Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Hi All
I became proud owner of RTR 200 2.0 ABS (Gifted) last sunday. This is my 1st 200 CC ABS bike. I have few questions that might have been answered already but will appreciate if you guys enlighten me.
1. Is Saree guard Footrest available for this variant. If not, is it possible to make minor changes in the existing guard as I want it in any case. Anyone knows where can I get it in Pune.
2. What kind of care need to be taken to keep the bike shining.
3. I face cold start issue in the morning. Is it normal and is it ok to use choke. Sometimes I face issue to stalling/low rpm issue while starting the bike after 9-10 hrs.
4. 1st free service is due in next 150 kms so need suggestions about engine oil. How is TVS Fully synthetic oil. Does using oil other than TVS void the warranty?.
5. Will the bike performance be affected if I soften the rear suspension by 1-2 step?
I must say for a '13 RTR 160 user RTR 200 is a boon. It feels like you are not riding but floating. The comfort is unmatched and I get cravings to ride it more. Hoping that this experience is not ruined by improper service of ASC.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Hi All, I was doing about 60kmph at 4200 rpm at 5th gear in rtr 200 slipper clutch. When I downshifted to 4th gear, the rpm is raising despite having slipper clutch. I expected the rpm not to raise as it was slipper clutch. Is there any issue?

The RPM will rise. The slipper will only decrease the sudden jerk due to engine braking while downshifting.Originally posted by vengymgen View PostHi All, I was doing about 60kmph at 4200 rpm at 5th gear in rtr 200 slipper clutch. The slipper clutch just slips the gear (while downshifting), ensuring no damage to the clutch plates!!Originally posted by vengymgen View PostHi All, I was doing about 60kmph at 4200 rpm at 5th gear in rtr 200 slipper clutch. Without using the clutch just you can simply reduce gears but to avoid raise in RPM during downshifting, apply a small bite of brake asap before reducing gears simultaneously.
No clutch action required for downshifting !!!

A small correction in your explanation if you don't mind. The damage is indeed taken by the clutch rather than the transmission itself with bikes equipped with a slipper clutch.Originally posted by Aswinlogi View PostThe slipper clutch just slips the gear (while downshifting), ensuring no damage to the clutch plates!!
In a hopping set-up, the damage is taken by the transmission rather than the clutch.Whenever there is a Rainbow in the sky, I know it's u mastering the art of Cornering. U will always be remembered brother, R.I.P Arun.

What kind of damages are you talking about? Transmission / Clutch?Originally posted by Aswinlogi View PostYeah indeed ,but damage won't be not much I hope !! That's for what the slipper clutches are being installed !!

Anti-hop's are installed so that one does not lock up the rear during aggressive down shifts. That's all!Whenever there is a Rainbow in the sky, I know it's u mastering the art of Cornering. U will always be remembered brother, R.I.P Arun.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
The actual slipper clutch working is better seen/ experienced in tracks or aggressive downhill ghat rides. So if you're into track days for twice a year and being labelled as aggressive then the chances of replacement are quite near than usual. For the rest, it's the life of what a stock plate accounts for.Originally posted by Aswinlogi View PostYou mean clutch plates Will blow off soon ?

Anti-hop's are installed so that one does not lock up the rear during aggressive down shifts. That's all! There won't be any damages to the clutch system mate, as effectively in an anti-hopping setup the pressure is released by the pressure plate leaving breathing space for the clutch plates, slipper clutch as we all know. With the hopping setup as you mentioned, with crude clutchless maniacal downshifts, like those Rossi boys in some signals or "legends" infamously so they're called, can perhaps damage a cog or worse throw a rod given the right circumstances, but just a family guy hopping it, I guess shouldn't be an issue. After all transmission is a solid unit.Originally posted by dual disc 200 View PostA small correction in your explanation if you don't mind. Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
THE END
