Yup, I've seen one in Bangalore too. Sadly, these were never intended to be sold to individuals in India. These are Test Ride bikes which showrooms sometimes give away.

      Hi Folks,

One of my friends has booked Duke 390 2017 in Bangalore.
Today when he contacted dealer to know about delivery, he was told by dealer that new software update has messed up the settings and in turn is causing issues with electrical.
And, KTM are working on this glitch and expected time to fix is around 10 days. Is this true? Has anyone experiencing issues with bike after software updates?

Excellent find, sriathiyan. Actually, I guess it "might" be related to stator coil upgradation. From what I can see, this must be revised stator wire routing. If you see the back side of the old stator cover you will see that trapezoidal kinda protrusion in the earlier modes used to have the stator wire exit point and routed towards the exit at at the top of the cover.

Perhaps KTM has worked on the stator issues and they've I guess, moved the winding exit to clockwise to 3 o'clock in the new ones from the 6 o'clock position in the old ones.

          Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
          The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

          THE END

The starter motor too now gets a metal cover over it.

Yes, chip that's already been mentioned, perhaps to protect the starter motor wiring setup from water/heat and what not, it's an aluminum and or steel plate screwed in.

              Cheers!

Its a firmware. You have to go to KTM ASC for the upgrade.

I was wondering this display issue is more evident and how come they missed in test mule.

Is it so?then fine....but still wondering why people were discussing about replacing the TFT itself under warranty.. is it for S/W issue or H/W?

the first thing a svc does is replace parts (without trying to identify the cause of failure).
another thing is maybe the 'new' tft already comes with upgraded firmware.. but again the svc as usual will have no proper information on such things and they blindly follow what their service advisor, regional service head or ktm advices them to do. this is probably what happened in the initial days.
now the folks at ktm seem to have understood/found the cause of these errors and have issued some software update. hopefuls that fixes the errors.
owners, please share your observations.. @chip94 , any update from your end on the console fix ?

Thanks Bro .. that explains everything...

One small update for current and future Duke 390 owners..

KTM showroom manager answered few of my questions regarding the software updates..

then i asked my favourite question "Will the DUKE 390 get Traction Control and Cruise Control as all the much required Ride by wire and sensors like wheel spin sensor, abs sensors are present already" then he added extra masala and gave me the answer..

                          1. Traction control is for sure on the way.. it will be just an software update(ECU+TFT)..
                          2. Cruise Control will also be given as software update .. ECU+TFT
                          3. This is the extra masala( GPS map.. he said..KTM team is working on whether to use mobile GPS and sync it with the TFT/ Add small GPS device to bike and get the feature)

He said everything will be at no extra cost except small price could be charged for GPS device..

All will be carried out when dedicated team visit every showroom or in future.. it will be done when we do our bike service..

Hope his words to be true..

KTM managers masalas are always to be taken with a pinch of salt. Though the third point is a welcome addition. I don't think cruise control and traction control are a mere software updates. The ECU parameters and the TFT display needs need to be equally flashed. And I thin traction control just can't be done with a software map, hardware at the ECU pump too needs changed, addition of solenoids.

                            Cheers!

                              Hi sid,

The reason I and a few other folks got their TFT's changed is because we were unsure of the problem at the start. Now, it's been confirmed that it's all software. KTM is running version 39 now which has partially solved the LED Headlamp issue (still happens to some people). The TFT still restarts only if its been connected to BT. According to them, lots of updates in the pipeline.

Cruise Control as well as Traction Control is coming soon. GPS on the console needs some sort of authorization which they are awaiting.

Also, one thing I noticed about the LCD is that the panel is of very very cheap quality. It suffers badly from image retention during the nights when the dark theme is on. All TFT's I've seen on the 390's do this to some extent.
