Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Cold start issue!! I've never had any issue with cold starts. Even after 2 or 3 days of being idle, the bike starts in a single push of the starter. Air temperature plays an important here. In my place, it doesn't go below 25°C.Originally posted by lone_wolf7508 View PostIt took about 15-20 days for delivery. I booked on the 15th of December if I recall correctly and got the delivery on the 2nd of January. I chose the black and red color with ABS option.
Seeing as you are a prospective buyer, i will tell you a few things about the bike. You might know the good things already. So i will skip that part. The bike is good overall. The exhaust note will get you a lot of attention.
Now for the problems. It has serious cold start issues. And not only in the morning. Even if you try to start it after about eight hours, it refuses to start unless you use the choke. It becomes embarrassing sometimes [emoji23]. I noticed a small tinny sound coming from the exhaust heat shield recently. But it seems to be a fitting problem since my heat shield is aligned differently from other bikes. I checked with another Apache.
The bike needed 2 cranks for cold starts before the 1st service but it was fixed in the 1st service and no issues after that.Last edited by ayrus; 01-26-2019, 11:07 PM.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Mine is Carb+ABS version.. Wish TVS had provided with FI+ABS version. Because As mentioned by someone else, there are cold start issues. I had thought it was an issue only with mine and had planned it to get it addressed during my 2nd free service.Originally posted by Vipergts07 View PostRecommend to not let the FI run dry. It's a costly thing to replace if the pump goes bad. Fill up within few kms once the flashing starts. Making a habit of it helps.
Mine refused to start without choke after just a water wash today!!! [emoji23][emoji23]
Wonder if better carb tuning would improve this issue??

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Thanks! My bike is due for the first service and I will ask them about this issue. I got this bike in January and it has been quite cold in Bombay since then. So, perhaps that is the issue. But my old bike did not seem to have this issue. But you are partly right because I have also noticed that there is no starting issue when it is parked in the sun. Only overnight or when it is parked indoors in daytime.Originally posted by ayrus View PostCold start issue!! I've never had any issue with cold starts. Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Check fuel sensor error can be due to loose contact tell the SVC guy to detach and re attach the sensor plug which is near the carburettor. It should go after that. I had it before but not anymore.Originally posted by rohitmangalam View PostFirst of all, Thank you for replying!!
Alright, Will tell them next time when I visit the svc..
I can understand about the issue with the low fuel warning. What could the reason behind the CHECK FUEL SENSOR warning whenever I topup the tank?? It comes up after a ride for a few minutes after filling. When I checked the manual, I found that the tank has some sort of a neck near the inlet and it is not recommended to fill above that level. I think i filled the fuel above that level which submerges that neck.
Could this be the reason?
Also the wheels aren't rotating freely while coasting. Can hear some small noise from somewhere!! Need to check where the sound is coming from and localise the source of the sound.
Did you find source of the oil level dropping issue that you are facing?
Although, I do not have much mechanical knowledge I googled a bit and some articles indicate that it could be the internal components or the valve seal.
Since it is a fairly new engine, it couldn't be any internal components is it??
Anyway lets hope its nothing serious!!!
Oil level dropping can be due to Valve seal i doubt. The bike had done 40000kms already so maybe the valve seals are gone. Will check the same next week with the SVC.

There are very few people using the FI version of this bike. The premium for FI over carb does not justify the advantages.Originally posted by Greymatter View PostAnybody here took delivery of RTR 200 Fi 2.0? Any updates regarding the availability of Fi 2.0 Race Edition?
Afaik, the FI bikes are not usually stocked in the showroom and are available on order. It may take at least 10-15 days for delivery. Contact a nearby showroom for details.

Do you think it's safe to invest in Fuel Injected Bike from TVS as I read about many old RTR 160 Fi users not getting spares and how dealers ask them to convert their bikes to Carburetor.2005 HH Karizma [SOLD]

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
With the upcoming BS6 norms, all bikes will have to run with FI. So, it is unlikely that you'll be stuck without spares for the FI version of the 200.Originally posted by Greymatter View PostThanks for replying.

BTW.... may I know why you're too curious to get the FI model??

Actually I use to own R15 V1.0 and I was completely blown away by its crisp throttle response, smoothness and never faced any cold start issues.Originally posted by ayrus View PostWith the upcoming BS6 norms, all bikes will have to run with FI. Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
This is a low compression engine with a compression ratio of 9.7±0.5:1. High compression engines run 14:1 or higher. There should be practically no difference. I've felt the engine to be a bit smoother (on a lean carb; can be placebo) and slightly higher mileage (1-2kmpl, may be due to riding conditions). No harm in using it but also no apparent benefit.Originally posted by msrb1984 View PostAny feed back on premium petrol like shell v power? I read somewhere in net that high compression ratio bikes need high octane petrol
