I have seen a couple of the 250s, but not too many of the new 390s....

The RC itself is pretty rare to see provided they launched in 2014, but still.. 3 years & RC is still a rare sight...
Probably due to the bump in price and also that supply/deliveries haven't been in full swing. It has nothing to do with whatever BS am sure a majority of folks did not know what is a BS rating until the recent fiasco
Remember bro, we are a very cost conscious market and not many people have the kind of money to spend on.. the earlier 390 was at the edge of affordability for a certain category of people and was indeed very vfm. the bump in the prices without any significant improvement in performance might have pushed folks back to fall on the 250 which falls slightly cheaper than the erstwhile 390.
Bottom line, the market (As in people) has only eased up to spending around 2 lakh on a bike, so anything significantly more and you have second thoughts and switching to lower priced models.

    • ISSUES AND SPARES FOR 2017 Duke 390

      Hello Fellow Dukers,

Greeting from fellow biker...I currently rider a NS 200 however i ma strongly considering the 2017 Duke 390 as my 2nd Bike.

BUT...here are few thing which are stopping me to take the plunge right now

This video is about the problems faced by Duke 390 2017 model owners across India till date. Real owners real problems.

Also i checked with Khivraj at Kasturba Road who does not have most of the spares for the new 2017 plus i am also sharing the costing of spares which is reasonable compared to the competition

      Ride HARD but Ride SAFE
      Cheers !!

Javed.. Just 2 days back i purchased the vehicle.. vehicle is having no issues at all.. no welding problems and no stalling or no mechanical problem..

bike is lot smoother and well refined.. gears are perfect.. slot in smoothly... ride by wire is awesome too

Software Issue are fixable and updates are already on the way.. dedicated team visiting every KTM showroom in bangalore. you can visit any one and get your s/w updated..

My suggestion is "Go for it Bro" while you can. Its worth every penny, provided you have enough money and minset/interest/passion(call whatever you want) to buy.

Note: GST may increase/decrease the price of vehicles.. but read in many news papers that 350cc and above attract 28+3 % tax.. which is highest..so most likely it will increase.. May be other guys who know more about tax can give inputs..

i feel launching 250 was a mistake on ktms part. there is huge difference between 250 and 390 in both performance and equipment but price difference is as if 390 only has equipment.

          considering etra stuff 390 has:

          abs
          matzelers
          lcd dash
          led headlight.

add up price of all these you will get price difference between 250 and 390. i wish ktm had launched 390 variant without lcd dash, led lights, painted it black and white instead of orange and priced it 20k cheaper. and skipped 250 altogether. current 390 couldve been launched as r varient an is norm in international market with all bells and whistles.

ktm has lost a potential customer in me. i was interested in 390 but wont but with such a flashy dashboard. unprotected it will definitely get stolen. i could get 250 but current market is not favourable for that bike with fz 25 and dominar. its a great bike i think but mentally its a hard decision to make for me. if i spend that much more atleast some extra engine power should be offered.

i waited wrongly for new duke 390. i think i shouldve gone for older gen model.

I had the older model and have now upgraded to the new one. The new one is leaps and bounds ahead of the old one in everything! Right from the brakes to the seat to the dash. That itself justifies the price hike. Coming to the dash, I've seen the mounting bracket and its not going to be easy to rip it off.

Thing is,KTM has positioned the 390 as a premium offering now, no longer is it a VFM proposition after the price hike. The only reason they got in the 250 was to fill the gap between the 390 and 200.

Getting the 390 in a bare bones version alongside the TFT one will never happen because thats why the 250 is there. And to be honest, I think the 250 is crap.

I personally suggest you wait and pick up a used 17 390 down the line if you can't get one right now.

tft dash is my only concern. price ultimately doesnt matter much cause it will be financed. few 100 rs a month is not much of a difference.

Totally agree with you.. if the BMW g310r is released at anywhere near to d250 price then gone case..saying this as in other countries 310 is 40k cheaper than 390.. and main problem is d250 with it's increase in weight compared to d200 isn't that much quicker than d200 hence not vfm. Considering all this cancelled the d250 and collecting funds for d390[emoji13]

THANKS for the quick response Bro !

However I suggest you spend some more time with this bike..i guess it is little too early to judge specially in your case with just 2 days.
2017 KTM 390 is a great package and VFM hands down but any new products takes it time to stabilize so that is my only concern !
Anyways congratulation on your new ORANGE beast..Enjoy the RIDE !

to be fair duke 250 is actually very good bike.

its just that in current market its a hard sell.

pay 50 k more and you get so much more power and equipment.

or else pay 50 k less and get same power and yamaha reliability. handling duke is better but fz solid too.

or else pay 15 k less and get more power and abs in dominar. again duke better handler but dominar good too.

Thanks and Agree with your point Bro.. but what i tried to tell you is,

There is nothing to judge .. The engine is basically same as the old one..that's what i meant.. there is no problem in engine as nothing much is changed inside engine..most of the problems are already fixed..

From the 4 years experience KTM had in previous gen Duke's.. 2016 duke 390 engine was already a gem.

I can tell you this as i owned 2016 duke 390 for a year .. there was no single problem in my bike except vibrations.

Now its even better with smoother engine and better fueling .. s/w and TFT issue are less of a concern

even if the problem comes , it will be mostly in external components like LCD/Ride by wire/LED lights.. so it would be mostly Software updates or replace those components under warranty.. it wont affect the bike much as the engine is clean and almost perfect.

my points were to make you feel better and help you in making right decision which i feel is right..as you mentioned some points stopping you from buying the bike.

I may have the 2017 D390 for just 2 days but my points to you were based on the initial impression of new Duke and 1 year ownership of 2016 Duke..

I guess I am eligible person to give you the suggestion.. as I owned 2016 D390(1 year) and graduated from 200NS(2 years) and pulsar 150(which i still use it in my home town from many years).. it looks like you and i were going through same feel when considering Duke .. that's the reason i replied to your query bro..

                      Sorry for such large post

This was intended by KTM. Because of the shitty compatibility of Android Phones, KTM is releasing an app for Android Phones. iOS and Windows connect normally. I'm on v39 and my BT works fine.

Has anyone done this yet ? More Efficient cooling system

To improve the efficiency of cooling down the Duke 390, a high performance Dual radiator fan is installed, most of the hot air is now going sideways instead ...

Thanks to GST, soon the price difference between the two will increase a bit, and i feel 250 still a good option. It offers what FZ25 didnt and it dont offer what 390 did ( keeping Dominar out of the equation since its more of a tourer )

250 is perfect bike on paper. but actually putting my hard earned money down, i am finding it difficult to do so. with 390 i have no such problems. if ktm offered 390 with old gen screen even at same price i would buy without hesitation.

for 250, i have 3 bikes ahead of that one in my list as i said before. for fz vs 250, i think 250 offers harder chassis so front end feedback is better. and build quality is better cause its a premium bike. other than that fz handles well too, if you ride it like a street figher ie nail the front end and slide rear. rear tire gives ample feedback.

if no compromise handling bottomless is all you seek then rc series also becomes contender which i havent considered. duke series ultimately reaches its limit cause seating posture.
