Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Thanks. I had a wonderful test ride experience at the dealer, significantly better than all other brands in the area. The salesman said that I would get the bike in under 10 days with full registration, as long as I did not take financing. Not sure if they can actually deliver or not.Originally posted by lone_wolf7508 View PostIt took about 15-20 days for delivery. I booked on the 15th of December if I recall correctly and got the delivery on the 2nd of January. I chose the black and red color with ABS option.
Seeing as you are a prospective buyer, i will tell you a few things about the bike. You might know the good things already. So i will skip that part. The bike is good overall. The exhaust note will get you a lot of attention.
Now for the problems. It has serious cold start issues. And not only in the morning. Even if you try to start it after about eight hours, it refuses to start unless you use the choke. It becomes embarrassing sometimes [emoji23]. I noticed a small tinny sound coming from the exhaust heat shield recently. But it seems to be a fitting problem since my heat shield is aligned differently from other bikes. I checked with another Apache.
I'm aware of the cold start issue, but as long as that can be worked around easily and not a sign of major troubles in the future, I'm fine with it. The other bike I'm looking at, the FZ25, has a tappet noise issue, so it has its faults too.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Dear Members,
I had purchased 200 RTR ABS Race Edition 2.0 Black Color on 26/11/2018 in Bangalore.
Issues that can be solved:
1. COLD START: This issue got resolved in the 2nd Service. I just informed about this to the service guy and he resolved it.
2. GEAR SHIFT Sound: Gear might be hard. Ask the service guy, they will solve it.
Issues I am facing now and NEED HELP:
1. Stickers are bad. Within 2 months of daily commuting, the stickers are coming off now. Showroom guys are not helpful as they said there is no stickers available. Need Help for complaining or replacing the stickers.
Questions:
1. How to save tank from the scratches? Willing to go for a matte black vinyl wrap. Suggestions please.
2. Any good shops in Bangalore for the Accessories? Need to change the visor with a bigger one.
About Bike:
Amazing machine with great engine response. Completed 2900 kms till date.

With Shell Normal petrol, I got 41.6kmpl and with IOCL Normal petrol, I got 39.8kmpl in Bangalore. I am using Indian Oil now.Originally posted by msrb1984 View PostAny feed back on premium petrol like shell v power? I used to get that mileage when riding under 6k rpm. Nowdays I'm not able to maintain below 6k.Originally posted by Dovahkiin View PostDamn!! That is some impressive mileage numbers
..I can't get that even on highways.
May be that's reason I'm getting less mileage. But I'm not really worried about it. If mileage was my only concern I could have bought 160 variant.

There is a strong chance that you're running on a lean carb. My best is 42+kmpl with a lean carb and 4-5k RPM. The worst is 31kmpl.Last edited by ayrus; 01-31-2019, 11:08 AM.

What exactly did your SVC do to solve the cold start issue? I've complained twice about it to mine but I was told nothing could be done about it. I live in Bangalore too so maybe I could visit the same SVC as yours.Originally posted by imashish2789 View PostDear Members,

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Tell them to properly tune the carb. If it doesn't work or they refuse to do it, close the AFR screw fully and open 3 full turns (360°). Then ride the bike for 10+kms and set the idle at 1500 rpm.Originally posted by salman97 View PostWhat exactly did your SVC do to solve the cold start issue? This should solve the issue.Last edited by ayrus; 01-31-2019, 11:38 PM.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Sorry to mention pal. Only Diesel engines will have a compression ratio of 14 and above. Gasoline engine have a maximum of 12. High CR in petrol engine is prone to pre or auto ignition. Any compression ratio above 10-11 requires an octane rating of 91-95 ( RON 91 is recommended for Ktm). Up to 10 CR octane rating 88 will work fine. And that’s what we are getting as normal unleaded petrol. Racing engines may have up to 14 CR and that requires octane rating more than 100.Originally posted by ayrus View PostThis is a low compression engine with a compression ratio of 9.7±0.5:1. High compression engines run 14:1 or higher. There should be practically no difference. I've felt the engine to be a bit smoother (on a lean carb; can be placebo) and slightly higher mileage (1-2kmpl, may be due to riding conditions). No harm in using it but also no apparent benefit.
High octane fuel will have a high self ignition temperature that reduces knock and preignition in high compression petrol engines. So the engine can run smoother and produce better power.
Using high octane fuel in low comp engines won’t change anything.
Btw the premium petrol offered here are not high octane fuels they are fuel with additives. High octane fuels are sold by mentioning it rating like 95 ( I saw that in a bp fuel station in Chennai) and its damn expensive.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Premium fuels available in our country is not high octane fuels. They are claimed as fuel with additives that keeps engine clean. If it’s high octane fuel it’ll be mentioned with the octane number.Originally posted by msrb1984 View PostAny feed back on premium petrol like shell v power? Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
No issues, you can use 10w50 instead of 10w30. But make sure your bike's warranty doesn't get affected as per your company's clauses. Many bike manufacturers do not provide warranty if the oil grade is changed.Originally posted by Krishna85000 View PostI changed my engine oil from tvs synthetic oil to motul 7100 10w50 on recommendation of my friend who is using it. Now I'm doubtful weather using 10w50 is safe for engine rather than recommend grade 10w30. Please help..Honda Dio [2010 - 2011]
Yamaha YZF R15 V2 [2011 - Present]
Yamaha YZF R3 [2016 - Present]
What's next? :)

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
10w50 is too thick for ur engine. It won’t give better performance. It’ll reduce acceleration and lacks lubrication at high speeds. It doesn’t mean a thick oil will give better lubrication. 10w50 oil won’t flow as good as 10w30 in tight spaces. The engine clearances are kept too tight to run with 10w30. You can go with 10w40 max.Originally posted by Krishna85000 View PostI changed my engine oil from tvs synthetic oil to motul 7100 10w50 on recommendation of my friend who is using it.
