Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hello All,
Happy to be in xbhp and for me this is the first post regarding a motorcycle on xbhp or anywhere else.
Little bit of history here: Currently I own my dad's 2006 Super splendor (made it mine from 2011). It's been 12 long years and my usage is average as I have only clocked around 50k on odo till date, so far I have changed my chain sporket once and rear tyre twice and front tyre only once. So if you see the maintenance part that I have done so far will be of very less amount. <EOH>[emoji3]
I have always had an eye for new motorcycle launches but will never think of owing one until when FZ25 was launched. Now I eagerly wanted to upgrade to this machine with ABS.
So fellow FZ25 owners help me on deciding whether to buy the FZ25 considering following factors.
1. Maintenance and mileage. how much minimum you ppl spend on each paid services?
2. Read many posts earlier which read like forke bent, oil leakage, headlight issues extra and extra and some forums have even stated that recent yamaha products quality are not good considering FZ25 in point. Is this bike reliable? Can I trust and put my money on FZ25?
3. Are the paint quality in the frame good? Is it prone to rust quickly?
4. Here in bangalore I will have to shed out around 1.72 lakh on road price for ABS varient. Is this VFM machine? Am I making the right choice?
After all I am ready to pay and get the bike, but after the purchase niggles here and there are okey, but overall quality issue with motorcycle parts will be a worrysom later.
I had a friend who owned fzs 2013 (67k odo till date) and following was the conversation we had.
Me: Till now how much you have spent on maintenance?
Him: Haaaa machi, all my salary has gone for maintaining this bike alone! You know how much I have spent so far?
Me: How much?
Him: More than a lahk in 5 years!!
Me: shocked!! And thinking for FZS he has spent 1 lakh!!! - then for FZ25 how much I am gonna spend!
Him: Now I have a due to change the clutch plate in next service!!!
Me: oh gosh!!
Guys in my super splendor, I have never replaced fork oil or any engine related parts so far. I have ripped my bike to its maximum limits on many occasions and the bike had never given up on me.
Just tell me guys, is this a reliable bike? Are the parts quality good?
Mostly my usage will be of only office commute 20 km a day. And occasional weekend rides and once in a year touring

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi in my use the bike has been reliable. One thing is it's less expensive compared to other 250s to maintain. But any day a unicorn or splendor will be cheaper to maintain. Depends on what you want. It has a different maintainance schedule from a 150cc bike. Tires will last around 20 to 25k in city use. Fork needs oil change every 10k. But on a 150 it will last much much longer and cost less. So see your usage carefully and buy. This was not clear to me when I bought as I didn't have experience with bigger bikes than 150cc. I would buy this bike again as am happy with it.Originally posted by Coolmuthu7 View Post2. Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi, I am facing a sticky throttle issue. It doesn't come up during riding though, and noticed the bike has it just now, when I was cleaning and lubing my chain.
How serious is it?. I took it out for a spin after lubing and it doesn't show up during riding, maybe because I rotate the accelerator back when braking.
The nearby service center won't take or even look at the bike now, because saturdays they will be filled by the time its 9 or 9.30.
If only the cable needs adjustment, maybe I could take it there, but last time had a bad experience, with them telling me to come on Monday and they can't even look at the bike.
If it needs a replacement, Can I continue till next weekend or is it an Urgent matter?.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Muthu,
Welcome to XBHP, will try to reply to your queries in point wise manner. my bike is approx 1 year OLD with 4k in ODO.
1. Maintenance & Mileage: for first three free services it should amount to 900 after that it should go to 1500 to 2000. i feel the maintenance cost is not that much. Fuel efficiency for this bike is plus point as i get around 35-38 in city traffic.
2. Reliability :i feel the bike is reliable, no fork bent or oil leakage in my bike, however headlight is below average as illumination is very bad and it shakes a lot. the quality of bike is average. the same is quality is offered by other manufacturers due to cost cutting. (the actual cost of bike is less than a lakh other costs are various taxes , insurance etc.)
3. paint quality of frame is ok, rusting issue is noted in silencer.
4. point no. 4 is very subjective and varies from person to person. i feel its is VFM. (i got it for 1.39)
the one issue i dont like about Fz25 is gear shifting, its very harsh and robs riding pleasure on a daily basis. further the small niggles reported in early variants must have been taken care by yamaha in latest (ABS) version.
Hope this helps.

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi if it's sticking in open position then that's dangerous. Guess it's less of a problem sticking in closed. On YouTube, Life of Pal has a nice video about lubing the throttle assembly on top. If it resolves with that, that's good. If not then warrants a trip to service center.Originally posted by Joe29 View PostHi, I am facing a sticky throttle issue. Changing control cables once a year proactively is a good practice, prevents cables from snapping/sticking.Originally posted by Joe29 View PostHi, I am facing a sticky throttle issue. In this case honda throttle cables are very good, completed 6 years on my super splendor, still throttle actions feels as new, smooth and crisp [emoji7][emoji8]Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostChanging control cables once a year proactively is a good practice, prevents cables from snapping/sticking.

Depends on use.Originally posted by #bpk View PostIn this case honda throttle cables are very good, completed 6 years on my super splendor, still throttle actions feels as new, smooth and crisp [emoji7][emoji8]
Cables are changed proactively as it is the recommended action rather than lubing, because modern cables come with an anti-friction coating and once it shows signs of wear its better to change than service.
Better spend 100/- proactively than have the cable snap when you're 200 km's from home and another 500 km's to reach your destination. The story ended with me riding 300 km's without the clutch before spotting a SVC.
