Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
I have finally decided to buy a new bike/Upgrade from my RTR ABS 180 , US Tax Returns for the win
Was looking mainly for comfort - no vibes, not too dedicated - , touring abilities and safety.
Narrowed down to the R3, RR310 and Dominar (all ABS) .
I am still utterly confused. So to help with that, as a first step, have rented out a Dominar for next weekend, hope it goes well!
Main +/- for the options
1) Dominar - cost effective , powerful but Heavy, no fairing and vibrations apparently
2) RR310 - BMW engine!!, looks, power but a more dedicated position and waiting period of nearly 3 months
3) R3 - a twin, perfect entry into the superbike category and now ABS too but not the best frame and is MUCH costlier, does it make sense to go for this over a RR310?
This thread was of huge help when I wanted to buy the Domi last year, but the vibrations scared me off then.
Hoping it got fixed in the newer batches and 2018 update.
PS - will mostly go for the black , maybe glacier blue.#Shadowfax Apache RTR 180 ABS - 2014 - 2019

Vibrations will exist, it's a big single cylinder, can't help regarding that.Originally posted by Raman Swaminathan View PostI have finally decided to buy a new bike/Upgrade from my RTR ABS 180 , US Tax Returns for the win

Now if you can afford the 2018 R3 you should definitely buy that, the smoothness of twin cylinder engine cannot be compared with the other two whatsoever.
But if you strictly want to compare between Apache RR310 and the Dominar 400, ask yourself this, do you like heavy bikes and is pillion comfort is a must (if you want to take your mom on your bike) then go for Dominar 400, if not don't think twice to buy the apache RR310(coming from a dominar owner).
Dominar is a great bike, but apache is marginally better for everyday riding.Live free, Rev Hard.

R3 just seems much costlier (almost Domi + Apache in cost) for basically an USP of a twin cylinder.Originally posted by voodoodarkflare View PostVibrations will exist, it's a big single cylinder, can't help regarding that.

Pillion rides will be short and in-city. Can do even without it.
However, Highway rides are extremely important. Can I do that, for long distances, on the Apache, thats the 20% of a million rupee question#Shadowfax Apache RTR 180 ABS - 2014 - 2019

Yes you can do highway on both Rr310 and Dominar, both have engine vibrations keep this in mind. As these are big singles so no getting 150 or 250 or twin cylinder refinement level here. Dominar has 13ltr tank which gives 10 ltrs of useable rage after leaving 3 ltrs for fule pump and owners are using around 11ltrs without any trouble, highway mileage is around 36kmpl my personal if i keep it under 120kmph , city is 26kmpl.Originally posted by Raman Swaminathan View PostR3 just seems much costlier (almost Domi + Apache in cost) for basically an USP of a twin cylinder.

Now coming to rr310 it has 11 ltrs tank capacity means useable would be 8 or max 8.5ltrs after leaving minimum for fuel pump.
Have no words on highway fe of rr310 but city is 25kmpl as tested by few motovloggers.
Comfort wise a good friend who also have dominar stated that he finds rr310 to be slightly better then dominar in sitting poster.Seems like you left side or clutch lever is more downward angeled then the right break lever, check the angel of both then see.Originally posted by Santosh Vaza View PostGuys,
There is an uneven gap on both sides between tank and handle bar when turned right/left fully.
Does this look normal ?
uneven gap - amount of space between handle bar and tank not same on both sides

Rr sitting position is not good for long rides.. also being a sports bike there is no slipper clutch..Originally posted by Raman Swaminathan View PostI have finally decided to buy a new bike/Upgrade from my RTR ABS 180 , US Tax Returns for the win

Bike should be heavy in weight which keeps it stable like dominar.
If I choose rr I'll go for engine and looks.
If I choose domi (which I have already) stability, comfort , value for money.
R3 is out of league for me as price is high..

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Thanks for the information Ijs bro, but do Ceramic coating protect against minor scratches because usually in office/mall parking two wheeler are parked closely and many times there chances of other vehicle's brake/clutch lever getting rubbed against Dominar's tank which can cause scratch.Originally posted by Ijs View PostLook for bullu biker videos on YouTube he has provided one number the guys deliver pre cut ppf to home.3m doesn't provide warranty on ppf for motorcycles look elsewhere. Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
To be fair, sitting position for long rides is entirely dependent on the individual who rides, I have a minor lower back problem, which starts to ache badly if I sit upright and Dominar does give me bad lower back pains after riding for 60+ kms(not exaggerating) . I have ridden 200+ kms on a single go on my pulsar 220.Originally posted by Raman Swaminathan View PostR3 just seems much costlier (almost Domi + Apache in cost) for basically an USP of a twin cylinder.

That's why it is very important for you to take a test ride, if possible take an extensive test ride(where you can take the bike for more than 2-3 kms).
That being said, the apache RR 310 does not have a compromised sitting position like RC 390, it has a sports tourer sitting like the Ninja 300 and Yamaha R3.
It really shouldn't be a problem for you go for weekend long rides if you wish to buy the Apache.Live free, Rev Hard.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
I have done this coating for my car. It’s useless. Or may be the guy who has done it is not professional enough. I would recommend you to go with 3M ppf. However, if it works out be costlier replacing the new panel, then don’t do anything.Originally posted by anwaykale View PostThanks for the information Ijs bro, but do Ceramic coating protect against minor scratches because usually in office/mall parking two wheeler are parked closely and many times there chances of other vehicle's brake/clutch lever getting rubbed against Dominar's tank which can cause scratch.

Thanks, yes sure will check out the cost to apply PPF and actual cpst of the part may be that would be much more feasible.Originally posted by DigantRai View PostI have done this coating for my car. Who has ridden the most KM on their Dominar?
Just wondering what the current unofficial "record" is for a Dominar. I know bulubiker on youtube has 22 000km or so, but I'm wondering if any members here have clocked even more. I'm thinking of getting either a Dominar or a used Versys/Transalp (650). Given the cost and maintenance of the Dominar, I'm tempted to go for it if it can easily do 40 000km before needing a new piston/topend or other mechanical work. I currently own a Husqvarna 450 (2016) which costs a fortune in maintenance (oil changes every 500km, piston every 150-200 hours/6000km and so on) so not interested in a second high-maintenance machine. I also have a scooter (Honda Wave 110cc) as a daily rider, but I've been doing a lot of highway miles lately, and am interested in a proper road bike/adventure bike. The Dominar is available where I live and is attractively priced. WIth a few changes to allow for panniers and a windshield, I think it could do the job. I have 12 000km on my 110cc scooter in around 2 years of ownership. A friend of mine has over 40 000km and did nothing to it. They go on forever. I'm looking for the same type of bike, but with more guts for actual highway use.
So, do you guys think a Dominar can clock upwards of 50 000km? Does anyone have over 30 000km?
