Hi, thanks for the heads up. I would to know what was the actual issue, if you can still remember. I am currently facing that issue though It didn't really affect the overall performance of the vehicle.

I called the SVC responsible today and explained that at idle while the engine is on, on bad road, there is a clicketis kind of sound like small pieces of metal inside a metal box. It can be quite embarrassing to drive such a price of art with such kind of sound that not even lower range vehicle in comparison produce.

Hello guys I have been a bit downhearted recently on account of my SR 150 race.

The exhaust note is anything but loud. It just sounds like a regular moped. There is no major performance impact as in am still able to reach decent speeds, but it takes a while and effort, which was like instantaneous in the past. I rode somewhere around 1300 km and done the first service.

Has anyone already come across a situation like this? It would be quite helpful as am planning to visit the SVC, but they don't seem to understand my plague. For them it's not an issue.

Anytime Bruh! The issue is a three fold one.
        1. Magwheel Cast: the inner drum which acts as an abrasive wall for the brakes are bored too wide, hence the brake pads tend to lie a bit loose and tap on the inner walls of the wheel. Another adjourning issue is the brake setup itself. The springs are a bit too big and allow too much free play inside the barrel (you could source an aftermarket set of springs) and hence the break setup knocks against the wall of the wheel shaft array. The same sound will be heard as a sharp metallic "tik" similar to that of a muffled bell, this is caused due to the hollow barrel acting as a bell.

        2. CVT Assembly: the roller weights given are bit on the heavier side, around 10 to 11 grams if not mistaken. Whereas the Variator which holds the roller weights have wide grooves and hence the roller weights just slide like no body's business. I think this has been rectified in the SR Race model. A fix would be to apply a thin paste of high temperature non melt grease which would reduce this free and unnecessary movement. CVT rollers should move only when called upon by centrifugal force. Another problem is the transmission bell/ drum which houses the clutch shoes against which a similar scenario to loose brakes appears. Loose springs cause knocking and hence the "tik tik" sound.

        3. Lose frame parts: culprits are loose swingarm bolt and suspension nuts. Get them tightened.

Exhaust sound takes over 3k KMS to reach a little base tone. Otherwise the SR series does have a moped-tractor lovechild silencer noise. So only a aftermarket exhaust would help you with the sound aspect of it.

Regarding performance, remember that the Race has a faster pickup and a slower top end. So you would expect a pull at higher speeds. Refer this post. Try comparing your race wih another in the same kilometers done. Get your carb and CVT checked if in doubt. Even a excessively tight brake setup could cause resistance to free wheel movement.

Thank you so much for trying to help me to understand the behaviour of my vehicle.

I visited the SVC here in Bangalore lalbagh and here is what I was told: each vehicle is build differently and I cannot make comparison with another one that shares the same properties. They said the way I ride it will determine its condition.
They said that the exhaust note is not something they can tune but just will work as it was designed. They also said that the tik tik sound is a normal sound that will be present in most of the SR 150 they have serviced so far.
They said the vehicle is fine and that it is more psychological, that is I need to just accept the fact there is nothing to be worried about.
They finally said that some tuning hardware, a racing kit will be introduced soon that should make the vehicle run quicker and more agile.

I have no practical mechanical knowledge but I know my vehicle and I can tell that something changed from what it was to what it is.

All the suggestions you made are on par with my expectations but the SVC guys are not really ready to go in deep to find out the root cause as they think there nothing wrong.

All in all, either I am mental and am doing too much, or they are having some resources limitations (time or knowledge)

I guess I will have to learn mechanics or just forget about it all...And live with my lack of knowledge and constant dissatisfaction...

Hi, I have seen some SVC guys here rolling the throttle while the rear breaks were applied, which is not advisable as per the manual.

To be honest I have the feeling that the SVC guys will be the first to ruin our vehicles because they are totally out of phase with the manual. What's the point at the end? We have a bunch of misinformed wackoes working on our rides.

Well, most SVC guys Piaggio takes are local mechanics upgraded from Hero or Honda. The training given to them is pretty limited too. They hardly use the torque wrenches and ratchets or appropriate tools. At one point I even saw the mechanics hammering the CVT casing with a metal hammer instead of plastic headed ones which we use to bend TMT bars. This can lead to cracks in the casing.

Even when it comes to dismantling the body panels, the wedge objects between the panel spaces to snap open ledges and grooves. More of often this leads to cracking of fibre parts and even ruining the wiring in the bargain and stripping screws.

What you could do is write a letter to Piaggio India and probably click some pics and send too of the mechanics misusing the scoot. That's what I did 😁, and so much that the SVC treats me like the CEO whenever I drop by 🤷🏻*♂️😛.

                Hey!

I got a call from vespa India yesterday. They called because I registered earlier for my current vehicle. Instead I asked it was ok to provide a feedback. When they were positive about it I then unfolded all my frustration and demise to them to the extent that they called me twice to gather more data.

They somehow had all my details and could relate the showroom where I purchased my ride. They said they would contact the service center and request them to take the required action to ensure my ultimate satisfaction.

                Let's see it unfolds

That's pretty good. Unless they receive feedback from us they can't really take any action. So pretty much becomes our responsibility to register complaints.

I finally got the side step installed on my SR after months of waiting. It seems the supply is low. It came in chrome finish like the Vespa ones with silver side step and god it looked ugly on the SR. So got it powder coated and now it blends in. The design is really good. Costed me about 1500 plus 350 for the powder coating. Hope it lasts. Wifey was very admant on installing it so I gave in. [emoji13]

The design is really good and doesn't look like an afterthought.

You surely did a great job with the painting of the side step. I saw the regular version of it on a sr150 and It was more like a letdown visually so I turned away from it. My wife is also asking for it but as of now I will do without it.

I would like to ask you a couple of questions though if you don't mind. How is the performance of the vehicle? How many km do you drive daily and what is your average speed, driving style? Are you satisfied with the quality of the maintenance provided by your SVC?

                      Thanks & regards

Its a city vehicle and performs brilliantly. Handling and pickup are great. You just have to keep an eye for potholes coz the stock tires give in being low profile. You can zip through traffic easily. The suspension was hard initially but either I got used to it or it softened.
You cannot carry much stuff but I feel whatever you can is the safe limit. I have seen people carrying a whole lot of stuff impairing handle and comfort.
Longest I have ridden is 200km with one break. I get around 35kmpl. Daily commutes are about 20-30km. I have other bikes too so I don't use it daily.
Brakes are good. Tires could be better. Wifey likes it apart from the carrying stuff things. Also she says it doesn't look girlish. I bought it for her but I use it more[emoji16]
One thing I dislike the most is that there is no place to lock a helmet. Some people say you can do it on the grab rails but I couldn't figure out a safe way. Rest you can read in the thread.

The SVCs are pathetic same as rest of the manufacturers. I would say dont leave your bike with them. Stay and keep an eye while they are working and make sure all the points given in the manual are followed.

Thank you so much for being as explicit as possible. I can relate to most of what you pictured here. I own an sr150 race and here is my story.

During the first ride, the first 5km I could hear the exhaust note, loud and defined. It was so loud that it marked it's presence wherever I was and the thing is...I didn't need to go fast to hear it...loud and exotic. Oh God I loved it. The engine was super smooth. The front fork was loose tough but I didn't mind it initially, until...

I ensured I listened to the engine on idle and while it's on the move, all the sounds distinctly so I can immediately spot an anomaly in the long run. I thoroughly read the manual and tried to resist the envy of pushing the vehicle to its limit though I could get there.

I would travel 50 to 60 km daily with an average speed of 60km. The dealer told me that it would be ok to go fast as long as mileage is not a matter of concern for me. Progressively though I could notice a change in the engine sound. The exhaust note became inconsistent as in, it would be loud for a 1meter stretch and then nothing. I was back to the activa era. The idling issues kicked in and I had to visit the SVC. They were kind enough to try fixing the issue with the front fork and the idling.

Since I drive a lot I reached 750km in a matter of a week and half. I took the vehicle for its first service and everything seemed okay except for...

Today I am plagued with a very annoying sound located at the rear side, eventually coming from the CVT box on the side. I just can't stand it and am taking all the steps toward having it to stop. The exhaust note has become a luxury. The beauty of my sr150 race was essentially carried out by its exhaust note. Am working toward that as well.

The guys at the SVC?...its just like you said. They are trying. But they are just not qualified enough to face all possible cases presented to them... especially mine. As I speak I am cursing myself for purchasing this vehicle. All the things that attracted me toward it are now history. Some fellow xbhpian helped me out with some solutions.

I really wished I could meet all the guys who own an sr150, meet them personally so I could interact with them and gather more data to figure for myself how to be happy again.

Its not that bad in my case. I haven't experienced a race model so can't comment on that. If the SVC guys are cooperating write a letter to Vespa india stating the situation. Not a complaint letter but to bring to attention the difficulties you are facing. Also dont be emotional in the letter. Firmly and politely put across your point. This should take care of the problem. One rider even got his engine replaced. So there is hope. In this era of mass production some people do end up with a lemon. Sad reality. So cheer up and fight for your ride. This is one damn good scooter.

                              Hi,
I am planning to buy my first vehicle ever and I was plannin on getting SR150. I am from bangalore, they say they wiill be opening a new Motoplex near where I stay in june, is there any benefit for waiting till then, as in any discounts. Or should I buy from other dealers?
The servicing can be done anywhere? As in once the new showroom open I can service there?
I have read the entire thread and reviews online and videos. I am in love with the scooter, but no one seems to like it here.
Is there anything I must know before I get this? As owners and experienced guys, do you have any advice to a newbie like me?

I am planning to buy my first vehicle ever and I was plannin on getting SR150. I am from bangalore, they say they wiill be opening a new Motoplex near where I stay in june, is there any benefit for waiting till then, as in any discounts. Or should I buy from other dealers?
The servicing can be done anywhere? As in once the new showroom open I can service there?
I have read the entire thread and reviews online and videos. I am in love with the scooter, but no one seems to like it here.
Is there anything I must know before I get this? As owners and experienced guys, do you have any advice to a newbie like me?

The bike is good for a newbie. Its better than many bikes out in the market. Everybody likes it here man. Problem sharing is not disliking its a discussion.

Motoplex booking: They r saying to wait only to increase their sale. paytm booking is good but if you go thru dealer they are a bit more responsive. Servicing can be done at any authorised Svc. Hope you get it soon. The indicator beep is irritating but its a personal choice. Price I can't comment but accessories are priced same as I was charged.
