1st and 2nd gear are very limited. Needs quick shifting to 3rd.
On 3rd you can go 35+
4th gear is long and ranges form 35-55 easily.
Get use to to shift gear after 3.5k+ rpm. You will get smooth riding, not jerky or lack of power.

        Hello Fellow Hornetians..

        Feedback after service
        ---------------------------
Got my bike 1st serviced last week after completing around 550 Kms. They charged a total of around 900 from me which includes engine oil,Teflon coating and some nulon additive oil which were optional. After the service the bike has become very smooth and the issues which i faced earlier are also gone. For the pickup issue the SC guy told me that in the initial running period the chain will get loose frequently and so you may face some pickup problems due to that. So get it checked after every 500 KM and if required get it tighten. I am also lucky as I had not faced any visible rusting on my bike though I am riding almost daily in rain and my bike stands in rain in open parking throughout the day facing sun and rain. The reason for this may be as soon as possible i wipe my bike after the rain but i will definitely keep an eye for rusting as many had complained on it.

        Query
        ---------
I am using the bike mostly in traffic and i must say the bike can easily pickup directly in second gear from a complete stop. So i stopped going to first gear unless i have more time or i am just starting the engine. Please advise is this bad practice or is it fine to run the bike in such way. I also found that this bike can even pull directly from 3rd gear directly if we just increase the RPM a bit initially ( I am not using this but just tested once or twice).

I say that from my experience in shifting at 4k rpm, usually. What about the speed ranges of the gears? Does it get better? Can the first gear be pushed beyond 15 smoothly after first service?

If i install the Anti theft Security ( ATS) system in my Hornet will it void my warranty???
and my chain slackness is uneven in one portion of the chain. Service center has adjusted the chain slackness so many times but the problem is still there. will this effect the durability of the chain?? Thanks in advance.

                1. Keeping in sun and rain will damage paint and finish.
                2. Its clearly mentioned in manual to start off from first gear, please stick to that, using 2nd from standstill will damage clutch.

Its a new bike. Give it a 1000kms to become smooth. Ideally for a new bike you just need to do smooth acceleration. Don't rev it too much and don't keep it in constant speed for long. Vary speed from low to high for short time so engine is perfectly run in. Also, if you can't do this don't worry, all new engines are built to extremely tough standards. I drove below 4k rpm upto 500kms and then ripped the bike. Still getting an average of 45. Trust me

Confirm with the service center. Ideally its a system to save your bike so it should not void the warranty.

Even though the specs talk about 14.76 NM @6500 rpm, however, I feel a lack of pick up may be after 5000-6000 RPM. I did check the condition of the spark plug at the nearest workshop, but the plug seems fine. I feel really disappointed to find lack of torque after exiting a curve on 3rd gear and then up shifting to 4th gear. I could take it to 2nd gear also before the turn but, I am afraid this will spoil the bikes condition on the long run. I find 3rd, 4th and the 5th gears not delivering sufficient power to a riding fanatic's expectation.

The bike is only less than a month old, but I ride 80 kms every day on an average because I am a sales guy. Its been more than a week after the first service and there is a good difference in the condition of the gear( was very tight in the beginning). The total kms run is 1566 kms and I regularly check the oil level and chain slackness. I got it tightened and lubed 3 times since I bought the bike and the workshop technicians uses cleaner and lube of Motul.

I guess you must have identified the actual problem from the above symptoms and please advise on how to improve the bikes performance or advise if there is any problem on the way I ride.

                  Thanks and regards
                  Sunil Sasidharan
I don't face the issue you are facing sunil. For me the torque peak is around 6500 rpm. Meaning you need to rev the bike to get the most torque. Don't worry, downshift and rev it to overtake. Does not damage the engine

Lucky you with no rusting issues . Unfortunately I'm facing them despite wiping the bike lol. Don't start the bike from 2nd gear man. Your clutch does excessive work along with the flywheel. In the long run it will result in clutch plate wear. Start in first, rev the engine no problem. That is how Honda wants you to ride your bike

This is a very bad practice brother. Your piston rings and engine life will be one third of the usual life if you continue to do this.
After a while the engine will stop the compression and there will be no more torque or power in any gear.
There is a reason the company gave the first gear, use it. It hardly takes half a second to shift up to first.
If you continue this, expect heavy maintenance cost in a few years, pistons rings gone bust, engine not compressing, engine overhaul.
Acquire good riding habits brother, they will serve you and your bike for a lifetime.
Get bad habits and it will be very difficult to change them, cause overtime, they will become your second nature. And it is easy to learn a good habit, but very difficult to unlearn a bad habit and then learn the good one and change your riding style.
                    Ride safe brother.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Regarding my previous concern about the switchgear and lcd turning off, it seems that the battery terminals, which were supposed to be made tight before delivery were not done. Basically none of the pre delivery checks had not been done. RIP Honda service.
                      The problem is solved though.

Honda service centers were never good unless you know a mechanic there or you bug them.

1st gear seems short. If I shift from 1 to 2 gear at 4k, I get a jerk and then the bike accelerates. There's no jerk shifting at 5k. The shifting from 1 to 2 isn't smooth. It does lurch forward. But then I've seen this behavior in most bikes, even an R1.

I've put NGK G-Power in my Unicorn. No difference other than easier cold starts for some reason. Certain Honda spares are difficult to get here. I wasn't able to get a viscous air filter anywhere, so had to buy a normal paper filter for the time being.

Nope... I have done with 2nd service. I just get used too to shift at 4K rpm. No issue it. While accelerating.. shift-up quickly.

The problem what I'm facing is, it feels like petrol is empty under hard acceleration between 5~6.5k rpm in 3,4 and 5th gears. Once past this rpm level it's fun.
