Yes exactly, gear shifting @ 4k-4.5k rpm is ideal for city riding (Have enough torque in every upshift & also good for fuel economy if you maintain @ 4-4.5k rpm).

I am also facing this gear lock issue. Happens only when trying to downshift. When it locks, I release the clutch slightly then the gear slips to position with a thud sound. I do not know why it locks ?

And do they clean and lube the chain at 1st service?
Which oil did they use ??
What was the service cost ?
      Mileage @ city riding is ~ 55 (speed maintained <= 60)
      @ highway ride is ~ 47 (speed 80-90)

they cleaned & lubed the chain in 1st service.
      cost ~ 350 Rs.

350 only for lubing and cleaning or for complete service?

Anyway first three service labour charge is free. So only they charge for the oil & any part replacement. That's what my guess is ....
But I have not received the invoice (due to some issue in the system), they just gave a basic receipt. I will confirm once I get the itemized bill.

my service cost was Rs.312 including oil change, chain clean + lube+tightening, clutch asjust, accelator free play, washing.later carb tuning - all this @ 312,i can upload the invoice too
Furthermore, there's a guy who know me,so, if u build up good relationship with the guy who will service ur bike regularly then they only show honda what to show or what to not, means based on their reply the accountant guy create the invoice.

I couldn't read through the entire Thread, so could you tell me if the Hornet is all-in-all a great bike?

Yes 55. I have done 2320 km. With gear upshift @ right time, I did not feel any lag in power. It just does the job perfectly.
It is easy to understand, if I had mentioned above in relative to other bikes in segment (Fz & Gixxer), but I have no experience except for test drive.

How about your experience on performance ?

well i have complete around 1600, and power n performance wise its awesome dont feel like pick up drop issue like i mentioned earlier, but kolkata's traffic is just too much i repeat too much, constant gear shifting is a regular case, sudden braking is normal for Kolkatan's , so i will try to main tain <=60 speed lets c what it gives, anyways im now running bike on provided tyre pressure etc - front 25 - rear - 29, and i found that its appropriate for the bike even i found balance far better than previously used 29-33 psi.

                              Yes, it's very much possible.

In my last test i got around 60 kmpl, with two persons on the bike. The drive was mostly on the highway. My reserve sign came at 197 km then put around 1 ltr of fuel (Rs 60.00 to test), the next reserver sign came at 261 km. So, FE is at 64 kmpl, with adjustment we can take it to 60 kmpl .

This is greater than my previous 125 cc bike gladiator where i used to get around 55 kmpl with single rider.

The ARAI specification of Hornet is around 59 kmpl, so the above figure is very much achievable.

I am very impressed with the FE (Aam admi will also love this 'kitna deiti hai part'), it's more than expected from the 160 cc engine with the big tyres and new engine with running less than 500 km, it will improve with running i think. Also, other thing to note is that during this particular ride, i was varying rmp regularly intentionally for the new engine, so with constant RPM the figure might get better.

After the test i made a tank full. Will not be checking FE now for some days, as i have got the idea of FE for now.

You can also check by tank full method.
