at all, it scares me when can't see the road.

Do you kickstart or button start 1st time of the day? I do kickstart, as button may draw more battery.

Need to install side foot rest for lady pillion rider, do you know approx cost?

Suspension is still not smooth, although bumps-potholes feeling has reduced as compared to 1 month before.

How frequently chain needs tightening and cost of it?

So long so good. Dunno if Mineral or Synthetic oil was poured in, how to check and decide if it needs to be replaced?

                                Ride well!!!
