Was the engine making a whistling sound or did it make a sound that made it look like something was loose in the engine (or some kind of grinding noise)?

      Hi All,
I got my bike yesterday. I have done 261 km so far. I went to see the honda CBR 150 but found this new bike on display there and liked it's design, style. Took test drive later and found engine refinement, performance to be good ( in comparison to my previous bike 2009 gladiator). Overall happy with the experience so far.

FE looks to be very good, for this size of the bike. In my last test it has run for 64 km so far and the reserver sign is yet to come. I think it will go over 70. Very happy about it, it's more than expected and considering the fact that the engine is new, i drove mostly on the 5th gear in this part as it was highway and within city also traffic was very less.

On the other side found to seat to be hard, though feels soft on touch or it may be the suspension, rear was hurting after 30-40 km of continuous drive.

      Hi,
I have doubt on this procedure of constant RMP for engine break. Yesterday i checked across multiple websites and they don't recommend uniform speed also they suggested to drive in multiple rev range and to occasionally redline for short period.

As per the honda owner's manual it says not to use full throttle during the run in period. Not sure which way to follow, i am following the multiple rev range way so far.

Please share your view on it.

@Satyajit Mohanta - Hi... first of all congratulations for your new bike... ride safe always.

well idk where u read that from... my words are courtesy to the SVC dealership guy. coz this is my first bike.. i didnt happen to do much research online.
but personally i revved my bike thru all RPMs as low as ~2k in 3rd gear (Good low end torque) and ~9k rpm in top gear touched 122kmph...
but i kept myself limited to the typical 57-66kmph in top gear that accounts to ~5500RPm.. i ride rather sedately with very less frantic bursts..
but in the Break-in period i kept it stable as well as revved it quite often

added u guys so that you can help me with ur experiences...

I got my first bike Hornet 160(Standard) black from Gurgaon, last week and feeling awesome .

          Now my question is:
Currently i lives in chandigarh and want to drive my bike from gurgaon to chandigarh (Bought bike from Gurgaon due to local documents issue )
and have not got RC and number(security plate). (Showroom manager/agent will be processing for these)

          1) So can i take my bike to Chandigarh OR i have to leave it in Gurgaon and wait for all documents & number to complete and receive?
          2) How long will it take to receive registration and number?
I think i have asked something off topic or posted on wrong forum/thread :what:

That's exactly what I was looking for. Till now I wasn't able to diagnose the issue. Thanks.

I actually have the Hornet's less sportier sibling, the Unicorn 160. But yeah, for the first 1000km I rode the bike below 60kmph, shifting gears at around 4k RPM. I also did occasional runs till 7-8k and 2-3k RPMs. Varying the RPM is the key to open up the engine smoothly. Riding at the same RPM during break-in for too long maybe harmful for the piston.

This bike should do 80-90kmph comfortably.

I do not hear any abnormal noise. I do not know whether I am not able to recognize or what ?.... I never lubed the chain myself till now (Chain lubing done in my first service @ ~ 886 km) Now the vehicle have done ~ 2170 km. I am also worried, I heard it should be cleaned & lubed for every 800-1000 km & if it is in dusty & pollution area, the frequency should be increased (ie., may be every ~ 500 km).

Is your throttle response is smooth and as expected ? (If chain slack is more, then you may not get smooth response)
Also does it slack more than required even after adjusting within a short span of time ? (If yes, check it with service or something to do with riding style, I do not know.)
Do you happen to ride often in bumpy roads for a considerable distance ? (Just a guess, bumpy road could also contribute to slackness ... but not sure)
What tyre pressure do you maintain ?

Friends, I also need some help here, what is the procedure to clean & what lube oil brand to use ? Also what solvent to use for cleaning ?

Regarding the seat cushioning, installing the *Hornet* seat cover seems to have solved my issue to a very large extend.
Unfortunately I did not take any picture... I should have . Thanks for your comments on seat cover. I am also looking for that cover for a very long time in Bangalore, but not getting it. Coming weekend I will ask again to showroom.

Chain slack is more I think. I have to adjust it every 3-400 kms.yes I ride in quite bumpy roads and lot of gear shifting is required in traffic. Air pressure is 28 front and 30 rear.
I do not ride at high rpms only occasional bursts to 5500 rpm in city.

Its so difficult for me to decide between the Hornet and Gixxer.

I love the reliability and aesthetics of the Hornet but love the performance aspect of Gixxer. Need some guidance from you guys.

I can understand. There are a lot more Gixxer owners than Hornet owners out there and naturally Gixxer owners will recommend Gixxer. Not many hornet owners though. I have been keeping a tab on this thread daily, 3 times a day. The first few pages were great but then certain owners started talking about small niggles and issues they started experiencing. Now I wonder whether its because of the bikes fault or whether its because of improper user care.
