    1. How do we know the abs on D400UG actually works (without considering the abs light turning off on starting to drive)? Is there a way it can be tested?
    2. The stock MRF do not seem to give any confidence either during slight cornering or on even on slight wet roads.
Is this only with me or it is like this only?
    1. If you want to test ABS working without actually crashing, go in a straight line with 40km/hr speed in an empty non-public road, stamp hard on the rear brake
    a) If the bike skids in a straight line with dark straight skid mark on the road with wheel locked then ABS is not working.
    b) If the bike locks up in pulses(ON-OFF) and if the skid mark is a dotted line then ABS is working fine.

    2. Stock MRF's are only good for straight line and very bad for wet road, the best is you to switch to better Metz, Michellen, Pirelli, Apollo tyres once stock one wears out.

      Engine Replacement !!

      • Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread

It's good of Bajaj to replace the entire engine for peanuts. Actions like these are what helps spread the word, this is where the rubber meets the road. Understanding the customer, no BS given, and he's lucky to have it replaced such that whereas in some parts of the country, people are sweating their arses off in an SVC to change a chain tensioner.

The difference is night and day in many parts of India, but, this guy should thank his, stars, forefathers and all in between for getting this fixed.

        Cheers!

Is it normal to have this brown coating on the front end of the exhaust pipe?

            Hello all,
I was getting my dominar ready for trip, so was connecting bolt charger to battery,
I connected the -ve first and then +ive, the one with red cover. However had sparks at +ive terminal, I had not noticed that the ignition was on. However I turned it off and connected the +ive first and then -ive and everything went well.
After I turned on the ignition the display showed some errors , I could not really read them as it was quite fast and the trip meter and clock had reset.

I this a normal behaviour that the reset happened.

Charger works fine, bike rides fine. But just asking for confirmation.

Nothing to worry. As long as that alphanumeric code doesn't repeat itself and you don't see the MIL lit upon every start you're fine.

It's normal. Nothing to worry per se, when the exhaust bend pipe is subjected to high temperatures eventually they change color. The same goes for matte, blacked or chrome exhausts, they all change color.

              Cheers!

May I ask what is MIL?

Malfunction Indicator Lamp. The orange engine light on your console. I'd recommend you go through the owners manual for more tips, it really helps to get to know the bike better.

                  Cheers!

My entire front exhaust looks like that, looks like rust but I don't think it is.

Any recommendations for tyres, the stock ones are horrible I feel like I'm about to slip and fall through even the lightest amount of dust/sand on the streets. Love the pirelli scorpion rally str but they are kind of expensive iv done 9.5k on stock and still looks good is it worth a upgrade now or should I wait up, will the pirellis make a substantial difference in stability and dynamics ? Please advice [emoji120]

Thanks for sharing. Good job by Bajaj and SVC.
Really must be a manufacturing defect on the UG model. Definitely the old engine will be scrutinized thoroughly by Bajaj to find the root cause.
Hope this is not wide spread to more bikes from that batch and limited to this one incident.

P.S. Good luck to the guy who now needs to start running behind RTO people to get the engine number changed in the RC card and in Insurance, that will be another uphill task!

If you are not into offroading, then you can try pirelli diable rosso 2 or apollo alpha h1. If you want dual purpose tyres, then try timsun ts697 or ts822.
