  • Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences

    Hi Everyone,
    This is my first post
Thank you all for such a wonderful forum where first bike owners like me can get in touch and share my experiences and learn from more experienced guys out there.

I own a RED Honda Hornet STD ,
    Bought it on 15th April
I have completed first service today after 730 Kms and was charged rupees 344 for the same , oil was removed and Honda 10W30MA was filled.

First of all , i absolutely loved the experience of the bike.
Pickup was very good, i could feel the powerfull engine

I clocked 80-95 kmph constantly for first few days

The highest speed being 117 on a open highway.

But, after a few days i began to get some strange noise when riding above 60-80 kmph
At first i thought it was because of chain and tightened the chain.
but the sound continued few days after getting chain lubed and tightened .

Informed the service person about the same during first service , he said it was because of dry chain .
I have to see whether the noise is now reduced or not.

The bikes suspension seems to be a little hard and can feel the the hardness when riding over speed breakers

I am getting 43-45 kmpl mileage . It may improve if i maintain a constant speed

I have bought accessories from a store .
500 for seat and tank cover
    400 for leg guard
    130 for ladies foot rest
    50 for handle grips

Now after going through the forum

    i want to know following

Is there any way that a Engine kill switch can be installed in HORNET ?

Can i install a new switch gear set of any other bike onto HORNET ?

Is there any way that headlights power can be increased or replaced with more powerful ones ?

What kind of Engine oil has to be filled ?

Just connect one wire of switch to ignition coil positive and other to ground

        Hi,
Welcome to the forum. The bike is looking great.

The hard suspension is common in honda bikes and will get softer as you ride, i would suggest you to check the tyre pressures the recommended pressures are 25 psi at front and 29 psi at rear. In my case the tyre was over inflated, after pressure correction the ride is very comfortable now.

You have mentioned that you were running at 85-90 kmph constantly initially, you should limit the engine speed upto 4500 rpm and not ride at constant rpm for long time in the run in period, it would be over by now though.

I like the tank cover, i am seeing it for the first time. It's looking good and the pocket will be of great help. Is it available online? I would like to have one.

You and other members have sorted out the ladies foot rest problem, which we were concerned about in some posts back in the thread .

Zeit, good to see your hornet likes Honda Throttle 10w30. My cbr250 is 2600 kms on Honda mineral 10w30 and still happy, even at 130+ speeds*. No heating or extra stress on engine noticed.

          * Speed tests not done on public roads.

It is so bcz ur bike engine is liquid cooled and oil temp does not shoot up.

              Thank you
I have not checked the tyre pressure till date

Thank you for the suggestion I will let you if that solves the problem

Will there be any bad effect later on on the performance of my bike due to the speed 80-90 kmph I drove in run in period

The seat cover is not available online

There are shops here in hyderabad which make custom made seat and tank covers as per requirement

I bought it from one of those

The pocket on seat cover is serving as a great utility

I have been charged 500 for seat cover and tank cover

Again i was asked to choose from 2 different kind of ladies foot rests in a local automobile market.

I found no problem with respect to fitting of foot rest. Both of the footrests I was offered were fitting perfectly

                      Hi.
The reserve capacity is 1.7 litres.

Still in run in and got an excellent and unbelievable 57.5 kpl on my Hornet. I maintained a constant 3000 - 4500 rpm at speeds of 45 - 60 kph. Occasional bursts to 70 on free roads. Did not wish to go above that yet.
The route also includes crazy stop start peak hour traffic.
This means this bike is not only performance oriented but if ridden sanely can be frugal too!

I wouldn't know if one can use gear oil but chain lube isn't so expensive. A small can of Motul chain spray costs 235/- Use good quality stuff and your bike should last you the mile. The larger one is about 560/-

Hi guys, I am finally going to book a Hornet on Thursday.

Now comes to the final question in my long list of questions. Which color to pick?

I am struck between Red and Orange one.

It would be of great help, if someone who owns an Orage one can post a pic. I saw a pic of Red one some few posts back.

And i dont want to go through any website for this, as the colour representation seemed to be different when i saw them in person.

                          Thanks for your help.

My first choice was red but due to greater chance of fading of red color and new color feeling of orange bought orange. Scratches are more visible on red than on orange.
